"It's not that hard, you're just dumb," you sighed, watching the blond boy in front of you. His brother chuckled, hiding his notes from him so he wouldn't copy them.
"Hey! That's not fair! Samu gets to sit with you and copy everything so he looks smart but I can't do that!" The boy argued, sulking.
"As if I needed to copy, I am way smarter than you," Osamu rolled his eyes at his twin brother, closing his math book. "You know you won't be able to play if you don't pass this test, right?"
"That's why I have to teach him but you two aren't helping at all," you whined, getting tired of the two of them. As much as you loved them, they were sometimes hard to handle. "You need to focus, Tsumu. You have to divide this, okay?" You looked at him again, pointing at the numbers in his book.
He looked at the math in front of him and then back at you. He really had no idea how to solve it but he didn't want to say anything. You were disappointed enough already.
"Still working on this?" Suna came to the three of you, sliding into the chair next to Atsumu. "I think you're just a bad tutor," he scoffed, leaning closer to see the numbers properly. "Oh, I get it. Atsumu, listen," he started, taking the explanation into his own hands.
You stared at your brother confusedly as he tried to explain everything to him. You understood the math seconds ago but somehow, Suna made you all confused again. You looked at the book again, trying to see the connection between math and volleyball he used while explaining. How was that supposed to help when it was only more confusing?
"Oh! I understand!" Atsumu exclaimed, already scribing into his notebook.
"How??" You questioned, staring at the two boys. You glanced at Osamu, hoping to see that he was as confused as you.
"I guess if you explain it stupidly enough this dumbass will understand it, too," he shrugged. "As long as he passes, it's fine."
You sighed again, taking all your stuff before turning around to your own desk. "I am so tired of you guys, I want to hang out with my girls again."
"Mood, I don't want to be here with you but look at it," Suna mumbled, taking out his phone and headphones. "Don't talk to me unless you're dying," he proclaimed. "Actually, don't talk to me even if you're dying. Just film it for me."
"Hey! Who am I supposed to talk to now?" Atsumu questioned, looking at his friends. Unfortunately for him, Suna had already his headphones on, ignoring everyone, and you were too busy asking Osamu about his current crush you've been dying to know more about.
As your next lesson started, and you were all handed your test papers, you couldn't help it and think about if Atsumu will be able to do well. You weren't showing it much to them, but you really cared about all of them, and you were a fan of their team. You weren't sure what they would do if Atsumu couldn't play in the next match against Karasuno just because he didn't understand some math problems.
You looked at the papers in front of you. It seemed easy in your eyes, just some simple - it was nowhere close to simple - math equations you could solve in under ten minutes. But the boy behind you, for whom this was way more important, didn't see it like that, and it was stressing you out. You were stressing enough for the both of you.
"Calm down and solve your own math," Osamu whispered, slightly kicking your leg under the table. You glanced at him and then back at your paper. Okay, this was easy, you nodded to yourself, already scribing numbers on the test sheet.
"Well, that was easy," Osamu commented, his bag slung over his shoulder as he walked out of the classroom.
"Speak for yourself," his twin mumbled. "Let's just go to our practice already."
You looked at your phone to see the clock. "You should really speed up then, you start in five minutes and you still need to get dressed."
"Really?? Fuck," Atsumu panicked, already running through the hallway. Osamu and Suna watched him from behind, shaking their heads tiredly. "I'll see you later, little one!! Come on guys, we're late!"
"I am not that little!" You argued right away, sighing when you couldn't see him anymore. "I swear I am not that small," you muttered to yourself.
"The guys are making such a mess again," a female voice spoke up behind you. "I was on the first floor and just knew I would find you here because of them." You quickly turned around, hearing the familiar voice. "What are you still standing there for? We're grabbing coffee, come on," Izzy commented, making you chuckle.
You followed the brunette immediately, walking towards your favorite cafรฉ. "Oh god, I just saw the hottest guy," Izzy commented, turning around to face you. She had stopped right in front of the cafรฉ door so you had to take her to the side.
"Aren't you, I don't know, dating, girl?" You questioned, shaking your head. "I am not sure how Suna would feel about that."
"Oh, he would hate that," she laughed. "Especially when the guy is Kageyama."
"Who?" You asked her confusedly. "And how does my brother know who that is?"
"Are you dumb?" Izzy looked at you confusedly, sighing as a sign of giving up on you. "Tobio Kageyama? The guy from karasuno? Suna is literally playing against him next week. He is inside looking hella fine!"
"Oh, I guess I don't know him," you muttered, trying to look inside. "He can't be that good looking though, right?"
She scoffed, already basically dragging you into the cafรฉ. "Just go and see for yourself," she proclaimed.
"If he is from Karasuno what is he even doing here?" You asked, sitting down to a table for two with your coffee in your hands.
"I have no idea," the brunette shrugged, placing her caramel macchiato on the table, secretly glancing at the boy only a few tables away from them. He looked like he was waiting for someone, and that he definitely didn't like it. "Should we just ask?" She glanced at you again, a smirk on her face.
You raised your eyebrow at her, questioning if she meant it. She didn't know him, you didn't know him, and he definitely didn't know you. So why would it be a good idea to go and ask him what he's doing here?
But Izzy didn't say it would be a good idea. In fact, she knew what he was like, and knew he wouldn't be happy about two high schoolers approaching him. But that was the fun of it, wasn't it?
"Oh god, we're really doing it, huh?" You asked which only made her smile grow wider. She nodded, standing up with her coffee in her hands.
"Tobio Kageyama!" Izzy called at the whole coffee, making your eyes widen. Suddenly, you were regretting coming here with her. If you could, you would act as if you didn't know her at all.
The black haired boy looked up, frowning when he noticed you two. You confusedly glanced at the brunette next to you, trying to see why he reacted like that. Obviously, no one would like it if someone randomly yelled their name at the whole cafรฉ, but his expression looked like he knew her.
The boy sighed, turning back so he wouldn't need to face you. That, however, didn't stop the girl next to you from walking up to him. You quickly caught up on her, watching her slide into the chair opposite of him. "What do you want, Iz?"
"You two know each other?" You asked confusedly, your eyes moving from one of them to the other one.
"Good job, babes," Izzy chuckled. "The hottest guy I know, I am telling you."
"I hate you," he sighed. "Leave me alone, I am waiting for Atsumu."
"Atsumu has practice right now.." you muttered carefully, realizing that Atsumu probably has no idea he is waiting for him. Kageyama immediately glanced at you, trying to see if he heard correctly while Izzy burst out into a laugh.
"I am sorry, I am sorry," she managed to say between laughing. "He's preparing for the game against you instead after inviting you here, isn't that funny?"
"That's...just Atsumu," you sighed, not even surprised by it. "He's an idiot sometimes."
"All the time," Kageyama mumbled, already annoyed by the male even though he wasn't even there. "We're going to beat them anyway, no need to ditch me for practice."
"Well, at least you can hang out with us now," Izzy proclaimed. "The hottest ladies you know," she grinned, making him scoff. You shook your head over her, taking a chair for yourself from a different table since it looked like you weren't leaving his table anytime soon.
"Why don't you go annoy Tsukishima instead?" He asked, looking at the brunette next to you.
"Because he's not here, duh."
"I am not here either, I am leaving if Atsumu has no plan on showing up."
You kept glancing from Izzy to the boy opposite her. It was only now that you got to take a proper look at him. You couldn't argue with Izzy, he was really handsome. His raven hair and dark blue eyes went perfectly together.
"No! We haven't talked in so long, come on!" Izzy exclaimed, trying to stop him from leaving. He rolled his eyes at her, still standing up.
"I couldn't care less. I have to call Miwa to pick me up. I hope I won't see you again before our match," he fake-grinned at her, making her glare at him. He just shook his head, waving you two a quick goodbye before walking out of the cafรฉ.
"How the hell do you know a guy from Karasuno?" You turned to her right after he left.
"I know a lot of them," she shrugged, taking a sip of her coffee. "I have to see every Inarizaki match or Atsumu would kill me and Suna would tease me about it. I would never hear the end of it if I didn't. Because of that, I got to know a lot of other teams too," she explained. "Most of the guys in Karasuno are friendly and nice so we became friends quickly. Kageyama is still trying to fight it though. And Tsukishima is a bitch," she continued, ranting to you about the boy. She sighed, "and my favorite too. I think I have a thing for rude people."
"How did I not know this sooner?? I swear you four always leave me out on stuff," you sighed. "By the way, you were right, he is super handsome," you commented, making her smile immediately. You could already see the "I told you!" in her eyes.ย
The week passed by quicker than you thought it would. You found out your math scores right the next day and you, and the whole Inarizaki volleyball club, celebrated Atsumu's B. You were proud of him, really. All that was left now was to defeat the Karasuno team after all the stress over who was going to play.
"You'll do great boys," you smiled at the whole team as they walked out of their changing room.
"You're here too?" Suna asked, trying to look like he didn't want you there. But you knew he was glad to see you. Or, you thought he did. Soon after, when he didn't even listen to your answer, and just started looking for Izzy with his eyes, you weren't so sure anymore. Maybe he really didn't care.
"I am glad you're here too, little one!" Atsumu smiled, running to you so he could pull you into a hug. As much as you wanted to hug him back and make this a sweet friendship moment, the nickname he used for you completely ruined it.
"Dumbass," you rolled your eyes, still hugging him back though. "You better win when you tried so hard to be able to play."
"Yeah, you better not disappoint us," Aran patted his back.
"Let's win this, guys," Kita proclaimed, smiling at you before leading the whole team towards the court.
"When you see Izzy tell her to come meet me during our break," Suna quickly said to you before catching up on his team. You rolled your eyes at him, shaking your head as you went to find your other friends in the crowd.ย
"Shit, that was another point for Karasuno," the black haired girl next to you muttered.
"There's no way Inarizaki can still win this, right?" Some guy behind you asked his friends, carefully watching the match.
"Karasuno's setter is really killing it."
"And he looks scary too."
"That little guy on their side is really skilled, don't you think so?"
You carefully watched the match, rooting for your brother and his team. However, a part of you couldn't help it and you found yourself staring at Kagayama, someone you shouldn't be rooting for. You should want them to lose, you should watch your school's team, so why did your eyes always end up on him from all the people on the court?
"Suna!" The brunette next to you, who you knew very well, called at your brother, making him smile before he started paying attention to the ball again.
Then everyone started yelling, screaming even. Kageyama's name could be heard even outside of the stadium as he received another point for his team with his serve. You quickly glanced at the board and then at the boys from your school. This didn't look nice at all.ย
"Shit," Izzy next to you muttered, watching the guys walk away. She glanced at you immediately, worried. "I am going down there, you coming?" You nodded, leaving with her to meet your brother and his friends in their dressing room.
"Rintaro," the brunette stopped him from walking inside. He glanced at his teammates, shaking his head.
"Not now, Izzy, I'll see you later, alright?" You glanced at one of your closest friends, trying to see what was going on in her mind. She didn't look happy, obviously, but she didn't argue.
It was probably the first time you heard her call your brother Rintaro. She never did that around you, only when they were alone, so hearing that, and seeing how he automatically rejected her, all you wanted at that moment was to hug her.
"Hey, you should also go, we'll meet you guys at the front," Osamu walked over to you, slightly smiling as a form of apology before walking inside of the dressing room.
You didn't argue with them either. Instead, you just nodded, turning around immediately so you wouldn't need to watch their sad faces anymore.
"I am going to run to the toilet real quick, you can go first," Izzy informed you, and before you could even say anything, she was gone. You sighed, slowly walking towards the exit.
"That boy.." you muttered, your mind remembering the perfect sets and serves of his. Who was he? Some volleyball genius? "Tobio Kageyama...who are you?" You mumbled as you reached the front door.
The black haired boy took his bag, swinging it over his shoulder. "Kegeyama, don't run away again!" His captain warned him when he noticed he was trying to leave the dressing room. "Wait for us in the front, alright?" Kageyama sighed, slightly nodding before he walked out of the stinky room.
A smile appeared on his face immediately. He had won the match. He didn't want his teammates to see, but he was happy their hard work paid off. He shook his head, getting the smile off his face. However, that didn't last long when he saw you walking out of the stadium right in front of him. You made him smile again.
He had seen you during the game, just watching him while your school's team was on the other side. He could see you secretly cheering for him. It was another thing he didn't want to admit in front of his teammates, but he found you incredibly beautiful. The day at the cafรฉ, when Izzy brought you over to his table, he couldn't help it and looked at you the whole time. He saw you analyzing him, he noticed your choice of drink, he remembered everything about you from that day.
"Tobio Kageyama...who are you?" You mumbled, immediately pulling him back to reality. He walked through the front door right behind you, focusing on everything you were saying. You had no idea he was right behind you, and he would like to keep it that way.
You took out your phone, searching for the boy. Thankfully, it wasn't even hard. Finding his social media was surprisingly easy because Izzy was already following him. You scrolled through his profile, looking at his pictures. He surely was handsome, and he probably knew it too. "How the hell is he good at sports and handsome on top of that?" You sighed, accidentally clicking on the like button. "Shit."
You heard a notification buzz behind you, realizing someone just heard you basically simping for a guy you knew nothing about. You turned around, regretting you ever said anything. It couldn't be worse. There couldn't be anyone worse behind you at that moment.
"Hey," you muttered awkwardly, hiding your phone so he wouldn't notice that it was his profile you were staring at.
"Oh, hey," he mumbled, realizing you found him out. He should have turned his notifications off.
"How, ah, how long were you standing there?" You asked, hoping there was still a chance for you to save the situation.
Kageyama looked at you, thinking about his answer. He could say he just came and had no idea why you were talking to him, but that looked too easy in his eyes. He could also just say he heard everything. That he saw you looking at his pictures and hope for the best, a conversation with you. "Long enough," he answered at the end, happy with himself.
You, on the other hand, weren't happy about that answer at all. He looked as if he was going to curse you out just for existing, and it was intimidating you, especially when you now knew what he heard. "I am sorry, I didn't mean to offend you, I just thought your sets were incredible," you blurted out quickly, slightly bowing to show you meant the apology.
He looked at you confusedly, blinking a few times to make sure he was seeing correctly. "It's...fine?"
"Uhm, congratulations on your win today, Kageyama," you proclaimed, your hand reaching towards him.
He carefully shook your hand, looking into your eyes. "Thank you.." he started, trying to get you to say your name. You quickly introduced yourself, making him nod. "Tobio Kageyama," he said as if you didn't already know him.
"Nice to meet you," you chuckled. "Which way are you heading?" You asked, completely forgetting about your brother and his team.
"I have no idea," he admitted, looking around to prove his words. "I have to wait for my teammates."
You nodded, "yeah, I am waiting for Inarizaki too."ย
It was only now that he realized you were on the opposite team. You might not be a player, but you were related to one. It was your school's team he just won over. For some reason, the win didn't feel as good now.
"Atsumu is finally showing up, huh?" He mumbled. You chuckled, again, nodding. "Maybe he can finally tell me what he wanted before. He told me he just has to tell me in person," he explained.
"That does sound like him, yeah," you laughed. "They should all be here soon, hopefully."
You two had chatted until both teams arrived, not even realized how long you went without getting bored of each other. The intimidating vibes he was giving off before completely disappeared, and the only thing you could see in front of you was a volleyball genius who seemed interested in you as much as you were interested in him.
"What are you doing over here?" Tanaka came over to the boy, wrapping his arm around Kageyama's shoulder. A shorter boy came to his other side, watching you. "That's a pretty lady you got here," he commented, smiling towards you.
You chuckled, thanking him. Kageyama rolled his eyes, getting away from the two boys. "Leave me alone," he said towards them, but they couldn't care less. It became even worse when your friends came to you, Atsumu wrapping his arm around you immediately, just like Tanaka did moments ago, scanning Kageyama with a grin on his face.
"Tobio! You ungrateful bastard," he shook his head. "How can you beat us like this, I am your senior," he laughed, hiding away the pain. You noticed what he was doing but didn't say anything. "And then you even go and talk to our little one without permission."
"Stop calling me a little one," you rolled your eyes at the nickname once again. "And who says he needs any permission from you, or anyone who isn't me?"
"I do, duh," Atsumu laughed again, glancing from you to the boy. "He ruined the surprise I had for him before, now I don't want to set you two up anymore."
"You what?" You questioned, glancing at him immediately.
"I wanted to meet you last week to tell you about our incredible little one, but with everything that happened, I couldn't. I thought I would do so today, but you won and I don't feel like doing so anymore," he explained to Kageyama even though you were the one who asked him about it.
"Have I ever told you I want you to set me up with anyone?" Kageyama raised his eyebrow, getting nudged by Tanaka right away, shushing him down.
"Kageyama, you don't refuse a date with a pretty lady!" He scolded him. "Have you learned nothing from me and Noya??"
"He is only doing a good job not learning from you two," Karasuno's other setter came to you five, a smile on his face.
"Hey! We are great examples!" Noya argued.
"In your dream," Tsukishima, who was secretly behind them the whole time scoffed. "Kageyama doesn't have any skills to pull a girl anyway."
The raven haired boy in front of you glared at him before glancing back at you. His face said it all, he was going to prove to the taller boy behind him anything he needed, even if it meant proving to him he can pull a girl. "Really now? Let's go on a date then," he proclaimed, making you blink a few times. You glanced at Atsumu, and Osamu who quietly joined you a second ago, trying to figure out what to say to that.
"What?" You asked confusedly.
"Atsumu wanted to set us up, let's go on a date then."ย
"I told you I am the best matchmaker!" Atsumu exclaimed once it was only you, him, and his twin brother. Kageyama and his team had left after he convinced you to go on a date with him, while Inarizaki members went all home. Suna and Izzy decided to go together to her house so they weren't walking with you either.
"You're the worst matchmaker," Osamu scoffed. "Don't you think you should have told her about it before setting her up with someone?"
"I don't mind," you commented. "I mean, don't get me wrong, I hate that I found out like that, but...it's Kageyama who we're talking about," you proclaimed and Atsumu gave you one of his mischievous smirks. He knew he had picked the best boy for you already.
"She likes him," Atsumu shrugged.
"No!" You exclaimed immediately, making both of the twins glance at each other. They raised their eyebrows, both of them knowing you were lying.ย
