Chapter 11

"Is this your card?" Caleb asked confidently.

A small came across my lips as Bradley answered, "No."

Night had fallen and Caleb had found a deck of cards in the bed room of the cabin. We have been keeping ourselves busy with that while Elliot was passed out in a chair.

"Yeah it was," Caleb stated looking at the card. I shook my head and gave a small laugh.

Bradley let out a small chuckle as well. I looked towards my boyfriend and gave him a smile. Bradley pulled me closer to where I was sitting on his lap and buried his face into the crook of my neck.

The youngest Baker let out a sigh, "Okay one second. How about this one? Was it this one?"

I opened my mouth to answer but stopped. I could head nosies coming from outside the cabin.  I gave Bradley a glance and by the look in his eyes I could see he heard it also.

"What?" Caleb asked, cluelessly.

Neither of us answered and the noises started to get louder. "What is that?" Bradley questioned.

"I don't know," Caleb answered.  I looked towards my boyfriend, who had his arm wrapped around my shoulder.

All three of us started to stand once we heard the noises on the porch. "What is it," Caleb asked again.

The door handle started to rattle.  I slowly made my way forward as the two boys started to wake their father.

They repeatedly called out to their dad, but to no avail.  Caleb grabbed the rifle and aimed it at the door.

The door swung open and Caleb let out a yell; Elliot was up in an instant.  Bradley yanked me by my arm to where he was standing directly in front of me.  His arms were outstretched as if he was trying to block me away from the intruders.

I wrapped my arms around my boyfriend's torso, signaling that I was okay.  He eased at my touch and I was able to get a glimpse at the two people who had just entered the cabin.

"Look does he know what he's doing?" One of the men asked.

The other was slightly back and was mumbling in French.  Elliot grabbed the gun from Caleb and aimed it at the two men.

"What the fuck are you doing here?" Elliot questioned.

The guys didn't answer but started to speak fluently in French again.  This made Elliot raise the gun higher, "Hey you talk English. What the hell are you doing here?"

"Look we have been out here hunting for three days, all right? We tried to leave earlier but we couldn't get the truck out," one of them spoke.  His hands were raised in surrender.

Elliot wasn't buying it, "Brad, get their guns."

Bradley didn't move from his spot and glared at his father.  Elliot grew annoyed and spoke again, "Brad get their guns now! Put them in the back room."

I gave Bradley a slight shove, "It's okay just do it." My boyfriend did as instructed at my words and stripped the men of their weapons.

I stepped forward and grabbed one of the guns out of Bradley's hands.  I quickly followed behind and entered the back room.

"Are you Okay?" Bradley asked as he sat the gun down.

I followed his motions and nodded my head. "I'm fine. It's just weird they're here," I stated.

Bradley pulled me into a quick hug and kissed me on the forehead, "Stay close to me okay. I don't want anything to happen."

I nodded my head and we left the bedroom.  Bradley interlocked our fingers as we stood right behind his father.  We could hear one of the men introduce their names: Richard and Luke.

"Stop talking French okay?" Elliot barked.

However the man kept on speaking French.  I could tell by the speed of his voice and the tone, that he was afraid.  I couldn't understand what he was trying to say but I knew Bradley did.

My boyfriend started to speak fluently in the foreign language to the man. This earned a smile from me but a bewildered stare from Elliot.

The man named Richard spoke, "He just said we were here first, Okay?"

Elliot didn't respond but kept shifting his weight between his feet. Tensions were rising and Bradley squeezed my hand tight. "We can share," Caleb offered, hoping to defuse the situation, "It'll be alright."

"Listen to your son, okay. It's not even your fucking cabin man," Richard stated.

Elliot didn't respond. A few seconds went by and I spoke up, "We can't just leave them out there, it's freezing."

This seemed to convince Elliot, as he gave a nod of his head. Richard and Luke entered to cabin and slowly shut the door. The tension in the room eased slightly.

I looked towards Bradley and saw that he was rocking back and forth, trying to keep his eyes open.

"Hey your gonna make yourself dizzy. Sit down," I whispered. My boyfriend did as he was told and took a seat in a chair.

I walked over to the clothing rack that I had made earlier. I reached up and grabbed my hoodie and pulled it on over my purple sweater.

"So What are you guys doing up here?" Richard asked.

Caleb was the one to answer not a split second later, "He was teaching us to shoot."

Bradley then started to have another coughing fit. I was by his side instantly, rubbing my hand down his back.

"Are you okay?" Richard questioned, looking between Bradley and I.

"He fell through the ice," I answered, brushing hair out of my boyfriend's eyes.

Caleb the added onto my statement, "It was crazy."

"No shit," Richard replied, reaching into his pocket. He pulled out a bottle of liquor, "Have some of this. It'll soothe your throat."

Richard went to hand me the bottle but Elliot cut in, "Are you out of your fucking mind, they're kids."

I glanced back at Elliot and saw something different. It was as if his sanity was slowly deteriorating, and it scared the hell out of me.

"Hey man relax, I'm just trying to help," Richard stated, taking a step back.

Elliot waved the gun, "You go over there in the corner and relax." The two men did as they were told and backed up slowly into the corner of the cabin.

Bradley's breathing started to pick up slightly as Elliot spoke again, "You kids go into the back room and get some sleep."

"We're not tired," Caleb whined.

Elliot glanced at the three of us, "Now."

The tone in his voice sent shivers down my spine. I grabbed onto Caleb with one hand and Bradley with the other. I pulled them into the back room and shut the door.

Bradley gave me a weird look and Caleb flopped onto the farthest bed. I walked over to the bed and motioned for my boyfriend to lay down.

He did as he was told and I started to cover him in blankets. I went to stand but he pulled me back down.

"What?" I asked softly, brushing hair out of his eyes once more.

Bradley gave me a small smile, "You need sleep."

"I was going to sleep on the floor. You need the bed and there isn't enough room," I answered, placing my hand on his cheek.

Bradley caught it and pulled me into the bed with him. "We'll make room," he stated as he covered us up.

A small laugh escaped my lips as Bradley wrapped his arms around me. "Like you said body heat is the best way to prevent hyperthermia," my boyfriend laughed.

"You heard that?" I asked, my eyebrows raising up.

Bradley gave me a nod and a smile, "Every word. And it was awesome."

I gave Bradley a kiss on the cheek and buried my head into his chest. A sigh left my lips as I felt relief flood through my body.
