Draco Malfoy's POV

Walking through the empty courtyard, I look around for a figure of some sort. A person. As I get closer to the big tree by the lake, I see the one person that I had been searching for.

"What are you doing here? It's late."

Karina turns around at the sound of my voice with a startled look on her face. Once she notices that it is me, she smiles lightly then turns back to look at the dark water.

"Not sleepy."

I sit down beside her and stare at the reflection of the moon. It had been midnight and it was chilly outside. Something was bothering her.

"Okay well neither am I. I guess I will keep you company until you get tired."

Karina frowns slightly but she doesn't look over at me. I frown also.

Why am I being so nice? Why was I looking for her?

Because you love her.

Oh shut up.

You do. That's why you went to her room to check on her but Pansy told you she hadn't been in her room since dinner. Then you walked around the entire school searching for her.

I hate you.

Don't be mad at me. They're your feelings.

Sighing I rub the temple of my forehead. Karina glances sideways and looks at me from the corner of her eye before looking back straight.

"You don't have to stay Malfoy. I'm a big girl I can handle myself."

"I know. Believe me I know. It just makes me feel better."

I watch her face fill with confusion then her cheeks begin to heat up and blush starts to form.

"Why?"

Freezing from that one question I try to think of anything to tell her. I think of telling a lie. A joke. Anything. But then I realize that if I say the wrong thing I may lose her for good. Whether a friend or more than a friend, anything was better than not having her in my life at all.

"Because... I still care about you."

Good word choice.

Thank you.

Karina finally turns to look me in the eyes. Her body is facing me as well as her legs which were criss crossed. She takes a deep breathe while rubbing her hands together.

"I... care for you too."

I follow in suit and turn my body towards her. Instead of crossing my legs I open my legs out so she is sitting in between them.

"Karina as much as we both hate to admit it... we need each other. Whether that's as friends or acquaintances."

Karina looks down at her lap. She doesn't think I notice but I watch the tiniest tear fall down her face into the grass. She sniffles and then sighs.

"I... a-agree."

Frowning, I can't help myself as my body goes on auto pilot. My right hand reaches towards her face as my left hand makes its way to hers. She flinches slightly as my hand grazes her cheek. After a moment, she leans into my touch and holds my hand with hers.

"Karina are you okay?"

"I don't know anymore."

"Well that's okay. We can figure it out together."

"Malfoy you don't have to help me-"

"I want to."

As I lean close to her she freezes in an instant. I lightly kiss her forehead then pull back my hand from her cheek. Without another word, I move away and stand up. Karina still sits like a statue as she holds her cheek with a blank face. Inwardly sighing I decide to leave her to herself.

Turning to walk away, I'm stopped by Karina calling my name.

"Draco..."

An arm holds onto my wrist making me spin around. Her arms instantly wrap around my neck and her head lays against my chest.

"Thank you..."

As she goes to move away, I quickly wrap one arm around her waist and my other arm around her neck, holding onto her head lightly with my hand. Her hands rub up and down my back making me sigh. We haven't been as close are we are now in too long.

"Of course."

"I miss you..."

"I'm not going anywhere."

Karina's POV

Lying in my bed I stare up at the ceiling and think about my talk with Draco. It was short but needed. I love Draco with all my heart. I wish we could be back together but it seems like right now we just need to work towards being friends again.

To be completely honest anything is better than nothing. And right now I need him more than ever. I've been having more nightmares about my grandma and Cedric. Professor Moody being here and talking about curses has clicked something in my brain and now I'm just having nightmare after nightmare.

To make things worse, Professor Moody is doing a lesson on the Imperious curse. Not only that but he's demonstrating on us. He said it was to see the curses power and see whether we could resist its effects or not. I think it's just because he's a mean ole git.

"Ready for class?"

I look over and see Pansy standing by her bed holding her books.

"Ready as I'll ever be."

Sorry I know this chapter is short but this is only Part 1 of Control and Dreams. Next part you are in for a whirlwind of emotions!! Get ready to probably cry, maybe laugh, but definitely scream at your phone.
