Rick had called a meeting. Everyone was gathered around in Deanna's house. There was a quarry, not to far. It had been collecting walkers since the beginning. Rick had decided we couldn't leave it. "If the truck moves, the walkers will go east. Sending them right for us." I shifted my weight as I nervously listened. "That's why we have to handle it."ย

Everyone was trying to figure out another way, but I knew how it had to be done. Daryl was gonna lead them away. Sasha had volunteered. It was a suicide mission and I knew she wasn't scared to die. So I volunteered too.ย

I was scared of death. I knew what offering to help meant, but I still did it.ย

(572) Rick has us all gathered around the quarry on a dry run, so we could actually see what we'd be up against. I stood with Sasha, since I'd be working with her. Then there was a rumbling. The truck that blocked on of the exits was falling off of the cliff in a rockslide. I reached for my gun, watching it hang off the cliff before crashing down over the edge.ย

"We got to do this now!" Rick yelled. I ran over to the car, Sasha sliding into the drivers seat as I got into the passenger side. "We'll meet at red!" I yelled, rolling down my window as Daryl nodded and got on his bike. Sasha started to drive, and I hung my head out of the window, watching as everyone else did their part.

I shot at any walkers blocking our path, only missing a few of my shots. My aim had gotten better. These last few weeks I would go out and practice daily, preparing for this mission.

I saw the balloons, first. "Sasha." I pointed, causing her to realize and slow down. I reached for the walkie-talkie "We're at red." I announced, quickly greeted by the sound of Daryls reply. We sat there for a few seconds, in a comfortable silence before we saw Daryl. She drove the car beside him.

We got to yellow, where some walkers had started to trail off. I rolled my window down and started banging on the car and yelling like a maniac. It was working. I stopped once they had all started the follow again. "Did it work?" Sasha asked with a soft chuckle. "Yeah. I think." I smiled and leaned against the seat.

We had reached the "finish line" where everyone else would start to go home and just me, Sasha, and Daryl would continue on for about twenty more miles. It was a slow and quiet drive. I tried my best to keep track of the miles, making sure we wouldn't have to do this longer than we had to. "Hey, we gone five miles out yet?" Daryl asked. "Just about. Why!" I responded as loud as I could, trying to overpower the sound of the engine. "Next intersection we're gonna spin around and go back." I looked at him confused. "We still got fifteen more!" I stuck my head out the window, making sure I heard him right. "Yeah, I'm gonna change that. Fives gonna have to work." "Look you can go, but we're gonna need your help we wanna get back in one piece!" He turned his head, and I thought the conversation was over before he spoke up. "Nah, I got faith in you." And he drove off.ย "Seriously!?" I yelled, but it was too late.ย

"Goddammit!" I mumbled, slamming my arm against the dashboard. "Should we follow him?" Sasha asked before Ricks voice came back on the walkie-talkie. "No. We can't." I responded quietly, trying to listen to what Rick had to say. "Get 'em going your way again, Daryl." I clicked it on, butting into their conversation. "How about that, Daryl?"

I only got a response from Rick. "There's gunfire coming from back home. We gotta sit with it and hope they can handle it." I scoffed and set it down. Did the hoard somehow manage to reach Alexandria? "We can't turn back because we're afraid." Sasha reached over and I turned it on so she could speak. "We aren't afraid." I gave her a smile.ย

Suddenly, I heard gunshots coming directly from the radio. "Rick?!" I called out, but got no answer. Sasha looked over and I shook my head. We couldn't turn around. We had to lead them away. I looked out the window, and saw Daryls motorcycle. He came back.

"Thought you had faith in us?!" I teased in an attempt to lighten the mood, but he only sped up. I looked out the window, realizing I had missed count on the miles. I nervously bit my lip as I tried to do the math. We would have to drive for about for hours and it had already been three. Not too bad.ย

I clicked on the walkie-talkie. "Alright." I waited a few seconds before Daryl's response. "That's twenty?" Sasha sped up some, to the point where we were right behind him. " 642 is just about a mile ahead. Gotta put some distance between us and then." He sped up some, "Try to keep up." "Have you seen this car? We'll try our best." I clicked the walkie off, gently setting it down.

We reached 642 and turned around. Suddenly there were gunshots and the back window shattered. A car was chasing us and Daryl fell over. Sasha drove into a fence, where we sprung out of the car and started shooting at them. We had no idea where Daryl was and another car was approaching. "That yours?" Sasha asking, pointing to my shoulder. I looked and saw blood dripping down me. I pulled my shirt down, only to see a gunshot wound. "Guess so." I mumbled as I ran over to the car. I tore some of the fabric off of the car seat and put it on my wound.ย

We walked over to where we last saw Daryl. Sasha crouched down, digging in the dirt. "These are his shells." I looked over. "He must've gotten away." I was worried about Daryl, but all I could do was hope they didn't follow him. I grabbed the walkie-talkie out of my back pocket. "Daryl, are you there?" I asked, but got no response. "Should we go look for him?" Sasha shook her head in response. "Best way to find a tracker is to stay put." I stood up and looked around. "Could be more of those people, we aren't safe." She stood up and walked away. I followed her to a small building. "Wait." I said as she started to open the door. I used my knife to carve the word "Dixon" into the metal door. She gave me a nod and we walked in.

We carefully made our way through the building, eventually meeting up in a small office. "You wanna take watch or sleep?" She asked, sitting on a chair by the door. "You look tired. I'll take watch." I gave her a small smile. She laid in the corner for a few minutes before sitting back up. "Cant sleep?" I asked with a chuckle. "Nope." I nodded, looking around the office. "You think he's okay?" I nervously bit my nails, unable to get my mind off of Daryl. "I'm sure he's fine. He's a tough guy." She paused before adding on. "You care an awful lot about him." I rolled my eyes. "Whatever." I said playfully, opening the blinds. "I mean you guys wouldn't be too bad together.." She continued to tease. I turned around and crossed my arms. "You're acting like we're little kids." I grumbled, sitting back down. "Okay, seriously, go to sleep." She scoffed and laid back down, listening to me.ย

I wandered around the office, looking for any supplies we could use. After walking around for a little bit, I found a pack of granola bars hidden in the back of drawer. I went back to where Sasha was, only to see her awake and standing up. "Got food." I announced, setting it down on a table. She came over, grabbing one and eating it.

I was standing by the window when I saw a van approach. I watched as Daryl got out. "Hey Sasha!" I yelled as she walked over. She gave a chuckle. I grabbed the granola bars and we left the building.ย

"Hey." He said, walking over towards us. "We were worried about you." I mumbled as I wrapped an arm around him. After a shot, comfortable silence I pulled away and he gave me a nod.ย We all got into the van, worn out and ready to get home.ย

Daryl was one of the few people who wasn't actually scared of me. Most of the Alexandrians stayed away from me. Maybe they heard how Ricks group first found me, maybe they watched how I killed Pete, or maybe they just weren't sure what to think. These past few weeks we had slowly gotten closer. We actually understood each other. We had so many similarities, and I think that was another reason we had gotten so close.
