The rain poured heavily across the land. It hadn't rained very often this Winter but it definitely was getting colder each time.

By time you know it, the snow will start to fall.

The journey for Kiba and Naruto was a long one submerged in complete silence. Naruto kept his gaze out his window and despite glancing at the blonde every now and then Kiba tried to keep his eyes on the road.

But how could he when his mind was just as heavy as the rain was.

Thoughts flooded his attention while memories of him and Naruto tried to take cover on higher ground, fighting to keep his spirits up and make him believe that this wasn't the end.

No matter how much, he wanted to rip that ring off of Naruto's finger, he knew that this wasn't about trying to win him over anymore.

He knew how he felt about him.

He just needed to accept the fact that, they could be together and that would be okay.

"How long do we have until we get there?" Naruto asked, actually starting the conversation this time.

"Not long." Kiba advised him, secretly thankful for the rain so that he could take his time.

"..."

"You want to take a nap until we get there?" He asked.

"I'm not tired."

"Maybe you're hungry then, you haven't eaten since this morning, right?"

"..."

"I can just stop by-"

"No, don't stop for anything just keep the car going."

"But aren't you-"

"I'm not hungry, Kiba!" He spat as he glared at the brunette before his features soften as they locked eyes and he averted his gaze.

"..."

"Just...Just keep the car going, please." Naruto said in pleading tone. He didn't mean to come off so strong to Kiba, but at this point he felt he was overstepping on the boundaries that Naruto was trying desperately to keep him from crossing.

"Only if you have something to eat." Kiba replied plainly, almost as if what just happened didn't faze him at all.

But deep inside, he felt it.

But he wasn't going to give up without a fight.

"..." Naruto sighed as he stared out the window and watched the rain pouring outside. He knew it was going to be a long ride and no matter how he tried his stomach would eventually reveal whether or not it was truly hungry.

"Please, it'll help me calm down." Kiba confessed as he gripped the steering wheel and showed a half sad but also genuine smile. It was all he could do right now.

"For you to calm down..." Naruto trailed as he looked at him once more.

"Yeah, I worry about you sometimes and I get it that right now there is no us. But that still doesn't mean I don't care for you, Kit- I mean Naruto... I still do care about you, so, if not for yourself then, please eat for me." Kiba explained, covering up what he really meant but Naruto wasn't dense enough not to read through the lines of Kiba's words.

In these short few months he's been able to tell a lot about the brunette, just like he has learned a lot of tells about him.

He figured that if this was truly going to be the end of them then maybe he should just give Kiba a little bit more time to soak him in. It wasn't the healthiest approach for either of them but somewhere in Naruto's mind he believed that eventually Kiba would one day move on from him.

Even if deep down he didn't want that. He's grown to like his company, his personality, his touch.

Everything there is to him, but he can't show him that or he only be tangled in Naruto's mess.

"Alright, I'll eat. Anywhere that serves ramen?" Naruto asked as he kept his gaze out the window.

"Hm, I think I know a place." Kiba chuckled while smiling to himself as memories came flooding back to him from that very special day.

Kiba drove them to Ichiraku Ramen the place they had their first date. Although Naruto was hesitant he knew that if he resisted to go in then it might start an argument or even hurt the brunette's feelings and he didn't want either of those things.

He wanted closure, and to some degree he wanted reassurance.

They entered the establishment and were greeted by the staff as per usual, they ordered their food and were even given extra from the owner himself as he had a lot of respect for Kiba and wanted too congratulate him for not giving up on finding love.

Which to Kiba felt a bit bittersweet while for Naruto it made him uncomfortable.

The pair sat down and ate in quiet while watching other customers come inside and enjoy themselves, some were family, some were by themselves and some were lovers.

From the eyes of anyone else Kiba and Naruto could easily be described as friends, but the only thing in each of their minds was that they probably saw them as a couple.

"I'm ready to leave." Naruto requested as it was all getting to him now.

"But...you haven't finished your food." Kiba replied as he stared down at Naruto's practically full bowl of ramen.

"I've lost my appetite. Can we just leave now?" He demanded as he got up from the table and just left.

Kiba sat there composing himself and finding all the strength he could muster to not behave anyway he would regret later as he watched the blonde leave him behind.

He wondered to himself if it was all worth it, only for the blonde to actually not want him in the end. Was he just wasting his time with him?

If he was then, what would he do without him? He's never really had anything else going for him up until he met Naruto.

Unless he gives that a chance.

The more he tried to prove that he still had a chance was the more Kiba realized how dependent on Naruto he was and for some reason a part of him didn't want to just accept that fact.

With or without him, Kiba didn't want to be who he was because of the man he loved, he wanted to be who he wanted to be just because he wanted to be.

It's very short, I know. But at least for this specific chapter it delivered the new plot point that it needed too. Also writing is so hard when you don't have all the pieces but only bits and pieces of a few things and then you have to fill in the in between 🥹
