Chapter 4

We drove in the car for a few more minutes before we reached a lumber farm.

"Wow," Caleb gushed.

Elliot smiled as he stopped the car, "Welcome to my office."

"Cool," Caleb replied jumping out of the car.

Once we were all out of the vehicle, Elliot walked to the back of the car and popped open the trunk. "Man I love it out here. I wish I could just move up here and live off the land," Elliot stated while pulling out the rifle.

He looked back and fourth between the three of us, "Let's do it, huh? No more responsibilities no more school."

"I like school," Bradley cut in.

"Come on, nobody likes school," His father scoffed.

I rolled my eyes, "I also happen to like school."

Elliot ignored my comment but not before giving me a cold hard stare. Bradley reached over and pulled me close to him; he wrapped his arms around me to where he was hugging me from behind.

Elliot turned away, "All right have a seat. What's the first rule of gun safety?"

"No drinking," Bradley's asked sarcastically as we sat down.

"Don't shoot anybody?" Caleb cut in.

Elliot shook his head, "Smart asses, but yeah that's the absolutely the first rule: Don't shoot anybody. So always keep the gun pointed down range, and you keep the safety on until you're ready to fire, Okay?"

He pointed the gun downwards and showed us a little red dot, "And this little button right here. See the red? That means the safety is off and is ready to fire. So red you're dead."

"'Red you're dead' cool," Caleb said as he stood up.

"Okay you ready to give it a shot?" Elliot questioned.

Caleb shook his head and started walking away from the car.

Elliot looked at Bradley, "Oldest first."

"Thanks," Bradley smiled and took the gun from his father.

Bradley took the rifle in his hands and followed his dads instructions. I watch in fear and I could feel my blood run cold. I hated guns I have said it a million times and I'll say it again. I. Hate. Guns. All they have ever done in my world is take life. And seeing Bradley hold a gun brought back bad memories that I just didn't want to bring up.

While trapped in my thoughts a gun shot went off and I let out a yelp. Bradley fell to the ground and my heart stopped.

"I thought you shot yourself," Caleb laughed. At the words I let out a breath I had been holding in.

Bradley was on the ground clutching his shoulder. My instincts kicked in and I leaned down to examine it.

"Oh my god," Bradley winced. Elliot and Caleb were laughing at my boyfriend while I was looking at him with concern.

"I told you to keep it snug," Elliot shrugged, "All right, well, now we know that this isn't a toy, right?"

I helped Bradley stand to his feet and started to walk him back to the car. "Where you going?" His father asked.

We ignored him so Elliot spoke again, "You're just gonna go off and cry about it."

"Don't listen to him. He is just an asshole," I comforted.

"Hey have a damn sense of humor," Elliot shouted.

Bradley spun back around, "Can you just give me a minute please!"

"Hey are you alright?" I questioned.

Before my boyfriend could answer a snowball came flying and hit him on the back of the head. "Hey what's the matter with you?" He shouted while turning around.

Both Elliot and Caleb pointed at each other and stated it wasn't him. Bradley picked up a snowball and threw it at the duo.

Caleb threw one as well and it hit me.

"Oh you're so dead," I laughed while chucking snow at my boyfriend's little brother.

My snow ball missed its target but found a new one in Elliot. A few seconds later Caleb, Bradley and I were tackling Elliot with snow balls.

"Oh so you're gonna gang up on me with your cheap shots? Ok that's how you want to play," Elliot asked while gathering a big pile of snow.

Elliot started to make his way over to where Bradley and I were throwing snowballs. "Hey no," Bradley shouted.

Elliot smashed the huge block of snow onto my boyfriend's head while Caleb chucked snowballs at him.

My face fell and I took a step back. I saw the look at Bradley's face as Elliot started to chant "Winner winner!"

Bradley was soaking wet in snow as Caleb continued to throw snow at him. "Caleb Stop," Bradley shouted.

"He's soaked," Caleb told his dad.

Bradley rolled his eyes, "Not funny."

"Well we are laughing," Elliot said.

"I'm not laughing," I deadpanned as my boyfriend made his was over to the car.

Caleb approached, "We're just playing-," he was cut off my Bradley shoving him back.

I climbed in the car and Bradley got in not a second later and slammed the door shut. I jumped back at the action and Bradley faced me. He noticed that I was scooted back and his face softened.

"Shit, Sky I'm sorry I didn't mean..." He started.

I shook my head and moved closer, "It's fine. I get it and you don't have to apologize. You're dad is just being a dick so let him and Caleb have their bullshit fun and you talk to me."

I started to comb the snow out of his hair and take it out of his hoodie. I dusted all the snow off but continued to play with his hair. He looked at me and gave a weak smile.

"Thank you, for everything," he whispered.

I smiled, "Don't thank me I have told you this. You would do the same if you could."

"You're right I would but I can't so I'm gonna do this," Bradley smiled as he leaned in.

The next second he was kissing me. It was slow and warm and the usual buzzing feeling returned like it did when I kissed him. I loved these moments as well; the kiss wasn't demanding or full of lust. It was sweet and loving. His kisses were always like this.

A few seconds went by and then a gun shot sounded and I pulled away with a jump.

"Hey you're ok," Bradley reassured pulling me into a hug.

We could hear Caleb shouting that he hit a target but neither of us responded. I stayed in Bradley's arms as more gunshots rang out trying to keep the memories at bay.
