Welcome, everyone. Today we have the lovely Neonskittles98

A big thank you to her for taking the time to answer these questions.

If you haven't read her books then please do. They're amazing...

Without further ado...

1. What inspired you to start writing?

Well I've always been a bookworm. And I really like fanfiction because it gives fans the opportunity to expand on the known universe of their favourite book. My 6th grade teacher introduced me to books like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and City of Ember. These are books that really inspired me because they all have very large creative universe with very relatable characters. It made me wants to explore those worlds through my writing and show people what I saw. I wanted to experiment with the settings and characters of the books I loved and create my own characters in order to explore those settings and characters in my own unique way. That's what inspires me to write.

2. Did you have any writers' block along the way? how did you get past them?

I had writer's block that was so bad I thought I would never recover from it. I just had to push on through. It also helps to switch things up. I'd recommend trying to take a break from the overarching plot a just write a chapter that is fun for you to write. It also helps to reread the chapters you already wrote, so that you can reacquaint yourself with your own characters and writing style. The most important thing to remember is that you are your own self critic. If I didn't post anything until I thought it was perfect. I would never post at all. It's okay to have self-doubts and its okay to take your time over-coming them, as long as you don't give up.

3. Do you see yourself in any characters and why?

I see myself in both of the original characters I created for my HP Fanfic: Anna and Sophia. Sophia sort of reminds me of how I was a middle school student. I was pretty shy and a bit of a bookworm. Anna more or less represents my ideals. I used to be a student teacher before I switched to an English literature major. It gave me a whole new perspective on how much some teachers really care about their students. She's also a lot braver that I am and she inspires me to note be afraid to take the initiative. I also relate to her feeling like she needs to protect and help everyone. I also talk a lot, which I think Anna and I also have in common. We're both pretty opinionated.

4. How old are you?

I am 22 years old.

5. How old were you when you started writing?

I guess around 14 or 15. I'm not entirely sure. My account is seven years old.

6. Can you remember what you felt when you first started writing? what did you feel?

I didn't really think anyone would read it. I was new to Wattpad and I had no idea what I was doing. I was really shocked that people actually liked what I was writing. It was really rewarding to see people enjoy what I wrote. I was incredibly nervous this I would ruin the story by writing something people didn't like but I've discovered that the key is to write a story that you genuinely love and enjoy. In order to really make a story work, you have to put a piece of yourself into it. You got to be your story's first fan. I still get a lot of anxiety about what I write, but I realize that I was worrying for nothing once I actually post it.

7. What's your outside life like?

I'm really family oriented and focused on my college studies right now.

8. Where do you get your ideas from?

I get inspiration from a lot of random places. I can't really pinpoint a specific source. I look at images on Pinterest and stuff for inspiration sometimes but mostly I don't really think about where my idea comes from. I just get random bursts of inspiration sometimes. I write the best at night, though. 9. Watch anime, read comics, sew (I'm very bad at it though), browse YouTube, doodle, and hang out with my cats.

9. What do you like to do when you're not writing?

Watch anime, read comics, sew (I'm very bad at it though), browse YouTube, doodle, and hang out with my cats.

10. What does your family think about your writing?

They found out how many views I have on my story and got really excited. But mostly I don't really talk about it much. I don't really like having people I know personally reading my stories. It makes me anxious.

11. What do you think makes a good story?

A REALLY REALLY good story is a story that you stay up late reading because you can't get enough of it. It's the kind of story that you can read over and over again and still find new things you love about it. A good story makes your heart hurt when it's over because you had so much fun reading it that you didn't want to stop. A good story is a ride that you never want to get off of. That's what I believe anyway.

12. What's your favourite genre?

Honestly? I've been really into thriller-supernatural-mystery type stuff lately. I'm not good at writing that kind of stuff and but I love it. I also kind of like noir style things. But most of what I like is just good old fashioned fantasy genre stuff. I love a good adventure story that takes place in a unique and lively world. Those types of stories are always a treat to read.

13. Do you write on wattpad or do you use software (like Microsoft word)?

Yeah, I mostly just write on Wattpad.

14. Do you work on an outline or just go with the flow?

I definitely just go with the flow. I'm kind of a hot mess, lol. I'm not a very methodical writer. I just say whatever comes natural. If I don't write down what I'm thinking immediately, I'll forget the entire thing.

15. Do you have anything specific you want to say to readers?

I would say this: The next time you read a story and think "man, I love this story", stop and think WHY you love it. Think about what, you, as a reader enjoy reading. What makes you laugh the hardest? What makes you smile the most? What makes you tear up? What quotes or characters motivate and inspire you?

Thinking about those things in depth can tell you a lot about yourself and what kind of reader you are, in my opinion.

16. And lastly, Do you have any advice for new writers.

It's perfectly okay to make mistakes. The more you write the more you learn.

Remember to break up really big paragraphs into smaller chunks. Big walls of text scare readers away.

Think of the summary and the cover of your book as your 'hook' put effort and thought into it. Never say "I'm bad at summaries" or "book is better than the summary". That's you self-sabotaging yourself with your own self-doubt.

Your writing is never as bad as you think it is. It only seems that way because, you, as the author, already know what's going to happen next. When you are a reader, it's an entirely different experience.

Don't give up on a book super early just because people aren't reading it. People usually don't click on a story unless it has a certain amount of chapters. They don't want to wait a super long time for an update so they wait until a story has devolved more before trying it out.

Don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone! Try different writing styles! Put a splash of horror in your romance novel! Go nuts! Writing is FUN and it's limitless. Don't let it scare you. Don't let your anxiety stop you from trying out an idea you really like.
