chapter two!
running to her body, cassidy began to shake her lifeless figure. panicking she brought her hand to her hair and ran it through.
"i can't be dead!" she exclaimed, looking at the boys. charley watched the girl empathetically before glancing over at wally who had watched the girl, cringing.
"at least you won prom queen.." charley added, cautiously. wally elbowed him and shook his head. the blonde glared at him before standing up, backing away from the body, and standing with the two boys.
"and we're sure i'm dead? this isn't just a bad dream?" she asked, reaching to her arm to pinch it. wally quickly grabbed her hand before she could pinch herself.
"let me save you from all those bruises." he spoke, lightly squeezing the girl's hand.
cassidy nodded disappointedly at the boy and wrapped her arms around herself and walked a few steps away from the freezer, sticking her hands in the warm pockets of wally's letterman jacket.
"why don't we head away from the freezer, huh?" charley offered, smiling sentimentally at the girl. cassidy looked back at her body. "well what about when they find me?" she asked.
wally frowned slightly and held out his hand. "you probably don't want to wait around that long." he spoke. "it's one am, and no one will be here until six." he informed her.
the blonde bit her lower lip as it began to quiver. her eyes began to swell up with tears as she looked away from wally. feeling the first tear start to fall, she immediately began to sob, dropping to the ground.
"i'm gonna go get mr martin!" charley called, running away from the two.
wally sat on the floor next to the girl and wrapped his arms around her comfortingly. "shh, it's going to be okay." he soothed.
the girl was now crying into his chest before the footsteps of charley and mr martin had been heard on the cement floor. "okay, cassidy, here is someone that can help. okay?" spoke charley as mr martin stepped forward.
"hi, cassidy.." spoke mr martin. the girl slowly lifted her head from wally's chest, but found his hand and held onto it nervously.
without hesitation, the dark haired boy intertwined the two's fingers and rubbed circles into her hand.
"my name's mr martin, i lead the afterlife group here." he began, crouching on the floor to sit next to wally and adelaide. the blonde looked at him, wiping off a tear and nodded her head.
"i know it may be hard to grasp right now, but eventually you'll be used to it. i think group meetings will really be beneficial to you." the man suggested.
the blonde nodded, agreeing to attending a meeting. behind her charley was shutting the freezer door to put adelaide's body out of sight.
"wally, why don't you take her on a walk?" offered mr martin, "and then i'll see you two at the meeting tonight." the blonde glanced over at wally and saw him nod in agreement with the teacher.
he stood up off the ground and helped cassidy up, watching as she adjusted her dress so she wouldn't trip on it. "why don't we go find you some new clothes?" he offered, earning an eager nod from her.
"i think that's a perfect idea!" announced mr. martin. "it's almost like a fresh start." he spoke.
wally began to lead cassidy out of the cafeteria back room and through the cafeteria. looking around the dark dimmed room she thought of all the things she was going to miss out on.
noticing the girl drifting off in thought, wally decided to start up a conversation. "so.. what was your day to day like?" the boy asked, glancing over at her.
she looked over at him before shrugging. "mostly just cheer, ap classes, and student council." she spoke, brushing off her activities.
hearing the blonde mention cheerleading his eyes widened and a bright smile appeared on his face. "no way!" he exclaimed. "finally, there's someone here that has school spirit!" wally fist pumped.
cassidy let out a small giggle at the boy's excitement. "i can't be the only one..." she responded, immediately being cut off by wally shaking his head.
"trust me, you are. every year i try to get the group hyped for the homecoming game, but they all are so dull!" he exclaimed. "especially rhonda, she was murdered and she's really bit-" the boy started before glancing over at the blonde.
noticing the discomfort on her face, he immediately felt horrible.
"i'm so sorry." wally spoke, stopping once they arrived at the lost and found. cassidy nodded, accepting his apology.
the blonde leaned over the bin before making a disgusted face. "all of these clothes are gross." she whispered, in fear she would sound too bratty. she glanced over at wally before dusting off her dress.
"i mean, maybe the prom dress could be fine." she spoke with a frown. the boy shook his head and waved her on to follow him.
"you can just steal some of my sweats." he spoke.
"and then maybe when a student goes to change into their gym clothes on monday, you can take their clothes." wally offered.
she raised an eyebrow at him and chewed the inside of her lip. "are you okay with that? i don't want to intrude." she told the boy.
wally smiled widely and shook his head, "no you're totally fine!" he assured the girl before leading her towards a janitors closet.
the blonde hesitantly followed behind the football player before he pulled out some sweatpants and a crewneck sitting on the cart. "you can change into these." he spoke, watching the girl.
cassidy nodded at the boy as he continued to stare at her. "uh wally, i need to change." she spoke. wally quickly realized before nodding and walking out of the closet behind her.
after the door latched closed the blonde instantly felt her heart rate rise and her breath began to get short. she quickly patted around, looking for the handle and pushed the door open aggressively, making wally jump.
he noticed the girl panicked and instantly held onto her arms. "hey, hey, what's wrong?" he asked worriedly. cassidy looked up at the boy and began to cry. "it was so dark, and then the door shut and..." she trailed off, wally instantly realizing what had happened to the girl.
he rubbed her arm soothingly before leading her back to the closet. "i'm so sorry, i didn't think of that." he apologized, reaching up for the string to turn on the light.
the room was illuminated and wally smiled down at adelaide. "okay, cass... how about i stand on the other side, with the door slightly ajar." he offered. "i'll keep lookout while you change." he spoke.
the blonde stepped inside the closet and nodded. "yes please."
