chapter one
chapter one, a silent matter
you could hear her heart pounding. it was practically beating out of her chest. but that's what high school does to people. it makes them fools, monarch's, and captains on a ship they can't control.
she kept to herself as she locked up her bike on the rack. she was fifth-teen. she couldn't drive. her mother had just allowed her to not wear a helmet about four months ago when biking to school.
it felt like a step in the right direction. that was the only thing girl had to worry about at the very moment. how messy her hair would be if it was pressed down by a object.
she prushed off her outfit like a younger schoolgirl. she wondered if her hair looked good. or even perfect. but it wouldn't matter. no one notice anyways.
she made her way up the stairs of the school building in the front. a layer of stairs that felt like you were getting judged every second while you walked.
they were crowded. multiple students walking up, or just standing there waiting.
waiting for what? she didn't know. sometimes she wished she could figure it out but she's fine not knowing.
the blonde had finally walked into the school building. her head was up yet her eyes were almost glued to the ground.
she needed to make it to her locker. that was the first obstacle of the day. the next was her chemistry class.
as much as the school was made for science nerds or whatever you want to call them she wasn't one of them. she succeeded at other stuff.
mathematics was where she strived, but when you mix it with a chemical substance it's not so easy anymore.
she finally made her way to her locker.
her fingers touched the lock pad as she twisted it smoothly to the numbers that were designated for her. she unlocked it before pulling her half locker open.
she was welcomed with textbooks. and she was ready to put another one in there.
her spanish textbook. she was studying last night for a quiz she would have soon.
the blonde quickly opened her backpack that was once latched to her back but now being held in her delicate hands. they were cold. ghostly even.
they always were.
she grabbed her spanish textbook feeling a big amount of weight leave the bag. she put the spanish textbook in her locker before zipping up her backpack and putting right back on her back.
she looked in her locker for what felt like a split of a moment but must have been forever as she tried to collect her breathing. she needed to slow down her heartbeat.
she heard a hand slam down next to her locker as she jumped slightly. her heartbeat picking up its pace. her hand immediately going to her heart.
" you okay" she heard the voice let out. " i'm fine" stella breathed out before closing her locker and facing her bestfriend.
chloe oliver.
another blonde girl. very smart, popular. the girl had the confidence that stella lacked. the ability to feel wanted. the willing to be a somebody. stella wished she was her.
" you sure because i swear you looked hypnotized for a good two minutes there" chloe joked. stella only rolled her eyes before the two started walking away from her locker.
" hey did you do mr ryan's work" chloe questioned her friend. stella nodded. of course she did. " i'll show you at lunch" stella spoke. chloe smiled back at her.
the two girls met in sixth grade. stella was new to school. first day of middle school. and she was scared.
she was eating alone at lunch when chloe sat down across from her and started to eat stella's grapes as she pulled out her own lunch. it was odd. a total stranger just stealing your food, but that's how chloe was.
she was always there for stella, no matter what. and stella was always there for her.
" i'll see you later" chloe let out as she turned around now walking the correct direction to her class. stella now walking alone.
it was awkward to walk alone. yet she was used to it. her arms were feeling bare as she was t-shirt instead of long sleeves. maybe her arms were to pale or to skinny but she overthinking it all.
she always over thought it all.
she held that ladder that liz stood on in the cafeteria as she adjusted the homecoming banner. " are you sure this is straight" liz asked her. stella nodded.
liz was one of the most popular girls in the school, who just so happened to know stella.
friends, maybe ? who knows.
" betty" liz let out to another blonde girl. so many blondes in a room full of brunettes. betty looked up from the near by table that housed both her and chloe who was currently copying stella's homework.
nothing new.
" what" betty let out. " so stella is saying it's straight but i just don't know if it's like a inch off or" liz let out. " inch off, go down slightly" betty spoke. liz doing what betty says now.
" perfect" betty spoke out in awe. liz smiled at her as she slowly got down off the ladder. stella finally being able to walk back to the table as she's been helping liz for the past seventeen minutes.
she sat down next to chloe as she pulled out her lunch. she pulled out her grapes giving it to chloe before pulling out her sandwich.
betty and liz coming to join them as stella took a bite of her sandwich.
" so who are you guys going to homecoming with" liz asked everyone at the table. chloe let out a shrug. " i'll probably go with like... i don't even know" betty finally concluded.
" what about you, stell" liz asked the blonde girl. " um, i'm not going" stella let out calmly. chloe's heard finally coming up from her homework as she looked at the girl like she was crazy.
" what do you mean you're not going" chloe let out. " i don't like dances" stella spoke out. " no stella you have to go, come on it will be fun" liz let out giving out a worried look paired with her sappy smile.
everyone always fell for that smile.
" i'll think about it" stella spoke loosely. she didn't want them bothering her about it. liz gave her a smile before speaking. " it wouldn't be fun if you weren't there" liz told her. betty and chloe nodding before the conversation was changed to something else.
