With still a few days before practice was even to begin in Monaco, Pierre and Charles had decided to throw a party for Camille's birthday. It was to be a closed party, something that both men knew would be appreciated by the youngest of the trio. Although Camille loved a party, she would hate for it to be wild.
Charles, with his Monegasque connections, had managed to hire out a venue perfect for the occasion. Not too big but big enough and spacious enough for everyone to be comfortable.
Charles wanted to make Camille's twenty-third birthday special. It would be the first one that they had spent together for nearly ten years. They might not be sticking to the pact, but Charles had to make it one to remember so everything had to be perfect. That included the cake that he was in the process of baking. Having followed a strict recipe without a single error, all that was left to do was decorate it. However, there was no tutorial for beginners so he turned to his loving mother who had been more than happy to help her son. The Leclerc family had known the Gasly's for many years. They had gone on several family holidays together and followed both Pierre and Charles around various countries for competitions. Charles' mother had always been aware of his soft spot for Camille and she couldn't think of anyone better for her son, so when he came to her, asking for help to decorate a cake he had made for Camille's birthday, she knew that Charles was in love. Charles would only attempt such a thing for someone he cared deeply for, considering that baking was not one of his many talents.
The party kicked off later that same night and after many hours of dancing with mostly Pierre and Daniel, Camille retreated the outdoor deck. She was greeted by the cool air that she welcomed with open arms, allowing it to cool her down. The sound of the waves crashing against the stilts that supported the deck was something that Camille loved. Monaco had always been one of her favourite places to visit when she was younger. She wasn't sure if it was to do with how luxurious it was, the breathtaking views or if it was everything to do with a certain Monagasque.
The blonde fell back into the comfortable outdoor couch and let a sigh escape from her lips.
"I thought you'd be inside, partying." Charles spoke as he took a seat beside her, taking in the views of his beloved Monaco.
"I'll have plenty time to party, I just wanted a moment, you know?" Camille started, closing her eyes for a brief moment as she allowed the evening air to brush against her face and push her hair back.
"But why aren't you inside partying, Charles?" She turned to the Monegasque, giving him one of her signature, mischievous smiles that he knew all too well. Camille was daring him to answer. What reason could he have to possibly be missing out on the fun indoors to be with her?
"Do you remember that pact we made on your thirteenth birthday?" Charles asked, his voice shaky. The Monegasque had avoided the question that had originally been posed to him. He didn't know why he had brought it up and he had no idea how Camille would react to the memory. He was taking a risk and he could only hope that it would pay off.
"I do." Camille smiled, thinking back to how silly they had been. It was a stupid pact to make and she didn't expect Charles to keep his word.
The pair sat in silence for a few moments, allowing the world to pass by. Camille's curiosity was beginning to get the better of her. Why had Charles even brought up the pact? It was in the past now and although tonight was the night that would determine if the pact was to be kept or not, Camille thought it was pointless bringing it up. Just as she was about to open her mouth and press him further on the topic, Charles started to speak once again.
"At the party in Monza, you told me that you loved me when you were thirteen. I didn't bring it up because I didn't want to make things awkward and you didn't remember it anyway but some part of me has gone over every single scenario since then," Charles started, his attention still on the water. He couldn't bear to look at Camille as he spoke his true feelings. He didn't want to see the look of rejection on her face. He didn't want to see their friendship be destroyed all because he couldn't keep his feelings to himself.
"I thought about if I had just admitted to being in love with you when we were kids but then I realised that we would probably have broken up now because of something stupid. Then I thought about why you even told me. Was it just the alcohol or did some of those feelings linger?" Camille listened intently to what Charles was saying. She wasn't quite sure which direction he was going with his speech but she could only hope that it was going where she wanted it to.
The butterflies in her stomach started to flutter as she thought about where this conversation could be going. The butterflies were never ever really gone if Charles was around but they were far more active now.
"I think I want to keep the pact. If that's okay with you. I want to give you the kiss on your twenty-third birthday like I promised." He admitted, finally turning to look at the blonde beauty sitting beside him.
Without a second of hesitation, she grabbed his face and pressed her lips against his. Her body felt like it was on fire. Every single piece of her burned and yearned for Charles Leclerc. His hands pulled her body closer to his as he felt the desire to be as close to her as physically possible.
Camille had dreamt of this moment for years. At first, it was a silly crush, something that she should have gotten over when she had her first boyfriend, her second boyfriend and her third boyfriend but she was never able to fully give herself to them because Charles Leclerc was always in the back of her mind.
"We kept to the pact, Charles." Camille said with a smile as she pulled away to fill her lungs with air.
"I'm in love with you." Was his reply and Camille couldn't believe her ears. Had Charles Leclerc actually just confessed his love to her?
"I'm in love with you too." She replied with possibly the largest grin on her face that Charles had ever seen. Even bigger than the one that crossed her face when they made the pact in the first place.
As the evening went on, Camille found herself to be tucked into Charles' side, receiving small kisses from him every so often. In all honesty, she couldn't think of a better way to spend her birthday.
"What about Pierre?" Charles finally asked, oblivious to the fact that Pierre had been guarding the door to the deck for the past few hours. Any time someone tried to get outside, he would redirect them back inside.
Pierre had always been insightful and he knew his younger sister better than anyone else. In fact, Camille thought that he knew her better than she knew herself. He had known about her crush on Charles before she did and only a fool would fail to recognise how in love his best friend on the grid was.
"You don't need to worry, he already knows." She sighed in content and allowed herself to fall asleep in his arms. She just hoped that when she woke up, it wouldn't all be a dream.
note from e !
Eeeeekkkk! It's finally happened! Camille and Charles, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G! I know that I've made you all wait soooo long for this and I'm so sorry but I hope the wait was worth it.
In all honesty, I've been finding it really difficult to update recently because Wattpad has a glitch at the moment that is affecting media and the format/layout of chapters which can be quite annoying. I don't think it's fixed yet but I'm trying to work around it.
How is tonight's race?
- I haven't actually been watching it. I just have too much work to do at the moment in regards to my thesis so I completely forgot about it and Ferrari and Xavi have not motivated me to watch it either 😔.
Enjoy and stay safe!
Lots of love, e x
