Visions and Godfathers
Karina's POV
"How'd your exam go?" I ask Blaise as he steps down from the ladder.
"Rubbish, couldn't see a thing, so I made some stuff up. Don't think she was convinced, though...."
"Meet you in the common room," I mutter as Professor Trelawney's voice called, "Karina Grey."
The tower room was hotter than ever before; the curtains were closed, the fire was alight, and the usual sickly scent made me cough as I stumble through the clutter of chairs and table to where Professor Trelawney sat waiting before a large crystal ball.
"Good day, my dear," she said softly. "If you would kindly gaze into the Orb.... Take your time, now... then tell me what you see within it...."
I bend over the crystal ball and stare, stare as hard as I can, hoping for it to some me something other than swirling white fog, but nothing happened.
"Well?" Professor Trelawney prompted delicately. "What do you see?"
The heat was overpowering, and my nostrils were stinging with the perfumed smoke wafting from the fire beside us.Β Looking once more, I see three figures.
"I see three figures... I think."
"What do they resemble?" whispered Professor Trelawney. "Think, now..."
Staring at the crystal ball the figures form into body, "They're bodies. Three people."
"Indeed!" whispered Professor Trelawney, scribbling keenly on the parchment perched upon her knees. "My dear what are the figures doing specifically. Look closely."
"Um one is on it's knees just there. The other two seem to be hurrying off somewhere. The first taller figure stops and the smaller figure follows closely behind. It seems--"
"Go on my dear."
"I-it seems a-as if the figures are fighting... verbally... mentally... emotionally."
"Mmm yes my dear child. I am sorry to say this is to come soon. You do not know what it means right now, but you will. Just know don't give up my dear."
"Give up? Why would I give up? I don't understand-"
"Shh trust your gut my dear. You know- you feel everything before it happens. Use that for your good. Change the future. Well, dear, I think we'll leave it there. You are definitely a seer, remember what I told you."
Relieved, I get up, pick up my bags and head out the room.
............................................................................................................................................................................
I finally catch up with Daphne and Pansy and we go to the room to talk.
"She said that?" Pansy asks while filing her nails.
"I wonder what that could mean." Daphne says as she paints her toes.
"I know... me and Draco are going to have a fight. A big one. I just don't know what I did yet."
Pansy and Daphne both look up at me with worry but don't say anything.

Karina's POV
"Wake up... Karina..."
Sitting up quickly, I realize I had been asleep on the desk of the Potions room in the dungeon. Glancing up I see Professor Snape looking at me somewhat worried.
"Sorry Professor...I'll leave now."
I quickly gather my things and stand up to leave, but am stopped by a hand on my shoulder.
"Have you been sleeping Miss Grey? You look rather ill."
Frowning slightly wondering why Professor Snape cared, I shift all my weight to one leg and sigh, "Not really. I have been having many different nightmares over the past month and sometimes they feel so real that I'm scared to close my eyes..."
I don't know why I'm telling him this. I guess I just feel like he cares. Not sure why though.
"Come with me."
He turns around quickly and walks to his supply closet that contains many different potions and things as the such. I stand by the door and wait as he climbs up the ladder and grabs a small purple vile.
"This is a potion for dreamless sleep. It is rather very common to the sleeping draught except it doesn't exactly help you sleep it just takes the dreams or rather nightmares away. Take no more than a drop."
I grab the vile and look at it then look back at him, "Thank you..."
He nods then walks back to his desk. As he sits, I turn to head out the door then stop and march back up to his desk.
"Professor...why are you helping me? Why are you being so nice to me?"
"Would you rather I treat you as Potter and his friends?" Professor Snape scoffs as he marks papers with red ink.
"No I-I just... Were you friends with my mother?"
This one question must have stunned him really bad because he dropped the quill in his hand then quickly stood up.
"Why do you ask?" He paces back and forth behind the desk seeming nervous.
"I just... when I was younger I was snooping around my Gram's house and I found a photo album. I saw many pictures of you and my mother. Some were the two of you at Hogwarts but others were not. So I was just curious."
Professor Snape clears his throat as he walks over to the big framed painting behind his desk, "Hmm well yes. I was friends with your mother. She was my only friend when we both started coming here. Even when she started to gain popularity she still stood by my side. I loved your mother... it felt as if she was my little sister."
Snape moves back to his desk then opens the locked bottom drawer and pulls out a letter. The letter is so crumbled and old I'm surprised it is still intact.
"Here read it..."
I slowly take the letter from his hand and lean back against the table behind me.
Dear Severus,
If you are reading this then I have died. It feels so weird to be written this and knowing that I am to- actually die soon. The Dark Lord has given me and Avalon a final mission. We are to kidnap Harry Potter from Lily and James then bring the child to him. If we are to complete the mission then we are free and we can live out the rest of our lives with our child...
Yes I have a child. I know it has been a while since we talked. I'm sorry about Lily choosing James. I do wish you the best. Maybe try to find someone else, how about the Ravenclaw that you told Avalon and I about plenty of times... I don't want you to wither away without knowing love. I want you to stop being angry...with James, with Lily, with the world, with yourself. You are an amazing person and I'm glad to call you my friend... even though you feel as though you are family.
Severus I have one dying wish. I hope that you can seek this wish... if so I am happy and satisfied even though I can't be there to watch my child grow into a young lady. Severus I ask that you please watch out for my daughter, Karina Lily Grey. I named after Lily because this was your first love, the first person to show you that many care about you, to save you and I'm just so thankful she has... if she hadn't you wouldn't be here right now. We would've never been friends and grown so close.
Severus Snape I love you. Please take the responsibility of becoming Karina's Godfather. Please look after her when she goes to Hogwarts. I know you and Narcissa will do the very best you can and I am so very grateful for my two best friends. Thank you so much for coming into my life.
Please let Karina know that I am not angry with Lily and James. If anyone were to try what Avalon and I are with her then we would do the exact same. I know that after I write this letter I will not come back. Do not let Karina go through life wanting revenge. I want her to be honest, and caring, and the smart girl I know she will be. I hope that the Dark Lord is to keep his promise and stay away from her but I have a gut feeling that he will not. So please Severus just guide her, care for her, love her as the Godfather I know you can be.
I will miss you. Love you always
Love
Sally Grey
Looking up from the letter with teary eyes, I see Severus Snape looking at me with an emotion I can't quite seem to catch.
"So you are my... Godfather?"
He nods but stays silent.
"Wow no wonder you are my favorite teacher."
I quickly pull him into a hug and feel him freeze and tense up, "It's a hug it won't kill you."
Slowly he hugs back for a second then pulls away. I know he is awkward because he hasn't really had this recently. I wonder how he is okay. All the loss he has gone through.
"Can you tell me about my parents?"
I ask while twisting my hands together nervously.
He clears his throat and nods then moves to sit behind his desk in the chair. I follow and sit at a stool at the first table.
The rest of the after I spend listening to all the stories Severus Snape, my Godfather, tells me about my parents.
