━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━───────
Camille Gasly sat beside her favourite Monegasque as the screeching of his Sharpie danced across each sheet of paper, it being the only noise to fill the awkward silence.
Since Camille's arrival, the two former best friends had been spending as much time together as possible in an effort to restore their friendship. However, a ten year gap was not easy to ignore. It was constantly playing on their minds as they tried to start up conversations about topics they had once been interested in. Despite all the time spent together and trying to act as if nothing had changed, their relationship was taking much longer to fix than initially anticipated. The pair had been thirteen and fourteen respectively when they last saw each other. Now, at the ages of twenty three and twenty four, they had no idea how to act around each other. Every time Camille laid a hand on Charles' shoulder or leaned in close when taking a selfie, his body tensed and the atmosphere became awkward and clammy.
"Charles," Camille called, hoping to get his attention. He had been adding his signature to thousands of pieces of paper all afternoon and if he was the same as the fourteen year old boy she once knew, then Charles would be needing a break round about now.
"Charles," she tried again, his attention not being torn away from the task at hand. Patiently waiting a few more seconds, Charles' hand began to cramp up and so he was forced to drop his pen to the table. The Sharpie clattered before the room fell completely silent and Charles turned his attention to the girl that say beside him.
He wanted things to go back to the way that they once were but he knew that it was going to be tricky.
"Can we talk?" She asked. This was the first time since their reunion that Charles had heard Camille's tone become serious. He could see the pain that was in her face and a look of regret that he wished would go away. Charles didn't want to be reminded of what could have been if he had been more considerate. If he had just sent her a text message asking to meet up or visited Pierre in hopes of seeing her or even tried to reunite with her after five years, not wait until ten years had passed.
"I miss us, Charles. What happened? We don't even know each other anymore." Camille spoke, her voice wavering towards the end of her sentence. She felt her blue eyes start to water and so she let her blonde locks fall around her face to protect her vulnerability from the man that once knew all of her deepest and darkest secrets.
Charles racked his brain, looking for an answer to Camille's question but he was lost. He had no answer. It had simply been two cases of carelessness. They each heard how the other was doing through Pierre and left it at that. If only they had taken five minutes out of their days to talk every so often.
The driver had no idea what he had missed with Camille. Did she ever get a new maths tutor? Did she get her year abroad in Norway? Who was her first boyfriend and did he break her heart?
Without a second thought, Charles leaned forward and pulled the girl into the tightest, most bone crushing hug she had ever experienced. Despite the struggle to breathe and the feeling of her bones slowly but surely snapping in to, the hug was the best thing that she had felt in a long time. Sure, Pierre's hugs were great but nothing could ever top a hug from Charles Leclerc.
"I've missed you." He mumbled into her hair, taking in the familiar scent of the coconut shampoo that she still used all these years later.
"I've missed you too." Camille felt a single tear drop fall from her eye and soak its way through Charles' Ferrari polo. There would never be enough words in French or English for her to be able to explain just how much she had missed having her best friend over the past ten years. She had had a gaping hole left in her heart and as the years went on, the hole only got bigger. But now, it was finally on the mend.
As the pair pulled away from each other, they started to discuss the many changes in their lives that had occurred during their ten year absence. Charles continued to sign his autograph as he spoke and Camille rested her head on his lap, listening to every last word.
note from e !
Hello! I'm with another update and I love that these two are back on good terms again. This was supposed to be uploaded yesterday but I forgot. I got distracted by Charles winning and it was so hot that I think my brain went to mush but better late than never.
Before I get into things, I want to say thank you all so much for over 1k reads already! That's honestly so crazy to me and I appreciate it so much. I love you all <3
I unfortunate didn't get to see all of the race yesterday and I had to watch it with no sound (I feel like this made the race more bearable because I didn't know about Charles' throttle problem but I was massively panicking about Carlos). It was definitely eventful, that's for sure!
Anyway, how was everyone's weekend?
- I went to a Hibs game! It was our first competitive match of the season and I got to meet Kevin Nisbet and Demetri Mitchell (if you haven't already heard) and we won 5-0 so pretty good if you ask me!
Enjoy and stay safe!
Lots of love, e x
