AS JUNE STORMED THROUGH THE WOODS, SHE TRIED TO KEEP HER MIND OFF RAVEN AND FINN. He had done something wrong, clearly, but she didn't know the whole story. Plus, it didn't involve her in any way. It still left her curious, though, as she eyed the back of Finn's head. He didn't take off his wristband when Clarke reminded him that the people he loves will think he's dead, that is, up until Monty accidentally fried them all. He had to have believed that Raven would be alive and might make it down to the ground for a reunion, which is why June was trying to understand what he was thinking when he messed around with Clarke.
But as always, there were more important matters at hand than worrying about some relationship issues. Such as, contacting The Ark so they didn't think they were all dead and died of oxygen deprivation. June fumed each time she thought of Bellamy stealing the radio, being so selfish and reckless as to convince delinquents to take their wristband off - some even by force, including her, and then steal the radio in Raven's pod. As far as June thought, Bellamy only cared for himself.
It was difficult, considering June didn't have anyone who cared about her on The Ark. Her mother had died during childbirth, and her father fell into a pretty deep hole after that, eventually leading up to him being floated. Wells and Clarke were her only family, but she still cared for the people left in space. Earth was there home, and they belonged here as much as the delinquents did, especially with their threat.
Heavy footsteps caught June's attention. She turned her head, her blonde hair flying to the side, and saw Bellamy striding through the woods with his back turned to the rest of them. "Hey!" Clarke called out, storming forward and grabbing his attention. "Where is it?!"
At the question, Bellamy whirled around, holding his hands up with an amused look plastered on his face. "Hey, princess," he greeted Clarke. "You taking a walk in the woods?"
Ignoring Bellamy's entertained appearance, Clarke glared at him before speaking. "They're getting ready to kill three hundred people up there to save oxygen," she firmly said. "And I can guarantee you it won't be council members. It'll be working people." She tapped his chest harshly. "Your people."
Without giving Bellamy a chance to respond, Finn suddenly lurched forward and gave him a very harsh shove. "Where's the radio?" He demanded.
Retaliating with another push, Bellamy shot a scowl to Finn. "I have no idea what you're talking about," he lied.
"Bellamy!" June exclaimed in frustration. There was no time to deny and argue with one another, not with lives at stake back in The Ark. "Did you not hear Clarke?! We need to know where that radio is, now."
Raising her eyebrows when June said his name, Raven looked from her to Bellamy with a smug expression. "Bellamy Blake?" She asked. "Oh, they're looking everywhere for you.." She trailed off.
"Shut up," Bellamy warned lowly.
Clarke's blue eyes darted back and forth, unsure of what Raven meant. "Looking for him?" She repeated. "Why?"
"He shot Chancellor Jaha," Raven informed them, tilting her head.
Feeling her jaw drop in shock, June stared Bellamy down. She knew he held a hatred for The Ark, especially the ones in charge, even taking out that fury on Wells, but to resort to murder was a move she hadn't expected. She could only compare it to when he hung Murphy, knowing that she could tack 'killer' to Bellamy's list of traits. June shook her head, feeling disgusted and unable to even look at him.
"That's why you took the wristbands," Clarke says in realization but looking at him incredulously. "Needed everyone to think we're dead."
"All that 'whatever the hell we want'? You just care about saving your own skin," Finn added, left in disbelief by Raven's statement.
"Why aren't we surprised," June said with a scoff.
Instead of defending himself, Bellamy rolled his eyes before pushing past the group circling him and storming off. Infuriated, Raven followed him, her fists clenched at her sides. "Hey! Shooter! Where's my radio?" She shouted before moving in front of him.
"Get out of my way," Bellamy demanded, attempting to ignore her.
"Where is it?"
Bellamy suddenly stopped, nearly face to face with Raven now. "I should've killed you when I had the chance." The threat had June stop in her tracks, unsure if he'd strive to kill Raven to save himself. She didn't see any fear on Raven's face, though.
"Really?" Raven dared in a low, bold sneer. "Well, I'm right here.."
All of a sudden, Bellamy had grabbed Raven by the neck and threw her against a tree, keeping his hand firmly in place as she remained pinned. June took a single step forward, but before she could say a word, Raven had pulled out a knife and pointed it in his direction as she glared darkly. "Where's my radio?" She repeats, this time threatening.
Nobody moved for a few seconds. June finally broke the silence, having been fed up. "That's enough," she declared, stepping in between them to break up the feud. "Stop it."
Bellamy held one last glare with Raven before he dropped his hand and released her before backing away. "Jaha deserved to die," he stated. "You all know that." June wanted to roll her eyes from the carelessness. Even if Jaha wasn't the best leader or individual, he didn't deserve what Bellamy did to him.
"Yeah," Raven shortly agreed. "He's not my favorite person either, but he isn't dead."
"He isn't?" June questioned in surprise, deeply thinking of Wells, at the same time Bellamy picked his head up with a hopeful look in his eye.
Raven nodded back. "He's a lousy shot."
Approaching Bellamy closer, Clarke kept her head tilted back to stare at him with determination. "Bellamy, don't you see what this means?" She asked softly. "You're not a murderer." June would disagree, but she kept quiet for the sake of The Ark. "You always did what you had to do to protect your sister. That's who you are. And you can do it again by protecting three hundred of your people." Bellamy grew a tender expression at the mention of his sister, almost slowly buying Clarke's genuine words. "Where's the radio?" She finished in question.
With a blank face, Bellamy shook his head in defeat before informing them all; "It's too late."
━━━━━━━━
Water sloshed around June's ankles, wetting her boots as she wandered through the short waves of the lake. She didn't know what she was expecting by Bellamy's answer, but hearing that he threw the last hope The Ark had in the lake wasn't shocking. She had been studying the clear water, hoping to see the mechanical box, but only saw rocks and leaves. June wished that by some miracle Earth had computers, knowing that was her best skill. She could even use it to possibly get in contact with The Ark, especially with a mechanic here now. She felt useless without them.
Sighing to herself, June picked her head back up, glancing over her shoulder to see Bellamy crouched on the grass. She tried not to pay attention or get lost, and focus on the search. How regretful he felt wasn't important, what mattered more was where they were now and how they could avoid The Ark killing three-hundred people for oxygen. June paced through the water again, feeling her boots and lower pants stick to her skin.
Fortunately, their search came to a halt when a delinquent, Jones, called out to the others. "Hey! I found it!" The announcement caught June's attention and she tried to think positive musings as she dashed towards him, making water splash around lightly.
"How is it?" June asked once she was close enough to the huddling group, panting slightly.
"Can you fix it?" Clarke wondered aloud.
The radio in Raven's hands tipped as she observed it, and June felt her heart drop when watching water pour from the side. Raven picked out wet leaves, disappointed at the sight. "Maybe," she finally responded. "But it'll take half the day just to dry out the components to see what's broken."
"Like I said," Bellamy spoke up from the distance. "It's too late." He sounded insensitive towards the situation they were stuck in, caused by him.
While June was just as angry, Clarke expressed it by marching towards him. "Do you have any idea what you did?!" She demanded out loud. "Do you even care?!"
"You asked me to help," Bellamy argued. "I helped."
Furious, Clarke continued her accusations of well points. "Three hundred people are gonna die today because of you!"
"Clarke - " June outstretched her hand, gripping her friend's lower arm to keep her from getting any closer. "Leave it. He knows. We have to find another way," she said, determined.
From behind them, Raven grabbed their focus by approving June's will to resolve this. "June's right," she inputted. "We don't have to talk to The Ark, right? We just have to let them know we're down here," she pointed out, seemingly hit with a large wave of an idea.
"Yeah," Finn responded from beside Raven, a bit confused by his girlfriend's eagerness. "But how do we do that with no radio?" A light bulb was definitely flickering over Raven's head as she slowly grinned. The single smile gave June a glimmer of hope, leaving her prepared to do whatever they had to for The Ark to know they're alive.
━━━━━━━━
Raven's idea was brilliant, and despite June hardly knowing her, she was swollen with pride and proudness. She's smart, and June's glad to have her on Earth with them. They, as in all the delinquents, worked together to pull through with the idea. Flares would be built together with parts from the dropship and the pod dropped and would be set off to the sky as a signal. Soon, The Ark would know that the delinquents they sent to die were really alive.
Raven was throwing orders, moving in circles around her pod to the delinquents all hard at work with individual jobs. "We need to launch those flares ASAP if we have any hope of saving those people," she claimed. "Finn, get that control panel to camp." Finn nodded, quickly moving to do so. "You, pull out those fire circuits in one piece of they won't work." June, assuming it was her who she was speaking to, reached out. But just as the tips of her fingers brushed against it, Raven quickly stopped her. "Hold on, June. Can I have a hand?" She requested.
Nodding, almost tense, June took a single step towards her. She wished a black hole would open and suck her away when she tumbled, her boot getting caught behind her other foot, and would have fell face-first into the ground if it wasn't for Raven moving quickly to grasp her arm. "Woah, you okay?" She questioned worriedly, helping June steady.
June felt her face flare-up from being embarrassed at her clumsiness and quickly bobbed her head. "I'm fine," she dismissed quickly.
Smiling, Raven passed her a rusted wrench. "Here. Work these bolts gently," she instructed, directing June to a panel. "Rocket fuel likes to go boom. We're gonna need power to fire," she explained as June went to work. She watched for a moment, crouched, before speaking again. "I heard you're a technician."
June paused for a second, picking her head up. "From Clarke?" She asked, making Raven nod in response. "Oh. Well, yeah... I, um, I prefer hacker," she joked, trying to cover the stammer in her voice from stumbling over her words.
"Hacker?" Raven repeated, almost curious. "Is that what you got arrested for?"
The memory hit June like a ton of bricks, remembering the flames that were caused by her and Wells teaming up together to earn a spot on the dropship. She bit her lower lip before shaking her head while focusing back on tightening the bolts. "No," she finally responded. "It was something else." Changing the topic, June cleared her throat. "So, will The Ark really see these flares clearly if we get the rockets to launch?" She questioned, unsure if space would be able to catch a glimpse of their signal.
"Have some faith, like the good book says," Raven encouraged. "It's all about burn time and cloud cover. But I'm sure they'll be watching," she stated, nearly insisting.
June had no choice but to believe Raven, she thought strongly. When night came, the rockets were being clamped into their launchers to prepare for set off. June felt as if she was racing against time, knowing that it was limited. Raven had said they only had a day left, and it was almost up. She felt herself go quicker, pitching in until it was done in a declaration by the mechanic and they backed up to a safer distance to watch.
As the rockets blasted off, June watched in amazement as they turned in a fiery purple while they launched upwards. They were beautiful and bright, and although she wanted to center her racing thoughts on the hope that The Ark would see them, June couldn't help but notice how appealingly delightful they were to watch as the vibrant colors exploded in the sky.
Wanting to know if anyone else was thinking the same, June turned her head to one side. Clarke was resided beside Bellamy, discussing shooting stars. She felt a smile appear as she turned her head again, this time seeing Raven tucked warmly under Finn's arm that was draped over her shoulder. She tried to remain smiling, hoping Raven, or anyone for that matter, wouldn't be able to tell different.
