8. Like or like like?

Lily's POV

The next morning, I dashed into the 7th year girls' dormitory faster than you could say Quidditch. It was deserted save for one person. Marlene was still sleeping, and I was sure she would skive off the first lesson. I gently shook her four to five times, but she was still as a rock.

"You leave me no choice then." I murmured. I took out my wand and pointed it at her.

"Aguamenti," I whispered, and a jet of water hit her in the face. She scrambled into an upright position, seething like an angry cat.

"Okay, okay! I'm sorry!" I apologized, barely containing my laughter.

"LILY MARIE EVANS, IF YOU DON'T HAVE SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO TELL YOU BETTER RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!" She shrieked, attempting to unscramble from her cocoon of blankets.

"I do have something important to tell you, or I wouldn't dare to wake you up," I said, sitting down on the edge of her bed.

"Start talking," she prompted, folding her arms beneath her head and laying down yet again. I cast 'Muffliato' around the bed before taking in a deep breath.

"You have known James since you were little, right?" I asked nervously, and she nodded, not sure where I was going.

"Okay, sooooo, I think I like James," I said nervously.

"I know that." She said casually. My eyes widened.

"You do?" I asked, terrified.

"Of course I do," She said matter-of-factly. As the realization suddenly hit her, she bolted upwards, and her eyes widened in shock. "You mean like or like like? She said, making air quotes.

I sighed nervously. "Like like," I affirmed.

She squealed in delight and hugged me tightly.

"When did this happen, Lily?" She asked excitedly.

"I'm not sure," I replied bluntly.

"It doesn't matter. You two can finally be together, and I can finally win my 4 Galleons back from Alice and Mary." She said as she clapped her hands like a child.

"No, we can't just be together, Marlene! And have you been betting on us?" I asked her with raised eyebrows. She furrowed her brows in question.

"What do you mean? You like James, and he likes you! It's as simple as that! At least consider it, please." She said and pulled her best puppy-dog expression on.

"Okay, fine." I accepted. She beamed.

"You can't tell anyone about this. Please, I trust you." I pleaded.

"I won't." She promised. She changed into her uniform, and we headed for the Great Hall for breakfast, our conversation clouding my thoughts.

After our classes were over for the day, I returned to my dormitory. As I had already completed my homework in my free period, I had nothing to do. Finally, I decided to read a muggle novel. I picked Little Women, nestled myself in my cozy blankets, and read it for Merlin knows how much time. I checked the clock. I headed to the Great Hall for dinner. I was halfway through my delicious, mouth-watering red velvet cake when the Hall was swallowed by darkness.....

I hope you guys are doing well. This coronavirus is deadly and dangerous, so please stay safe and stay home. If you ever want to talk about anything to help your mental health, I'm always open.
