chapter 30
code for something
Izzy put down her book, accepting the incoming call from her friends. "What's up?" She asked, putting it on speaker so she could place it on the table.
"So," Riley started, revealing to her that she was the one who started this call. "Chris ditched me, because he has to work. Do you guys want to go grab a coffee with me? I know you aren't doing anything important."
"Excuse you?" Robin scoffed. "I was just about to record a new video, so I am doing something important."
"Yeah, I am with Robin, we are busy," Amy proclaimed.
Riley rolled her eyes at them, waiting for the reply of her other friends.
"I am not going to get a coffee, but I could go. I'd like to get a break from this too," Laska sighed, staring at all the papers on her table. Interior design was a funny job, but also a hard one.
"I was in the middle of rereading six of crows, but fine, I am down for caramel macchiato," Izzy said, closing her book, putting it on the side of the table so she knew she wanted to finish reading it later.
"I am coming too," Astran said, putting away his book. Unlike Izzy, he had been learning until now, and actually felt like grabbing coffee soon.
"I am with Jisung, so I can't," Tessa spoke up, and just when she finished, a loud hello from her soulmate came, making them chuckle. "I'll join next time if you don't piss me off," she chuckled. "Bye, guys."
"Hana, you coming?" Izzy asked, standing up from her chair to prepare.
"Yeah, unless you mind Seungmin tags along? I am with him."
"Bring him, yeah!" Riley answered, happy to have more coffee friends. "So the six of us, right?"
"Yes, you can still count," Izzy chuckled. "I can be at our café in about ten minutes, what about you guys?"
"Something like that too," Astran responded, also getting up to take his stuff.
"Well, like fifteen minutes, I think. I don't know how long it usually takes me," Riley shrugged, already putting her shoes on. "Alaska is the furthest though, she is going to take the longest."
"We will be there in less than five minutes, we'll pick a table," Hana proclaimed, walking with Seungmin towards the café. They were babysitting again together and not so far away so they didn't need to worry about coming in late.
"I'll take the taxi and get there before Riley, don't worry about me," Laska said, taking her keys and money before walking out of her room. "I am leaving!" She called after she hung up on her friends so she wouldn't cause them a hearing loss. "Not sure when I am coming back, not late though." She wasn't sure if her parents, or brother, were listening to what she was saying, but she still felt like letting them know. Just in case.
"Tell Felix to answer my texts!" Hyunjin yelled at her from his room, not even bothering to say goodbye or ask where she was going.
Alaska did her best and ignored him, already calling a taxi for herself.
Izzy and Astran had met in front of the café, walking inside together. Just as expected, Hana and Seungmin were already inside, laughing together.
"What's funny?" Izzy sat on the empty seat next to Hana while Astran sat on the opposite side. "I know Seungmin is hilarious, so share some new jokes with us."
"I've been making fun of you," he grinned at her, making the brunette scoff.
"We weren't making fun of you, don't worry," Hana chuckled. "We just talked about the kids we babysit today. This two year old accidentally called him papa today and he has been blushing ever since," Hana teased her boyfriend, smiling at him before turning her head back to Izzy.
Izzy laughed, "papa Seungmin. Don't let that give you any ideas though," Izzy warned them right away, making both of them roll their eyes. "I would kill Seungmin. And my dad would too," she chuckled.
Hana chuckled at that too, nodding as she knew it was true. "I wouldn't want Katashi to kill my boyfriend."
"Katashi?" Astran questioned, watching the three of them.
"My dad, Byun Katashi," Izzy explained. "And a like-dad to Amy and Hana," she added. The three of them were so close that it was normal for them to call Izzy's dad by his first name. He had been around for the two sisters more than their biological parents had been, and they were grateful to him for that.
"Speaking of, he is coming to Korea on Monday. He wants to go and grab lunch with us," Izzy informed Hana.
"Really? I haven't seen him in so long, I'll make sure I am free," the black haired girl nodded with a smile on her face.
Another five minutes passed by, and while Astran and Izzy were talking about the new books they've read, and Hana and Seungmin were talking about what Hana is currently doing in her lessons, Riley and Alaska had walked into the café, already waving at their friends.
"Riley, when you were so on time, can you go and order for all of us?" Izzy smiled innocently at the older girl. Riley raised her eyebrow at her, but still walked to the barista to order.
With the help of the pink haired barista, Riley walked to the table with coffee for everyone - except for Alaska who didn't want one - and sat down next to Astran.
"Izzy, are you working tomorrow? Please, tell me you do, I have a feeling the manager put me here alone for tomorrow," the barista asked as she gave the brunette her coffee.
"I am," she nodded. "I am glad you're here too, Jisoo. I really hoped I wasn't put with Sunwoo again, he's been acting weird lately," Izzy sighed in relief.
"Oh yeah, I noticed too," the barista agreed, looking at the smaller group at the table. "I am not going to bother you anymore, enjoy your coffee," she smiled at them before walking back to her place as a new customer just walked in.
"So, what's with the 'Chris ditched me for work'?" Izzy asked, already taking a sip of her coffee. "I am pretty sure that's a code for-" she glanced at Seungmin and then back at Riley- "something. Code for something."
"Code for something?" Seungmin questioned, already weirded out by them.
"Yeah, duh. This meeting is for gossip, not just coffee. The coffee is just a bonus," Riley agreed. "I can't believe the three didn't get it," she shook her head.
"Wait, this was a code?" Alaska asked, as confused as Seungmin and Hana were. "I thought you just wanted your daily coffee and Chris really had to work."
"He is working, but I needed to talk," Riley rolled her eyes at her best friend. "Am I the only one who actually remembered the stupid codes Izzy came up with?"
"I remember it too, but I thought you didn't so I didn't even think you could be referring to the 'I want to talk about a boy, come here' situation," Astran proclaimed. In his opinion the codes were stupid, and too weird for anyone to remember so he wasn't even surprised.
"Well, anyways," Riley started, ignoring the fact Astran just basically called her stupid. "You know how Chris and I have been hanging out lately..."
"He has been talking about you non-stop. It's tiring, and boring," Seungmin interrupted her.
Normally, Riley would already shush him and tell him to not interrupt her when she is talking, but he said something that made her smile. He has been talking about her with his friends.
"And we even went on a few dates," Riley continued, looking at her coffee instead of her friends. "As in actual dates, not just him buying me coffee and then watching me while I was talking."
"He is in love," Izzy commented, shaking her head. "Hyunjin does the same, I am pretty sure Chris likes you, girl. Go and make a move!"
"About that..." Riley spoke up again, this time looking at the others. "He made a move," she explained, revealing the reason why they were talking about it in the first place. "He kissed me."
"What?" Alaska asked right away, happy for her friend but shocked at the same time.
"Christopher Bahng kissed me," she repeated, a smile growing on her face.
"Finally!"
"And what now? Are you two dating? Tell me you aren't still in a talking stage," Astran looked at her, his eyes showing that he really hoped they weren't that stupid to still question their feelings after kissing each other.
Riley nodded, her cheeks slightly red.
