People filled the train station, all pushing against each other's shoulders. Thousands of parents saying their goodbyes to their kids. But not me. I stood there alone, holding onto the ticket that I spent every little penny I had on.
I had gone to the penvenies house before I had come here. But they weren't there. My only hope is that they were alive, somewhere far from here. I hoped to see them again but I wasn't to sure that would happen.
"All aboard all aboard!" The man yells from the train
I join the line to get into the train holding onto my ticket
"May I have your ticket please?" The woman asks as I step up
I give her my ticket and she takes a quick look
"On you go" she tells me as I step on board
Surprisingly I found a compartment that was completely empty. I take my small bag that I had and put it up top. Once I get it up I take a seat by the window. After a few minutes I look up hearing the door open. And by the grace of God is was Susan
"Cora!" She exclaims
"Oh Susan!" I say jumping up and giving her a hug
"I thought I was never going to see you guys again" I tell her then give all of them a hug
Once they get their bags up Lucy sits down next to me as I hold her in one arm
"Where are you going to?" Susan asks sitting down across for me
"Um well I'm not to sure. I don't have any money left, I spent the rest of it on that ticket" I tell her
"But-did your mother not give you any more money?" Susan asks me
"Well no-" I start to say
"I knew that woman was never a good person she doesn't even care that you don't have a place to stay-" Peter starts to say getting all defensive
"Peter stop!" I say raising my voice some making him stop
"She didn't make it out of the bombing" I tell them
"We were running towards the shelter and she got hit. There was nothing more I could do. So in the morning I got every bit of money we had left, packed the small bit of clothes I had and bought a ticket. I'll figure out where I'm going once the train stops" I tell them
"Come with us" Susan says
"What no I can't do that-" I start to say
"No you have no where else to go, I know mother wouldn't mind. You're coming with us" Peter tells me
I give them both a grateful smile
"Thank you" I tell them almost tearing up
"You're coming with us?" I hear Lucy ask looking up at me
"I guess I am yeah" I smile
"Yay! The more people the better, makes it feel more like home" Lucy smiles before cuddling back into my side
If only I really knew what a home felt like.
The train stops in the middle of a grassy area with trees everywhere. I spotted a name above the station 'Coombe Halt'. But yet no one was there waiting. Then we heard a horn of a car approaching, we all grabbed our things and ran out trying to get their attention. But the person ended up completely ignoring us.
"The professor knew we were coming" Susan says
"Perhaps we've been incorrectly labeled" Edmund suggests
Before anyone could say anything else a loud voice came.
"Come on hup! And whoa whoa" she says as we see a woman on a carriage came right in front of them
"Mrs. Macready, is that correct?" Susan asks her
"I'm afraid so" she says
"Is this it then? Haven't you brought anything else? I thought it was supposed to be four of you?" She asks back to back
"Uh no ma'am, it's just us" Peter tells her
"Small favors" she says then nods over to the back for us to get in
One by one we all get in. Lucy sitting on my lap, trying to make room for the rest of them. Mrs. Macready then starts to shout and hit her horse as it takes us back to the home.
I look out at the fields with a small smile on my face that I'm not having to find a place to live by myself. I look over back at Susan
"Thank you" I mouth to her as she gives me a smile and a nod back
