Another day and Olivia still hadn't heard from Matty. She was beginning to lose all hope of ever hearing from him again. She didn't want to admit it but she missed him. If he were to text her or show up, apologising to her, she was sure that she would take him back in an instant. She missed laughing with him, talking with him. She even missed his hugs but life had to continue.

She plopped herself down on the all too familiar couch and switched the TV on, flicking through the channels in search of finding something to watch. She needed a distraction from everything that was going on in her life. Or, more specifically, she needed a distraction to stop her thinking about Matty.

Just as Olivia was getting into watching re-runs of Pretty Little Liars, she heard a knock on the door. She had absolutely no idea who would be silly enough to go out in the current weather. It was tipping it down with rain and Olivia had been convinced that she had heard some thunder to go along with it.

Hesitantly, she got up off the couch and made her way to the front door. Olivia couldn't lie, she was nervous to see who or what was on the other side of the door. Ava was out, spending time with her girlfriend meaning that the brunette was left home alone.

When Olivia finally opened the door, she was met with a somewhat pleasant surprise. On her doorstep, drenched to the bone was none other than Matty Cash. The guy that she hadn't seen for weeks.

She stood with her arms crossed over her chest, trying to look somewhat intimidating but also trying to warm up from the cold air that was flooding into her house. Matty looked up at her, trying to keep the droplets of rain out of his eyes. It had been weeks since he had last seen her but his memory had served him well. She was just as beautiful as he had remembered.

"What are you doing here, Matty? You couldn't have even sent me a text and now you're showing up on my doorstep in the middle of a storm?" Although Olivia had convinced herself that she would take Matty back in a heartbeat, seeing him standing on her front doorstep brought up a lot of anger that she had pushed down inside of her.

Matty took a step forward, finding himself right on the verge of the front entrance to the house. He didn't dare try to get inside although he did take a deep breath and prepared himself for what he was about to say. Matty wasn't stupid, he knew that this was potentially his last chance with Olivia and he was determined not to blow it. Matty knew that he was lucky to even have the privilege of standing in front of her and getting the chance to explain everything to her.

"I'm sorry, Olive-" He started but she didn't give him much of a chance to continue because before he even had a chance to finish his sentence, Olivia cut him off.

"I'm kind of finished with people disappointing me at the moment so you can save your apology for another time." The brunette girl shrugged her shoulders at him and got ready to shut the door on the man who she had once been so fond of.

"Wait! Olive, please. Hear me out. If you still hate me by the end of it then you'll never have to see me again." Matty pleaded and that was what got Olivia's attention.

She was willing to hear him out. She wanted to hear what he had to say to her and maybe she was being stupid but some part of her was hopeful that after she heard him out that they would be able to amend their relationship. She wanted them to at least be friends.

"I am so incredibly sorry about Friday. I was an idiot," Matty admitted, the rain still hammering down on him. Olivia listened intently, not wanting to miss a single word of what he was saying.

"I'll admit, moving to Birmingham, I was a mess. I had no idea what I was doing, if I was going to regret it. Was I throwing away my career at Forest? But then I met you that night at the club. You're the only memory I have of that night. You and your beauty. You approached me with your crazy plan and I knew that I couldn't resist. That was the moment that I knew everything was going to be worth it. Even if I had made the biggest mistake of my career, it had lead me to you." Matty finished speaking and without even a second of hesitation, Olivia stepped forward and crashed her lips against his.

Matty was shocked. He hadn't expected that at all. He expected her to shout at him, tell him to go away and never talk to her again but she hadn't. Instead, she had kissed him and so he snaked his arms around her waist and kissed her back, the rain still beating down on them both.

"I'm glad to have you back," Olivia whispered once they pulled away, her arms still around his neck as she felt her hair stick to her forehead. He lifted his hand from her waist and tucked it behind her ear, smiling as he did so. He believed that he was the luckiest man alive to be able to have Olivia Hale back in his arms.

"I love you, Olive." He whispered and hearing the words made Olivia feel warm and fuzzy inside.

"I love you too, Matty." She brought up the nickname and although she hated it as much as the nickname that he had given her, it was only fair to see him squirm as much as she was.

Despite the rain and the cool air, Olivia felt whole again. The hole in her heart had been filled and it was all down to Matty Cash. She had him back but this time, it was for real.

note from e !

And they're back! But for real this time! What's more romantic than a kiss in the rain, huh? I love them so much. Matty had some serious grovelling to do but I'm so glad that they're back and actually together this time. Fake relationships are one of my favourite tropes.

What's your favourite trope?
- Best friends to lovers and fake dating are probably my top two but I love a bit of brother's best friend or best friend's brother vibes.

And my football related question: what's one signing you want your club to make this summer?
- I just want Will Fish back to Hibs. He was honestly amazing and there was a lot of talk about it before the window opened but it's all gone quiet now which is scary :( from an Aston Villa perspective, we've signed Tielemans and probably Pau Torres and I would love for them to get Harvey Barnes! Maybe John McGinn can convince him to play for Scotland then.

Enjoy and stay safe!

Lots of love, e x
