Chapter Eleven: Personal Questions

Chapter Eleven: Personal Questions

"You hook up with that neighbor chick yet?" Coco asked as EZ placed a beer in front of him. "Angel said she's fuckin' hot." He added with a grin on his face.

"She's married." EZ said while keeping his face blank as he wiped down the bar.

The Prospect knew exactly what Coco was trying to do. He was trying to get a rise out of him, and he wouldn't be surprised of Angel put him up to it. Ever since Angel had met Selena all his older brother did was tease him about the green eyed book store owner.

"Yeah, but her husband doesn't live here." Coco pointed out. "You too pussy to try and get with her?" Coco asked with a laugh.

EZ ignored Coco's taunting as he continued to wipe down the bar. It was better to ignore Coco than to throw fists at him, besides EZ knew when he became a Prospect would be be subject to taunting and jokes at his expense. It was what being a prospect was about. Well, that and doing all the bitch work.

"Leave the prospect alone, Coco." Hank said while taking over the empty bar stool next to Coco. "He's got enough shit to do than hear you running your mouth." He said, nodding his thanks as EZ slid a beer towards him.

Coco rolled his eyes but nodded, patting the older Mayan on his back, grabbing his beer before heading off towards one of the many girls from Vicki's that was hanging around the clubhouse on this Friday night.

"You know there's no rule against teasing him back." Hank said. "You can get your jokes in too. He's doing it to see if you actually have the balls to say something back." The older Mayan said.

"I know." EZ simply said. "Feel like it's better to ignore him sometimes." The younger Reyes said as looked over to where his brother and Diego sat. "You think Bishop is gonna let him Prospect?" EZ asked, nodding towards the the young Cortez man.

Hank turned around and looked over at The older Reyes brother laughing with the young man he had come to know as Diego Cortez. He studied Diego for a moment before turning his attention back towards EZ.

"I think so. He seems like a good kid. I think he'll make a good prospect." Hank said, offering his opinion on the matter. "What do you think of him?"

"He seems okay." EZ said. "I don't know much about him. I know his sister better than I know him." He said, the raise of Hank's eyebrow not going unnoticed by EZ.

A chuckle left Hank's mouth. "I'm sure you do prospect."

A tired sigh left EZ's mouth as he closed the door to his Pop's house. He raised an eyebrow as he heard laughter coming from the kitchen, he swiftly walked towards the kitchen, stopping in the doorway as he saw his Pop sitting at the kitchen table laughing along with Selena.

EZ cleared his throat, catching their attention as he continued to stand in the doorway โ€” his mind wondering why Selena was there. It wasn't that he wasn't happy to see the green eyed brunette, seeing the way her eyes lit up as she laughed with his Pop, but it felt weird seeing a girl in his childhood home besides Emily.

"Ezekiel." Felipe said as he stared at his son with a blank face. The laughter quickly being replaced by a seriousness that EZ was much more use to.

"Hi, EZ." Selena said with a smile. "I should get going. It's late." She added while looking down at her phone.

Selena hadn't planned on spending her night at the Reyes house, but Felipe had been nice enough to invite her over for dinner and she couldn't say no, and she was glad she hadn't. Felipe Reyes was a sweet man โ€” a bit too serious, but Selena was sure he had his reasons why. It had been nice to enjoy dinner and conversation after the last two months.

"Thank you for dinner, Felipe." Selena said with a smile as she stood up from the table. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight, Selena." Felipe gave the young brunette smile before gathering up the dirty plates from the table and bringing them to the sink. "Why don't you walk Selena out, Ezekiel." It wasn't a suggestion coming from Felipe's mouth, and EZ knew that.

EZ nodded as he followed Selena outside. They stood on the porch in silence as she ran a hand through her hair. EZ's brown eyes zoned in on her ring finger, noticing her wedding ring still wasn't on her finger. It had been gone for a few months, replaced by simple silver ring with a moon on it. He thought about asking Selena about the missing ring, but in the back of his mind he already knew the answer to that question. It was pretty obvious.

"Your dad is really nice." Selena said with a smile as her green eyes connected with EZ's brown ones.

"Yeah." EZ nodded, unsure of how one responded to that.

"Is your mom โ€”"

"She's dead." EZ said, cutting the brunette off before she could finish her question.

"Shit. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked." Selena cursed herself for asking such a personal question.

Sure, her and EZ were friends but they hadn't really dipped into the part of their friendship were they asked each other deep personal questions. She wouldn't mind dipping into that part of their friendship though.

"What about your parents?" EZ questioned. He didn't know much about Selena, and he wanted to change that.

"Oh, uh. I don't know my dad. I mean, I barely know him. He's been in and out of my life so much that I don't remember what he looks like." Selena said with a short laugh as she tried to picture what her father looked like โ€” a blank picture coming up. "My mom has a lot of problems. It's really hard to explain Arabella Vega." The brunette said with a sigh.

"It's okay." EZ said softly. "You don't have to explain your mom to me." He said with a reassuring smile forming on his face.

"Thanks." Selena said softly. "Have a Goodnight, EZ." She said walking down the porch steps. "Hey," Selena quickly turned around looking back at EZ. "Do you think you could talk to Letty? I haven't been able to get in contact with her since some woman came in and told me she would no longer be working at the store."

It had been two months since that woman came in and Selena hadn't been able to get in contact with Letty at all. It was making the brunette nervous that something had happened to the young girl that she felt the need to protect. Letty reminded her so much of her when she was that age, and she wanted to make sure the girl was alright.

EZ rubbed the back of his neck as he saw the concern in her green eyes. He knew exactly who the woman Selena was talking about was. "Yeah. I'll see if i can talk to her."

"Thank you so much, EZ." The brunette gave him one last smile before walking the short distance to her house.

EZ waited until Selena was in her house before making his way back into his Pop's. He made his way to his childhood bedroom, taking off his kutte and kicking off his boots before laying down on the bed. He could feel his heart start to speed up as Selena's green eyes entered his mind before he drifted off to sleep.
