THE ARK'S SKY BOX. PRESENT DAY.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
JUNE COULDN'T POSSIBLY IMAGINE WHAT IT WAS LIKE FOR MOST OF THE DELINQUENTS WHO HAD BEEN IN LOCK-UP FOR EITHER YEARS OR MONTHS. She had only been in the room for a day, granted, some had a roommate, but she was still bored with her thoughts. They hadn't put her in a room with someone, for whatever reason she hadn't cared. Maybe they were too close to the time they were being dropped. All she knew that they would prepare to send the delinquents to Earth any time now by the information on Jaha's files, so instead June had opted for leaning against the cell wall with her hands on her knees.
Already June was missing the outside. She had only visited the Sky Box once, with Wells, both hoping to see Clarke but were only informed that the girl was in solitary and unable to take visitors. She knew that she and Wells had taken a big risk in setting the tree on fire, but with the knowledge of being sent to Earth was much more worth it. Clarke was being sent down there, and knowing Wells, he'd follow her anywhere. June couldn't bare losing both of her friends, whether they'd die or not. If they were going to be sent to their deaths, her stubborn attitude told her that she was too.
Suddenly, the door to June's cell door slid open. She perked up when noticing that it was two guards, one armed with an electric baton and the other holding a large metal case. She grinned, realizing it was time and that she was more than ready for this. "June Thompson, Prisoner 266, stand up and face the wall," the one armed ordered.
Rising to her feet, June complied with the command and spun until she was facing the wall. "So, what're your plans for Earth?" She questioned as her arm was roughly grabbed. It was left unanswered, as they clasped a band onto her arm that made her hiss in pain when feeling pins puncture her skin. One of the guards roughly grabbed June's upper arm and began to pull her out of her cell. "Hey, chill out!" June exclaimed, stumbling to keep up. "I'm not going to fight. I got arrested for a reason."
The words fell deaf on the guard's ears, who only hauled June to the section. She glanced around, seeing that delinquents were fighting back against the guards who dragged them from their cells and shouting in demand to know what was going on. She sighed, upset that they were being left clueless. The council wouldn't tell them anything and were about to send a hundred confused and scared teenagers to their deaths with no explanation. It wasn't fair, or right, June thought as she was led towards the exit that the other's were all being tugged to.
What June was wearing had been looked over for a minute, before she was being handed a dark jacket. She slung it over her shoulders, pushing her arms through the holes. She was led forward to where the delinquents were being lined up, awaiting their next command. After a quick scan around, June didn't notice either Wells or Clarke to be seen anywhere close. She shook her head, figuring she'd see them soon, one way or another.
One of the guards up ahead shouted for them to start moving. In a single-file line, they paced forward, June sucking in a deep breath as they neared an opening. She peeked over the shoulder of the girl in front of her, figuring that this was how they were going to be sent down to Earth. In an old dropship, leaving their fate up to the rusty ancient ship that could kill them when landing if the radiation didn't. When entering, June was directed to the ladder, told to climb up it and find a seat.
The old ladder creaked as June climbed up it, one foot after the other as she pulled herself up. It took a minute, as she balanced herself onto her feet before she looked around. Suddenly, a familiar face within her direction. Wells Jaha, sitting upright and buckled into one of the many seats. June had immediately grinned, ignoring the guard attempting to direct her to a different seat, and quickly plopping herself in the seat next to his. "Hey, long time, no see."
June's greeting caught Wells's attention and he whipped his head to the side to see his close friend before smiling back. "Yeah, I'd say so," he agreed. "Buckle in." June shrugged before adjusting herself and pulling the red straps over her shoulders. She took a few deep breaths to tell herself to stay calm, knowing there was no going back and she was heading into a life or death situation with people she barely knew; all dangerous criminals.
A limp person was being carried on a stretcher, and after craning her neck, June caught a glimpse of who it was. She breathed a sigh of relief as the guard's propped Clarke Griffin into the seat on the other side of Wells, buckling her in themselves. "You think she put up a fight?" June asked after they were gone, watching as Clarke's head lolled to the side.
Wells smiled fondly for a moment, as all the guard's left the dropship and the door sealed shut. "I know she did."
June gripped the seat straps as the dropship began shaking violently before feeling the heavy weight of a pressure as they fell. She sucked in a deep breath, feeling panicked for a moment, and reminded herself who she was doing this for. Wells, Clarke, and to help the other delinquents if by some miracle they survived this. June allowed her legs to dangle loosely, noticing that finally, Clarke was stirring awake with a wince.
"Welcome back," Wells addressed her. While June expected Clarke to be ecstatic, excited even to see both of her friends, she instead scowled deeply. Wells grimaced before speaking again, but was quickly cut off.
"Wells, why the hell are you here?" Clarke snapped, demanding to know.
"Woah," June interrupted calmly, ignoring the rattling dropship they were in. "Calm down, Clarke."
"We got ourselves arrested for a reason," Wells stated, hoping it would change the glare on Clarke's face. "I came for you." While the blonde still looked angry, her eyes widened a bit in surprise at Wells admission.
Touched at Wells softness, June glanced away to hide her smile. He was such a good person, with his heart in the right place, especially for Clarke who wasn't appreciating what he's done for her. Her attention moved to the screen above them that flickered a few times before Chancellor Jaha's face appeared and he began his speech. "Prisoners of The Ark, hear me now. You've been given a second chance, and as your Chancellor, it is my hope that you see this as not just a chance for you, but a chance for all of us, indeed for mankind itself." June paid attention closely, hoping he would move past pretending to care and say something important. "We have no idea what is waiting for you down there. If the odds of survival were better, we would've sent others. Frankly, we're sending you because your crimes have made you.." He hesitated before finishing. "Expendable."
There was a bunch of shouting in the distance, empty threats and booing before one male called out towards June's friend. "Your dad's a dick, Wells!"
Wells visibly tensing didn't go unnoticed by June. She glared, turning her head to look over her shoulder. "Shut up!" She shouted back in warning, only receiving an echo of laughter in return. She rolled her eyes, forcing herself to look back at the screen and continue listening to Jaha again.
"Those crimes will be forgiven, your records wiped clean," Jaha promised. "The drop sight has been chosen carefully. Before the last war, Mount Weather was a military base built within a mountain. It was to be stocked with enough non-perishables to sustain three hundred people for up to two years." June repeated the words 'Mount Weather' repeatedly in her head, keeping the words in her memory, knowing how important the place must be for survival if he was mentioning it.
Suddenly, June couldn't hear what Jaha was saying over the cheering of delinquents. Before June could question why, she saw a figure moving in the atmosphere, floating on gravity with fun backflips. "Spacewalk bandit strikes again!" Someone called, urging the floater to casually lay on his back and float in front of Clarke. She recognized him immediately when he turned his head as Finn Collins, the boy who wasted an entire month of The Ark's oxygen to take a spacewalk for fun.
"Check it out," Finn greeted, grinning at Wells. "Your dad floated me, after all." Wells cleared his throat, ignoring the statement about his father before advising Finn to strap back in, who only chose to ignore him carelessly.
"Get back in your seat!" June exclaimed, leaning forward when alarmed as she was seeing two more boys starting to unbuckle themselves to float as well. They were all going to get hurt, or worse, die. The dropship wasn't made to protect them, she hardly knew if the seatbelts would be enough to hold them down during the rough landing.
As if June wasn't there, Finn averted his focus to Clarke, making her huff in annoyance. "Hey, you're the traitor who's been in solitary for a year," he pointed out with a smug expression.
"You're the idiot who wasted a month of oxygen on an illegal spacewalk," Clarke shot back.
Grinning, Finn crossed his arms over his chest. "But it was fun," he declared boldly before introducing himself. "I'm Finn."
Before Clarke's attitude could fire back, the dropship began violently shaking. June let out a shout of surprise, grasping her straps as Finn was flung to the side. The two boys who had followed in his footsteps were thrown into poles that blew a steam, and sparks flew out, making the frightened girl hold her arms over her head to shield herself from the sparks. She wanted to scream in terror, scared as she slowly peeked up, knowing this landing wasn't going to be any better.
"Everything on this ship is a hundred years old, right?!" Clarke called out over the shouts and rattling. "Just give it a minute."
"A minute?!" June repeated incredulously. "We'll all be dead any second!"
Realizing that June was most likely right, Wells turned towards Clarke, desperate. "Clarke, there's something I have to tell you. I'm sorry I got your father arrested!" At the mention of Jake Griffin's death, June was confused, not knowing it was Wells of all people who had turned him in. It wasn't like him.
Angry, Clarke's head whipped around and she gave him a warning look. "Don't you talk about my father!"
"Please!" Wells begged. "I can't die knowing that you hate me!"
"They didn't arrest my father, Wells, they executed him!" Clarke shouted back. "I do hate you!"
There was suddenly a violent lurch, and June gritted her teeth, knowing this wasn't currently a good time. "Now is not the time to argue!" She cut in, stopping the pair before there was one last crashing sound and everything stopped. She breathed out slowly, panting and glancing around to watch the lights flickering on and off before steadying. They landed, June thought to herself. At least they made it this far.
Unbuckling her seatbelt, June flung the red strap aside and braced herself on her feet. She watched as Clarke dashed towards the direction of one of the males who had hit the wall after floating, shaking her head when seeing the hurt look on Wells's face before resting her hand gently on his shoulder. She didn't know that Wells had turned in Jake Griffin, and was surprised by it at the least, but was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. "Hey, she'll come around," she assured him, figuring they'd hopefully have a better chance to talk if they made it. Clarke has been in lock-up since her father's death, which didn't give him any chances to explain himself.
There was a bunch of shouting from the downstairs level, catching June's attention, but unable to make out the muffled words. "No, we can't just open the doors!" Clarke exclaimed, rushing towards the ladder.
June shrugged, grasping Wells's upper arm and tugging him with her. "Come on, we got to keep an eye on her before she gets in trouble." She pulled her friend to the ladder before crawling down it after a few delinquents, landing on her feet just in time to hear Clarke arguing with a male too old to be a delinquent with his hand on the lever.
After Wells supported himself when following June, an attractive girl with long chestnut hair and sharp features made her way down the ladder before calling out softly. "Bellamy?"
The male in the guard's uniform, Bellamy, perked up at the noise and turned around as the girl bounced onto the dropship floor and pushed her way to the front. "My God," he exhaled. "Look how big you are." He was soon embraced, and June felt her heart warm as she tilted her head, despite not recognizing either of them, she found the moment to be special.
As the two conversed for a minute, Clarke noticed something. "Where's your wristband?" She spoke up, making June's eyes dart towards Bellamy's hand, unable to see any silver band like everyone else.
"Do you mind?" The pretty girl retorted, whirling around with a scowl. "I haven't seen my brother in a year."
"No one has a brother," someone in the crowd murmured.
"That's Octavia Blake!" Someone else exclaimed in explanation. "The girl they found hidden under the floor!" June's eyes widened in surprise, knowing that she heard the rumor from a year ago, but nothing was ever confirmed.
At the mention of her past, Octavia lurched forward, ready to fight them but Bellamy quickly caught her. "Octavia, no!" He protested, pulling her back. "Let's give them something else to remember you by."
"Yeah?" Octavia asked with a scoff. "Like what?"
"Like being the first person on the ground in a hundred years," Bellamy told her, making Octavia grin and give him a nod.
June felt her breath hitch as Bellamy put his hand back on the lever. This was it, the moment she's been waiting for since handing Wells a box of matches she snatched. It was the time to know whether or not Earth was survivable, and if they'd possibly make it, she thought as the lever was pulled down swiftly.
The door to the dropship slowly fell open. When it did, June squeezed her eyes shut and held her breath, expecting to be hit with radiation. Instead, she felt nothing but fresh air filling her lungs as she inhaled and finally opened her eyes. A bright sunlight immediately hit her, and she grinned, gasping in amazement as Octavia wandered forward before jumping on the ground. It was so green outside, so beautiful, and June could hardly wait after being in space for so long. The image June's always dreamt of was finally here, and she was seconds away from living it.
Full of adrenaline and excitement, Octavia extracted her fists in the air and screamed out; "We're back, bitches!" She threw her hands forward, urging the other delinquents to follow her.
The others were cheering, electrified as they all sprinted forward to be on Earth. June didn't have to hesitate any longer. She's been waiting long enough for this moment. "Let's go!" She exclaimed when noticing Wells's hesitation, grasping his wrist and forcing him to follow her down the dropship door. She only released it when hopping off, feeling her boots press against the grass.
Chest heaving, June practically spun around, letting her brown eyes fall on every bit of Earth. From the trees, to odd colored flowers, and to the amazingly bright yellow sun beating on her. The teenager let out a laugh, and she realized, she was more than glad she hacked into Chancellor Jaha's computer and set fire to The Ark's tree. It really was all worth it.
