"just coffee, no cream, one sugar" oikawa repeated his order before taking out his wallet and counting the coins that he had. not like he didn't have money to buy a simple coffee, he simply refused to talk large sums with him - especially this late at night. his wallet in general was rather empty, housing some coins and a gift card for two free tacos.
why was he walking late at night again? ah yes, to get some fresh air, to get his mind off of studies and relax, even if it's just for a few minutes. with a hot coffee cup, he headed out for the nearest bench. law, law, law, law - his mind was still buzzing about it. his third year in university proved to be more stressful than ever, he was already trying to plan his final work, his thesis which he will present in order to get his bachelors degree, but... what should he do?
this was bugging him. his mind was empty, while everyone else had already chosen their topics. he was planning to do something with corruption or money laundering, but those topics are not only dangerous, but also stressful. oikawa sighed into his coffee cup, if only someone else in the world knew how he felt. his studies were stressing him out, his relationship was falling apart, his family was pressuring him and it felt as if the whole world collectively turned their backs to him.
he stared at his reflection in the dark coffee, oh how he wished to have someone decent to talk to. his girlfriend was probably out seeing someone else at this point in time. "you don't have the time for me" "you don't take me out on dates anymore" "you don't buy me gifts" is what she would say every day without realizing that oikawa himself was busy and tired and wished to end his suffering once and for all.
"no one gets me..." he whispered softly into his coffee before finishing it.
...
"isn't it too late for someone so young to be out?" a deep voice startled him making shivers run down his spine. oikawa looked up slowly only to be met by a pair of green-ish eyes staring back at him.
"isn't it quite inappropriate to ask someone so young that?" oikawa fired back, the male scoffed and smiled at the student, nodding slightly.
"you are right, that was rude of me. i'm just looking out for youth this lonely night, the city is not as safe as it seems"
"oh, you tell me. too bad the police are lazy, snacking on some fish shaped snacks and not caring about the future of the city"
"police are lazy? do you have any proof of that?"
"yes... unfortunately. a couple of months back my neighbour was screaming her lungs out, door locked, we were on a sixth floor. i called the police immediately, who knows what happened and it took them so long to arrive! me and my roommate got tired of waiting and broke down her door..."
"and?"
"her husband was beating her... he was drunk and out of his mind, she was pregnant and he was beating her. it took police almost three hours to get there, even though the station was only a couple of blocks away..."
"you did a good job, you saved her"
"i guess i did... but the police messed up. she filed a report, yes, but she was so disappointed once we told her when we had called the police.. wait, why am i telling you this?"
"not sure, but thank you for sharing. i'll keep that in mind"
...
it felt like a pebble rolled off of his chest, oikawa sighed in relief. yet, he still cursed himself for opening his mouth, the words just spilled out, he couldn't stop it. the sentences he spoke were water and oikawa's mouth was a broken faucet, unable to stop the water from spilling out. perhaps this enchanting stranger could listen to more of his worries...
"thank you for liste---" the words abruptly stopped, as oikawa stared at the empty space in front of him.
the stranger was gone.
he hadn't gone far though, just a few steps into the dark park where no light reaches him. he glanced back at the young guy on a bench before sighing and continuing to walk forward.
iwaizumi rubbed his hands together and put them back in his pockets, not like he expected this night to be chilly. the wind was stronger than he imagined, but he wasn't going to come back home right after work. it was tiring, people praising him for his work and all - but when will they consider his well-being?
all iwaizumi has been doing is going to work every single day, even sundays, working on projects and planning campaigns. was it even worth it? everyone told him that it is, his colleagues, his friends, the fellow politicians and his wife - but he didn't feel ready yet.
the chair of a prime minister is quite an accomplishment, iwaizumi was supposed to aim for it with all the passion he had, but as time went on he began doubting himself. was he really suited for the position? not to mention his wife and their parents...
oh how proud they are to have a son so successful, everyone around them was jealous of iwaizumi's wife. i mean, every self-respecting straight or bisexual male would be jealous, she was a beacon of beauty among the basic girls. a foreigner, first and foremost, with long blonde hair and stunning brown eyes, tall and fit, high-maintenance and with a perfect fashion sense - she was seen as perfect by those around. she was always so gentle and loving, kind and respectful, a perfect wife for a strong politician.
or so they thought.
she was all those things, but she was also demanding, fired up and way too passionate. it wasn't even support anymore, it was pressure, but she thought she was doing a great job. even her name - athena - played a huge part in her characteristics, after all, she was named after a goddess.
don't get it wrong, athena was a very loving woman, she and iwaizumi got together while they were both still studying, but lately iwaizumi couldn't bear her presence, it was too much. he wanted to rest, he wanted to sit down and have a heartfelt conversation with someone, just stay in someone's arms and fall asleep, athena was not providing any of that...
as he approached a black suv and sat in, he felt his driver's gaze on him.
"what?"
"sir, with all due respect, you need to stop doing this. these streets are dangerous..."
"i know..."
the car started moving down the empty street, iwaizumi found himself gazing out of the tinted window. he sighed and whispered:
"no one gets me"
