kiss & make up

I don't know what had gotten into me, but I had reached his date location before him.

Was that very unusual of me? Yes.

Would that stop their date? Probably. If I create a scene, that is.

I got brave and sneakily checked his phone. Surprisingly, his password was the same. But I felt guilty as soon as I got the address for their date. I had trust issues, but he was someone I had always trusted. I believed privacy should be treasured, and that is what I had invaded.

I reached the location, but no restaurant or shop was open. Had he closed down a whole street for a date with her? Wow! He had never done that for me.

As soon as I was about to get ready to return home, it started raining. I was almost in tears. How the hell could I be so unlucky?

Suddenly, a car stopped in front of me. Since I arrived, this was the first car I had seen, which scared me even more.

I felt relieved when I saw him getting out of the car. But then, he came close to me and asked, "What are you doing here?"

Embarrassment hit me hard. What was I going to say? That I was planning on crashing his date. No way! Before I could come up with a suitable excuse, his question was followed by a string of other questions.

"Are you okay? Is the water's pressure too strong?"

"What?" I needed clarification. Why would he ask such a question when he had no control over the water pressure of rain?

I looked around me and saw my fiance's best friend standing on a nearby rooftop along with my fiance's date.

"What is happening?" Amusement took over his previously concerned face. It had been months since I had last seen him smile. Of course, we only smiled at each other, but not seeing him smile for so long made me feel like a stranger in his life.

He slowly took my hands in his. He smiled at me affectionately and said, "Why are you so surprised? You were the one who had asked me to propose to you in the rain and then dance with you. I couldn't do it last time, but I am doing it today. I know you would have preferred a more private one, but they said they could not miss this moment."

At his words, I looked at the rooftop once more. Now, there stood all his close friends and...his mom.

I was still comprehending the situation around me when he sat on one knee and took a box out of his pocket. There was obviously a ring, but it wasn't just any ring. It held a special meaning. It was the ring we had chosen when we were madly in love. It was not as expensive as the one I was wearing, but it was beautiful. He had not proposed to me with that ring before because it was a challenge the first time. His ego was hurt when he saw that our relationship was falling apart, and the people who had predicted that were right. He had proposed to me at a huge event organized by his family, and I hated it, but this...this was exactly what I had dreamt about.

Now, I suddenly realized the main reason. We needed to communicate. If only one of us had talked when we realized that our relationship was on the verge of failure, then we would have had this moment way before. No relationship goes smoothly. They have ups and downs; all the partners can do about it is celebrate the ups and help each other through the downs.

Before he could ask, I said yes, and everyone started laughing, whistling and clapping.

He stood up, came close to me, held my face, and slammed his lips against mine. It had been so long since we had kissed, and this felt like heaven. His smooth, soft lips captured mine with so much passion, emotions, and pain of staying away from me. The kiss made my head ring. It drowned out all the cheers coming from the rooftop. The rain had stopped; it turns out it was artificial.

He left my lips but held me tight by my waist and looked straight into my eyes with the most affectionate look I had ever seen. Then, he slowly placed his forehead on mine and said, "I am sorry. I wish I had done all this before."

"It's okay. Better late than never." I chuckled with tears in my eyes. I had never felt so much love in my whole life. It was overwhelming but in a good way.

"How did you do all this?" I asked. I was inquisitive about how he managed to get his mother into this plan.

"When I realized how messed up whatever was happening between us was, I visited mother. She may not like you, but she doesn't lie when she says she loves me. So, when she saw me crying-"

"Wait...you cried?"

"Shut up and listen." I chuckled, and he continued, "She felt bad when she saw me like that and came up with a plan."

"So, she was the one who came up with the plan? No wonder that plan was brilliant, and I fell for it. You could never pull that off."

"I could have totally pulled that off by myself."

"Oh really? I don't think so."

"Well you will see what I can do tonight." He whispered and pulled me into another long kiss as the colossal clock behind us struck midnight, and then we danced the rest of the night away.
