The video was realized by Samuel Bayer, who realized the video of "American Idiot". Jamie Bell and Evan Rachel Wood are the starsof the video, which does not speak about Billie Joe's father, but rather about a reflection on the American atmosphere after 11 September attacks

In an interview with MTV, Bayer declared that this video was "the most beautiful thing which I have never made ".

According to the video pop-up of VH1, all the explosions in the clip were real. A guy of the effects even had to evade a rocket when he flew through the window where he was parked.
