3. Feels like home...

Lily's POV

I was finally home.

We were just in time to catch the last carriage. Ali had already gone with Frank, her boyfriend. Unfortunately, our arch-enemy was, too.

"Swift." Marls spat out through gritted teeth. I crossed my arms and narrowed my eyes at Selena Swift and her crony, Hailee Sloan. Me, Marls, Ali, and Mary shared a dormitory with them. They were smirking and whispering in hushed tones to each other.

Selena had long, shiny, chestnut hair and eyes the same shade. Her complexion was olive-toned and faultlessly smooth. A Gryffindor seventh year of moderate talent and average grades, Selena Swift, nonetheless projected an air of perfection. She had delicate hands, thick black eyelashes, an elegant nose, and a willowy build. Selena's voice was soft and melodious. She could make the most mundane piece of information sound positively thrilling-especially if the audience happened to be male. She was a slut and took pride in it. Also, she was our dorm-mate. Hailee was a less pretty model of Selena. She was also our dorm-mate. Both of them were best friends.

"What do you want, Swift?" Mary asked bitterly. Swift smirked.

"Well, there's only one carriage, so I suppose we'll have to share."

"Ugh, there's no way in heck I am going with her." Mary jerked her thumb at a smirking Swift. I sighed.

"We have to, it's the only option," I told her unhappily.

Me, Marls, and Mary stepped on the carriage. Swift and Sloan followed. As the carriage pulled away, I got lost in my thoughts of the interaction between Pot-James and me. The carriage pulled to a stop. We climbed down and looked up in awe at the ceiling of the Great Hall. Millions of stars were blinking at us from the inky black sky. It was breathtakingly stunning. We sat down at the Gryffindor table, chatting with each other. A few moments later, Professor McGonnagall came in with the Sorting Hat. The first years shuffled in slowly, glancing around the room nervously. The Sorting Hat sang a song and The Great Hall burst into applause as the sorting began. Abbott, Hestia became a Hufflepuff as I drifted off into a nap. I only woke up when someone's fingers snapped in front of my face. I jerked up and yelled, "What?" The Gryffindors around me chuckled as I sat back down, crossing my arms and scowling. They quietened down as Dumbledore stood up to begin his speech.

"I have some start-of-the-term announcements. But now is not the right time. Let the feast begin!"

The delicious waft of food that floated through my nostrils. All kinds of dishes appeared. I dug in and filled my plate with many varieties of food like pasta, steak and kidney pudding, roasted chicken, grilled bacon, steamed beans, peas, etc. I sighed contentedly. It was so yummy that I took third helpings before the main course vanished. I helped myself to some treacle tart and red velvet cake. We waited for a few minutes before the dessert disappeared. Dumbledore stood up, gave his speech, and told everyone to go to bed except the Heads.

We went to Dumbledore's office with him. He gestured us towards the seats in front of the desks. We sat down.

"Now, a dark, powerful wizard by the name of Lord Voldemort is killing innocent people and taking over Britain. His motive is to keep magic secure in pureblood families. He gains more and more followers by the day. Those who refuse live no longer. James, I made you Head Boy because you are brilliant at leadership. You and I both know that when you graduate, you are going to fight against them. Lily, you are the cleverest, most gifted, and talented witch of your age. You will fight him and do great things. You both are the perfect pair to help the students in these difficult times. Remember, do not exploit your positions. I believe in you. Now, you must be tired. Go on. Professor Flitwick will show you to your dormitories. Good night.

We bid Dumbledore a good night and walked out of his office, amazed. Professor Flitwick led us to the fourth floor. He said 'Bouillabaisse' to the painting of a beautiful woman sniffing flowers in her garden. As the portrait swung open, a gasp left my lips. It was a common room decorated with the colors of Gryffindor. I gaped, looking around the room and noticing the doors for the first time. The first one indicated that it was a study. The second one was the bathroom. And the last ones were James' and mine dormitories. Our names were engraved on both the doors. There was a desk, a closet, a dresser, and a king-sized bed. There was a desk, a dresser, a closet, and a king-sized bed with curtains in my room. I changed my uniform and plopped myself on my bed with Pride and Prejudice. A little later, I yawned, put my book down, and drifted into sleep.
