CHAPTER FIVE

MORE DREAMS AND MEMORIES

FLASHBACK
MARCH 2018

Abeni Mustapha scurried around the loft that she shared with her daughter gathering relics, crystals, salts, amplifiers, spell books and grimoires. Anything that she could use to amplify her magic.

She had been stepping on one of her dining chairs to reach the top shelf of her bookcase to get some more books when she heard the door bell ring.

"Abby is everything okay? When you called you sounded scared and heres the book you asked for." Madelyn babbled as she walked in. Her eyes widened at the scene.

"Why does it look like one of my family members from Salem crashed here for the weekend?" Madelyn asked as she saw the magical items scattered across the living room.

"l need them. For a spell." Abeni explained as she went back to the bookcase and stood on the chair.

"Why don't you use your powers to get that book?" Madelyn asked as she started
browsing through the books that her friend had already pulled out.

"l need to save as much of my magic as I can." She huffed before finally reaching the old book.

Madelyn scanned around the loft until her
eyes landed on the table filled with frames of treasure photographs. From pictures of

Harlow and her mom to pictures of Harlow and her best friends. Centred between the others laid a picture of Harlow, Abeni and her two late brothers, Derek and Xavier.

That picture had a small candle infront of it that bared the flame of the mourning and remembered not a flame

of destruction. A flame that burned until the family had moved on from that tragedy, the trauma. But alas the candle stayed lit, four years later.

Madelyn had only met the boys once in her life but they were absolutely delightful, kind, charming young men who didn't deserve their fate.

Then she noticed this small group of envelopes, each with a name on it. The white envelope bared the name of her last living child with a small sticker of sid the sloth from ice age.

It was if Madelyn's powers were on rocket fuel for she could tell, feel that Abeni was about to do something crazy but mostly reckless.

Madelyn quickly ran around the loft trying to find her friend.

"Abby! Abby!" She called as the heels of her boots hit the floor. She halted when she saw her setting up all her Crystal's and pouring her powders and salts.

"Abby. What on earth are you doing?"

Madelyn asked the woman who froze in her tracks, almost as if she forgot that she was on her home.

"Mads, i know what this looks like-'Abeni
started.

"Looks like? LOOKS LIKE?! Abby you of all people should know how dangerous these kind of spells are. I'm not an idiot I can see what you're trying to do. I just don't get why." Madelyn exclaimed.

"l had another one of those dream—"

"Again? Abby half of the time these things
aren't even right?"

"I CAN'T RISK IT WITH THIS ONE!" She yelled."Not for her. Not for Harlow." She takes a deep breathe. "In a month, a lot and I mean a lot of people are going to die. I don't have even have enough magic to save the trillions but I can't let my daughter die okay. Not her. If she dies she won't get that time back. I can't do that to her knowing that I can prevent her death."

"And what about you? This spell will take
everything out of you, probably more. What if this doesn't work? What if you die? That'll destroy Harlow!" Madelyn argued.

"The spell can go to directions. It'll either A; save Harlow from a fate that half of
everything will go through or B; make sure the person who she's destined to fight die with the rest of them." Abeni explained as she continued to pour the salts. "l was stubborn, I thought I'd have time to train and  teach to for the inevitable but time is running out and its my fault she's in this position. Even if she doesn't know it yet."

"No, No! Abby this is where you stop and
listen to me. I know about your family history with Solaris. I especially know that you thought you'd be able to train Harlow before her time would come. And I know that you just want to keep her safe but you dying will just make things ten times worse. This spell will kill you. And you know that. This plan isn't going to do anything in Harlow's favor. She's already lost her brother's don't let her lose her mother too, this isn't good for her."
Madelyn argued with the woman.

" Don't you dare argue with me on what's
good for my daughter and what's not! I know what it is! Not you, me!" Abeni snapped at the woman making her frown.
"I'm sorry for yelling. I'm just so scared. I wish there was another way but Harlow has to survive so she can learn more. It's the only way." Madelyn wiped away a tear that she didn't even know she had let out.

" We all need you, Abs, I do, Harlow will need you. She can't lose you. l- I can't lose you." Abeni took her best friends face in her hands and wiped away her tears.

"l know Gray, I know. It's for the best, if I can't give Harlow an advantage then I'll give the future Scarlet Witch a disadvantage." Madelyn's lips still tremble.

"l am grateful for everything that you've done for me and I hope you'll watch over my daughter for me."Abeni said as the two women pressed their foreheads together, both shedding tears.

"l can't let you do you this." Madelyn
whispered while thinking of an incantation.

"And I can't let you stop me." Abeni said
before her blue energy coated her hands
before pressing both of her middle and index fingers on her temples. "l can't let you remember this either." Abeni sobbed and enunciated a spell.

END OF FLASHBACK
PRESENT DAY

And that's when everything went black
Madelyn Grayswood woke up with a gasp
and a sob. Placing her hand on her chest to try regain her stable heart beat.

Harlow's magic side and gut told her to come and check on her guardian. So you can imagine how she felt when she walked in and saw her having a nervous breakdown.

The minute the blonde locked eyes with the young girl, she broke down. Harlow immediately scurried over and sat on the edge of Madelyn's ed and pulled the blonde woman into a hug while the said woman sobbed into Harlows chest.

"I'm so sorry. I could've saved her." She cried as Harlow tried to calm her down.

Things were about to get more complicated.
