BLUE VALLEY, NEBRASKA
EIGHT YEARS AGO

Seven-year-old Melaina and Cameron walked with Jordan Mahkent to the room where Christine Mahken was lying, dying.

Cameron had asked his father if Melaina could be there, just to make it easier. The two had met a few months after Melaina moved to Blue Valley and they became best friends. Jordan wanted to make the situation as pain-free as it could be so inviting the girl over the day his wife was to die to comfort his son would be the best he could do.

They entered the room and Jordan led Cameron to the bed while Melaina stayed beside his grandparents and father. But the grandparents took it upon themselves to push the young girl forward to stand beside her friend as the dying woman spoke to him.

Over the past 3 years, the little girl had become like family to them so of course, she should get a moment to say goodbye.

"What do we have here?" Christine whispered as she took the drawing in her hands.

"Its a flower from your garden," Cameron told her.

"I love it." Mrs Mahkent spoke weakly before Cameron climbed onto the bed and hugged the woman.

The two shared words for a brief moment before Melaina heard her name.

"Melaina honey... come here, it's okay." Christine called calmly which made the adults smile slightly, the woman always saw the little girl as a daughter.

"Promise me you'll take care of Cameron." She pleaded to the girl in little curly pigtails as she held her small hands in her weak ones.

"I'll do my best," Melaina assured the woman as she intertwined her fingers with Cameron's before the woman started going into Cardiac arrest.

"Mommy! Mommy!" Cameron exclaimed as he held onto her body in fear.

"Its okay buddy, it's okay," Jordan assured before the boy ran off and Melaina followed.

He ran into the hallway and slid down a wall and put his head into his knees as he cried softly. Melaina immediately sat down next to him and put her short around the boy's body as he cried.

FLASHBACK OVER
PRESENT DAY

Melaina and Cameron walked up the stairs of the school together and saw the crowd that was around the concrete slab that had the schools name on it had been badly damaged with debris on either side. The two sent each other confused expressions before making their way through the school doors.

"So we're still on at Richie's for the post Talent show celebration right?" Lainie asked the raven-haired boy.

"Yeah, of course, I'll probably meet you guys there," Cameron told the girl.

"So... I heard your dad's back in town."

"Yep," Cameron responded.

"Are you okay. I know your dad is usually out of town and it's sometimes weird for you when he comes back." Lainie stated knowing the situation for him and his dad at home.

"Mel its perfectly fine." He assured with a laugh.

"Yes, I got you to smile. You never smile anymore" Lainie exclaimed triumphantly.

"I do when I'm with you." Cameron gushed before the two friends started laughing.

"That was so corny. Okay, you gotta go get your things before I start laughing again." She giggled before shoving him lightly to the direction of his locker.

Melaina and Cameron would often be a little flirty with each other but that was just part of their friendship. Joey and Josephine noticed it a lot but they knew deep down that one day the two would get together, hopefully soon or they'd take into their own hands.

Not too far from her locker she saw Josie in a conversation with Courtney, the new girl right before Joey interrupted to show Courtney a successful card trick.

Joey and Melaina weren't as close as Josie and Melaina, but they've known each other for 10 years and for more years to come as they'd been friends for that long too. She always was protective over him but lucky for him, everyone loved Joey, he was the light that brightened up the room whenever he walked in that's one of the things she loved about the Zarick twin.

When the aspiring magician finished the trick Courtney and Josie shared a hug before going in their separate ways down the halls.

✦✧✦✧

Josephine and Joey were in the library since they both had a free they decided to practice his tricks for his act. They had gone over all of them quite a couple of times but Joey still felt like he needed to practice some more. His anxiousness was noticeable by his twin sister.

"Joey, what's going on?" Josephine asked her twin brother.

"I don't know, I'm just really nervous I guess." He answered as he put down his cards on the table.

" You have nothing to be nervous about, you're gonna be fantastic." She assured him.

"I just don't want to disappoint mom and dad."

"Oh, Joey... give me your hands" she started when she remembered something that they used to do when they were younger.

"We stopped doing that when we were like 10."

"Well, you need it right now." Josie insisted before taking her brothers hands in hers.

"Deep breathe in and out, you'll be okay we'll always be twins to the end of our days. By the bond of mom's womb to the tippy top of your hat. I'll always be by your side, don't forget that. If you ever get frightened, just remember these words and the memories we've shared, my brother and the world remember I love you and that's never compared." Josie quoted

The twins at a young age had suffered from panic attacks for many years before they stopped when they became teenagers and whenever it would happen and they were with each other they would say those words and it would fix everything.

"Thanks, Jose." Joey thanked as he pulled his sister into a hug.

"Anytime brother dear."

✦✧✦✧

Melaina, Josie and Joey were currently on the bus. The Zarick twins along with Lainie weren't supposed to be there, they had planned to go to Lainie's after the Talent show but since Lyta, in Melania's words 'decided to be a bitch' they were forced to take the bus.

Josie and Joey were currently talking with Beth about his place, bother Josie and Beth could agree that Joey deserved higher than 3rd place but what could they do?

Melaina, on the other hand, was cooling off after a ranting session with Josie about Lyta who had decided to ditch them.

Josie still had been having those migraines and feelings about today but she just brushed them off since the day was almost over.

Lainie was gazing out the window when she saw this mist appear not too far from the bus. The bus started swerving ferociously which caused Joey to get thrown out his seat as the students screamed.

Lainie, Joey and Josie tried their best to hold on when the bus crashed through the railing which made it start leaning over the edge just above the water.

"Joey!" Josephine screamed when her brother due to him being out of his seat was thrown to the back of the bus as it leaned further and further.

Josephine and Melaina both looked to the back to see if Joey was okay when they saw this robot push the bus up but the sight didn't last long when the bright light blinded the 3 for a moment before the found themselves back of the land safely.

The back emergency door was opened and students rushed out as the bus driver and teacher told everyone to be careful.

The second Josie's boots touched the ground she noticed something was off, it wasn't a tar road, it was ice. Why was their Ice in the middle of fall? She went over to her brother who had sat down to catch her breathe and Lainie joined soon after.

Josie didn't know what it was but she suddenly felt a cold breeze go up to her neck which caused some of Joey's cards to blow away and he quickly followed to get them.

"Joey! Be careful." Lainie called to the boy she called a brother.

What the 3 friends didn't realize was that there was an oncoming car.

" JOEY!" Josephine screamed but it was too late.

The car swerved due to the ice but the driver couldn't control it and hit the 15-year-old boy. The students who had just witnessed it screamed in fear but you could only hear Josephine's screams of pain as she ran over to her brother.

"JOEY! SOMEBODY CALL FOR HELP!!" Josie cried as she scurried over with Lainie, the bus driver and teacher close behind.

"Joey, come on please be ok, come on bud." Josie pleaded with tears streaming down her face as she held her brother's body in her arms, but deep down she knew he was gone.

Lainie didn't know what to say, she wanted to say something but whenever she opened her mouth to speak, nothing came out. She kneeled beside Joey and Josie holding the deceased boy's hand in hope's of him coming back, all she saw was blood all over his face, his nose was broken, eyes were open and lifeless and blood had pooled in his mouth as Josie cried.

"Jose, Josie!" Lainie cried to her best friend who just sobbed as she did heart compressions on his chest begged for him to be okay while saying ' come on, come on Joey.' "I'm sorry girl." She whimpered.

"No! Not him, not him! Why him Lainie. WHY HIM!" The brunette wept with her brothers' blood on her hands as Melaina pulled the girl into a hug while they both cried and heard the ambulance sirens on their way.

Shortly after, they arrived and put Joey's body in a body bag, zipped it up and took him away. The cops came and questioned each of the students and adults that were there.

Josephine couldn't speak, she just cried every time they asked her questions, so much that Melaina had to tell the officer that it was her brother that just got taken away. The officer just looked at both girls with a sorrowful expression, she had noticed that they were most affected by this.

Josie's bad feelings were just a start for a bunch of bad things that were about to happen.

I cried while writing this :(
Joey deserved so much better than what he got and I miss him so much... another chapter of sadness coming up.

Who noticed that Josie's powers are manifesting?
