6. Quidditch
James' POV
It was Saturday. I walked down to the Great Hall with my broom to grab a bite before the trials. The students were helping themselves to the buttered buns, toast, pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, coffee, and pumpkin juice in front of them while chatting merrily. I sat down and put some toast and buns on my plate with a goblet of pumpkin juice at the Gryffindor table. I walked down to the pitch after eating and mounted my broom, practicing before anyone arrived. I kicked off the ground, flying around the pitch. I landed softly as the stands started to get crowded. Once everyone had settled down, I pointed my wand at my throat and muttered 'Sonorus.' I saw a blur of red hair in the stands.
"Hello, everyone. First, all the non-Gryffindors here who have come to participate in the trials, please leave." Half the stands stood up and left. "Second, according to the position you want to try out for, you will be divided into groups. Beaters, come forward."
A quarter of the people in the stands came forwards. I divided them into groups and told them to take laps around the pitch. Then they had to defeat the Bludgers that I sent at them. Sirius and Marlene McKinnon were the final Beaters. Everyone cheered for them. After a while, it was the Chasers' turn. Amelia Johnson and Frank Longbottom were the final Chasers along with me. The only person perfect for playing Keeper was Hestia Jones. As for Seeker, no one was fitting. A bunch of first-years had done terrible, and a fifth-year who couldn't catch the snitch even after a good thirty minutes. After a while, a nervous sixth-year, Emmeline Vance, stepped forward to try out. She was faster than a bullet and caught the snitch in less than a minute. I beamed at my team. I filled them in on the practice schedule and ended the trials. Lily, Mary, and Alice ran onto the pitch and flung their arms around Marlene McKinnon's neck. I changed my robes in the locker room and walked back to the Great Hall, deep in thought about a certain red-head. I plopped down at the Gryffindor table next to Sirius, who was still in his sweaty and muddy robes.ย
"Hey, Padfoot. Stop eating like a dog!" I exclaimed, nudging him. He shook his head to spray sweat at me. I laughed at his silliness and filled my plate with bacon and steak, beef casserole, and lamb chops. We went back to the common room and lazed there for the rest of the day before going to bed.
