18. Wounds and treatments
Third person's POV
Remus Lupin, a polite, helpful and intelligent being transformed into a fully-fledged beast once again.
He thrashed and struggled, but that was the most he could do. He had no choice. Neither did his best friends, James and Sirius. Both the Potters watched him go through an extreme process of torture as they had done several times before.
During a werewolf transformation, a human turned into a wolf completely and retained no human characteristics or mannerisms. In other words, it felt like going through hell. And it was no different for Remus this time.
Pain. That was all he felt. Pain that flowed through his body, screams of anguish escaping his lips. His body strained, each bone broke and reformed, and his eyes turned amber. Fur grew on his body, and the kind, gentle bookworm was now a bloodthirsty beast.
Pain that flowed through each vessel, travelled each capillary, overcame his body, overcame his senses. he felt, smelled and breathed pain. Pain that hurt, yet was so sweet at the same time.
Pain that made his body shiver and writhe, pain that silenced the screams of anguish, because his lungs were shot due to the high octaves that they emitted. He couldn't move, and he wanted to struggle against the bonds in which he was trapped. He saw two peculiar animals in front of him. One was a large, shaggy black dog and the other was a stunning yet strong stag. Remus the werewolf felt intimidated by them, so he slashed the stag with a sharp claw. It barely scraped his chest but must have hurt. The male deer staggered in surprise, then bleated something to his fellow dog friend. The dog, Padfoot, jumped on top of Moony and pinned him to the ground, but he knew it was a losing battle because the dog was much smaller than the big, scary werewolf. Moony pushed Padfoot off of him and pounced, but missed.
He didn't know who the two animals were, but their scents seemed familiar.
Friends, said a small voice in the back of his mind.
The word echoed in his head, as though his mind was a mountain and someone had shouted the word at it.
Yet it got stronger. The one word overcame his thoughts, and he felt calmer. His body stopped shaking, and he focused on that word.
Friends. Friends. Friends.
The sane part of Remus Lupin focused on that word, allowing that one miraculous word to have an exhilarating effect on his body.
His taut muscles relaxed, and his bared fangs closed.
He looked around. He saw the stag and the dog sitting in front of him, the dog's tail wagging and his tongue sticking out of his mouth with what seemed like concern.
Moony leaned forward and licked the deer's wound, and the deer let out a frustrated sound as if to say, Hey! You ruined my fur! I spent hours styling that, you know! The black dog, meanwhile, let out a bark that sounded suspiciously like laughter.
And Moony didn't notice anything around him, for these two animals, were his whole world, and they were his life.
Padfoot barked suddenly, indicating that they needed to get out of here, probably before people cam around. But Moony had other plans. He spotted a petite doe in a small clearing about fifty feet away. He dashed towards it to make it his prey.
