7. Totally goin' crazy

Lily's POV

The next week passed by uneventfully, and the only brand news was that the teachers were trying to kill us by the homework they were giving us. I was in the Heads' dormitory, doing a tough Transfiguration essay when he entered. He sat down across me, observing me work. I sighed frustratedly and moved a hand through my hair. He's rubbing it off on me, I thought.

"What's up?" James asked, sensing my mood.

"Transfiguration! I don't get it!"

I said.

"Well, I can help you if you want," he offered, smiling. I scoffed in disbelief.

"I am the best in class! If you don't believe me, ask Minnie," he said. I sighed.

"Fine, can you help me?" I asked, hopefully.

"Ahem."

"Please?" I grimaced.

"Sure, let's get started. Just let me grab my essay."

He went up to his dormitory and returned with his schoolbag.

"So, what are you having trouble with?"

"Everything," I said blankly. He laughed, filling my ears with an angelic sound-

"Get a hold of yourself, Lily. You can't be falling for him. He treated you like a plaything for years." A voice said in my head.

"But he has changed considerably." Another voice debated.

I was trying to focus on my battling thoughts when I felt a pair of fingers snapping in front of me.

"Earth to Evans?" James asked, concerned. I forced a smile and replied, "Ya, sorry, blanked out for a second. Let's start."

As he leaned closer to look at the parchment, my breath hitched in my throat. Our noses were almost touching. I felt butterflies in the pit of my stomach. I never felt butterflies. As he leaned even closer, I backed away and gave a slight cough. He shook his head and started to explain the topic, but I didn't comprehend a word. All I could concentrate on was the butterflies I had felt. I was falling for James freakin' Potter.

James' POV

I leaned in deliberately. Our noses were almost touching. I felt nervous, wondering whether she would slap me or curse me into oblivion. Her breath hitched in her throat. I leaned in even closer, but she backed away and cleared her throat. I slightly shook my head to forget about those gorgeous emeralds Lily called eyes. I started to explain the damn topic, but I don't think she listened to a word. The atmosphere remained uncomfortable after that. When the clock chimed nine, she claimed she was tired and retreated to her dormitory. I sighed. I blew it big time.

Lily's POV

I was falling for James freakin' Potter.

I couldn't believe it. I was falling for the one person that tormented my ex-best friend and me for more than five years!

I returned to my dormitory, deep in thought. After a while, I concluded that I would take Marlene's advice. I'd ask her hypothetically, of course. Otherwise, I would never hear the end of it. I decide to ask her the next morning since she'd probably be in some broom closet with some poor boy right now. I changed my clothes, brushed my teeth, and got into bed. The last thought in my mind before I slept was that I was totally goin' crazy.
