One by one each child and parent got into the boat. Wonka sat next to Charlie who sat next to Luella. The others were in rows in front of them. When they started to go down the river, Wonka looked behind them, and then in front of them.

Wonka decides to take some of the liquid chocolate with a ladle, and hands it to Charlie. "Here, have this. You look starved to death."

Charlie takes a sip of it, and his eyes light up with excitement. He then hands it to Luella, who also tried it.

"It's great!" Charlie exclaimed, Luella nodded.

"I second that." She gives the ladle back to Wonka and smiles, "I don't want to be greedy for more, so I'm just gonna sulk here and wait for the next attraction."

"I understand. . " He grins back at her, "But, It's great because it's mixed by waterfall. The waterfall is most important in this process. It mixes the chocolate, churns it up, makes it light and frothy. And by the way, no other factory in the world-. . "

"You already said that." Veruca interrupts aggressively, making Wonka tense up.

"There was no need to cut him off." Luella mutter slightly as she scratched the back of her head. Her eyes trailed over to her side of the boat. "But you know. . I'm just saying." She shrugged.

"You're all quite short, aren't you?" Wonka asked, his smile became unsettling. Luella looked over at him.

"Well, yeah. We're children." Violet snapped, Luella rose her hand slightly.

"Except for me. . I'm an adult and I'm 5 feet tall. . "

"You're fine. . " Wonka said, referring to Luella. His attention went back to the kids. "Well, that's no excuse. I was never as short as you."

"Yes, you were." Mike spoke up.

"Was not," Wonka retaliated, "You wanna know why? Because I distinctly remember putting a hat on top of my head. Look at your little arms- you could never reach it."

"Do you even remember what it was like being a child?" Charlie asked, tilting his head.

"Oh boy, do I!" Wonka replied, he then started to space out, and he asked himself questioningly, "Do I. . ?"

By the time Wonka was done spacing out, they were already at a certain point in the factory. Luella snapped her fingers in his face. "Mr. Wonka!"

"We're headed for a tunnel!" Charlie continued.

Wonka snapped out of his trance and shook his head. "Oh yeah, full speed ahead!"

When the boat sails into the tunnel, everything turns dark. Violet speaks, "How can they see where they are going?"

"They can't!" Wonka replied, "There's no way of knowing where we are going!"

After a long silence, he speaks again, "Switch on the lights!" The lights flash on, one by one. "People, keep an eye out! we're passing some very important rooms here! On your left you'll see clotted cream, coffee cream, hair cream-. . "

"What do you use hair cream for?" Violet's mother asked, her eyebrows furrowed.

"To lock in moisture." Wonka replied once more, "And behind this door, due to unmarked renovations-"

They hear a series of moos and whips being cracked. They look to their left, and its a cow being whipped by Oompa Loompas.

"Whipped Cream?" Luella asks with a smile on her face.

"Precisely!"

"That doesn't make sense." Veruca said, turning towards Wonka and the others.

"How could you not get it?" Luella crossed her arms and furrowed her eyebrows.

"For your information, little girl, whipped cream isn't whipped cream at all, unless it's been whipped with whips! Everybody knows that." He looked onward, not wanting to retaliate with the little girl anymore. "And here we have jelly beans, and past that- oh! Stop the boat! I want to show you something!" Boat started to slow down towards a door, "Welcome to the invention room!"

When the boat stops, everyone gets out, Charlie helps Luella get out of the boat--he knows that when she sits down for a period of time she could lose balance when she stands up straight away. Before she ends up falling, Charlie makes sure that he is helping her out the correct way. She nearly tripped and fell over when she was coming out of the boat. When they walked by, Wonka looked at them and closed the door behind him. "This is the most important room in the entire factory! Now everyone, enjoy yourselves, but don't touch anything, okay? Go on."

Everyone runs throughout the entire factory, but Luella stays close by to Charlie to make sure he doesn't touch anything. Wonka watches them (especially Luella) intentionally, until Violet comes across something.

"Hey, Mr. Wonka! What's this?" She pointed to the strange looking invention, Wonka walks over to it as well.

"Oh! Let me show you!" He presses a button, and a hand comes out to hand him a big red ball. "These are Everlasting Gobstoppers! They're for children who are given very little allowance money. You can suck on it all year, and it'll never get any smaller!" The last bit concerned Luella a little bit, her face twisted into something almost as if she were worried. Wonka noticed this.

"Like gum?" Violet asked.

"No," Wonka shook his head. "Gum is for chewing. If you tried chewing a Gobstopper all of your little teeth would break off! But they do taste terrific."

"Despite the taste. . " Luella crossed her arms and rose an eyebrow. "Wouldn't it choke the child because of how. . um. . huge it is?"

Wonka narrowed his eyes and opened his mouth to speak. He put the Gobstopper in his pocket. "I never thought of it that way. . "

"Well, you might as well start thinking about it now! Make it smaller, but keep the effectiveness of the flavour." She reassured him, "I'm sure it will help it sell big time."

"Right. . " He said after a while and walked over to another machine. "Now this is hair toffee, you can suck on one of these things and within in hour you can grow a new crop of fresh hair will start growing all over the top of your little noggin! With a moustache and beard."

"Who wants a beard?" Mike questioned.

"Well, beatniks for one, folk singers, and motorcycle bike riders. Y'know." His speech started to speed up the more he spoke. "All those hip, jazzy, super cool, neat, keen, and groovy cats. It's in the fridge daddy-o! Are you hip to the jive? Can you dig what I'm layin' down? I knew that you could. Slide me some skin, soul brother!" (that really pained me to write that omg) He held up his hand for a high five, but didn't receive one. Luella was laughing silently as she held her hand up to her mouth.

Wonka cleared his throat and slowly put his hand down. "Unfortunately, the mixture isn't quite right yet. An Oompa Loompa tried it yesterday and. ."

An Oompa Loompa who was covered with hair starting from the top of his head entered into the room.

"How are you today?" Wonka asked, the Oompa Loompa replied with two thumbs up. "You look great! Ooh! Watch this!" He walked over to another machine and pressed a button. What came from it was a piece of gum. Violet took it from the machine as soon as it had arrived.

"You mean, that's it?" Mike asked something once again. Luella groaned inwardly.

"Do you even know what it is?" Wonka snapped back.

"It's gum." Violet replied.

"Yeah, but its a stick of the most amazing and sensational gum in the whole universe! Know why? It's because its a whole three course dinner all by itself!" Wonka exclaimed, smiling brightly. Luella took into account that he got excited when talking about candy.

"Why would anyone want that?" Mr. Salt asked. Wonka pulled out a series of notecards and read off of them:

"It will be the end of all kitchens and cooking. Just one strip of Wonka's Chewing Gum and that will be all you will ever need at breakfast, lunch, or dinner. This piece of gum happens to be tomato soup, roast beef, and blueberry pie."

"It sounds great!" Luella beamed.

"It sounds weird." Veruca said, bringing down the happy atmosphere.

"It sounds like my kind of gum!" Violet says as she takes out the piece of gum she had in side her mouth and puts it behind her ear.

"I'd rather you not chew it. . " He said as he made a face that spoke concern. "There are a few things that we're-"

"I'm the world record holder in chewing gum! I'm not afraid of anything!" She exclaimed as she aggressively started to chew the gum. Wonka took a step back. . Luella came up behind him.

"What's wrong?" She asked, keeping an eye on Violet.

"How is it, honey?" Her mother asked loudly, making sure everyone in the room heard her.

"It's amazing! Tomato soup-I can feel it running down my throat!"

"Yeah, spit it out!" Wonka demanded, and whispered to Luella quickly. "There might be something that's going on with the dessert portion of the gum. . "

"Oh. . ? Also, Violet, for the sake of your own being you should probably spit it out. . " Luella said almost with caution.

"It's changing! Roast beef with backed potato! Crispy skin and butter!"

"Keep going, kiddo!" Her mother encouraged her to keep chewing, "My girl's going to be the first kid in the world to have a chewing gum meal!"

"I'm just a little concerned about the-. . "

"Blueberry pie and ice cream!" Violet exclaimed, Wonka's face fell slightly.

"That part. . " He said quietly.

"Holy nuggets. . what's happening to her face?" Luella pointed out with a gasp.

Mr. Salt exclaimed, "She's turning blue!"

"Well I told you I hadn't got it right, because it gets a little funny when it gets to the dessert. It's the blueberry pie that does it. . I'm terribly sorry." He sighed and watched Violet's transformation. Knowing what would happen next, he stepped behind Luella and Charlie.

Violet examined herself as she swells up, and her entire body has changed hue to a nice violet colour. "Mother, what's happening to me?!"

"She's swelling up!" Veruca called out.

"Like a blueberry!" Charlie continued.

"I've tried it on twenty Oompa Loompas and each one ended up as a blueberry!" He said, starting Violet's mother. "It's just weird!"

"But I can't have a blueberry as a daughter. . ! How will she compete?"

"You can put her in the county fair. . " Veruca spat, making Luella snort.

Once again, the Oompa Loompas came out to perform their song. Afterwards, Wonka was still dancing a little bit, and Luella found it adorable. Violet's mother glared at him, and he immediately stopped dancing. He called over one of his Oompa Loompas and gave him another set of directions.

"The juicing room?!" Mrs. Beauregarde asked, "What are they going to do to her in there?"

"Squeeze her like a pimple! We gotta et the juice out of her immediately." He replied.

Violet cried for help, and her mother immediately ran towards her.

"Come on! Let's boogie!" Wonka said, leading them down the hall. "Without the boat, we'll have to move double time. There's far too much to see."

As they walked down the hall, Luella spoke up. "Mr. Wonka?"

"Yes, Luella?" He answered back, Luella was surprised at how he used her first name. . but didn't mind it afterwards.

"Charlie has a question."

"Go ahead and ask it!" Wonka beamed.

"Why did you decide to let people in?" Charlie questioned.

"Why, to let the people see the factory, of course!" He replied.

"But why now?" Charlie asked again.

"What's the surprise and who gets it?" Mike asks, straight to the point.

"The best kind of prize is a sur-prise!" He exclaimed, and laughed subtly at his joke to ease the rising tension in the room.

"I don't get it. . " Luella muttered.

"Will Violet always be a blueberry?" Veruca asked, Luella even forgot that she was here.

"No. . Maybe. . I don't know. But that's what you get for chewing gum all day. It's honestly very disgusting." He shrugged.

"If you hate gum so much, why do you make it?" Mike asked again.

"Once again, you shouldn't mumble, 'cause it's starting to bum me out." Wonka replied to Mike passive aggressively.

"Do you remember the first candy you ever ate?" Charlie asked, grinning.

Wonka stopped walking, and so did the group. "No. . " He spaces out once more. . flashing back to the time when he was a child and snuck eat candy behind his father's back.

Luella became concerned after a while. "Mr. Wonka?" She snapped her fingers once more. And when he got out of his flashback, she asked: "You alright?"

"Yeah, sorry. . Just had a flashback." He grinned.

"I see. . " Luella nodded, and smiled back.

"Do these flashbacks happen often?" Mr. Teevee asked, tilting his head a bit.

"Increasingly. . today." Wonka nodded and kept on walking, the group followed after him.
