Liv Gunnhildsdottir knew a thing or two about truth. She knew it was ugly, like some sort of monster with sickly grey skin and horns hitting out of its head like spikes readied for battle.

The truth sparked fear. It was why people were so scared of looking into her eyes, as though all the ugly truths they were trying to cover up would be spilled for them in the form of nightmares transferred to them through her irises. As far as she knew, she wasn't capable of such a thing. There were times when she would wish that she was. She would have loved to know that Odin was tossing and turning in his sleep because of her.

Liv didn't consider herself to be an evil person. If Odin would be losing sleep, it wouldn't be because of how wicked she was. It would be because she was the only one who knew of all his secrets. All the terrible things he had unleashed upon the seven realms alongside his daughter, Hela, all those thousands of years ago. Liv had seen it all. Just like she had seen how his past would come back to terrorise him. Now, all she could do was to await his destiny, as she rotted away in his dungeons.

Her beloved king had stolen everything from her people when they had refused to bow to him. She had been merely a child back then, which she assumed was the only reason he had spared her. He certainly had a thing for taking in the children of the monsters he defeated. But Liv's people hadn't been monsters. They had only been messengers of truth, treated as the monsters people wanted them to be. Nobody wanted to be embraced with truth. For that, Odin had taken them for evil creatures.

It was true, what her mother had told her all those years ago. Truth is treason in an empire built on lies.

Liv is the last völva. She lives in denial of the wicked tendencies of her people and why Odin had to go to war against them in order to protect the greater majority. She has a complete lack of moral compass, and is willing to do unspeakable things to get her way. She's manipulative and clever, and uses her gift to see the truth of the past, the current and the future to spark fear in people's heads, giving her easier access to control them. When the plot starts, she's been a prisoner in Odin's dungeons for ages after trying to start a revolution against Odin's reign. This is what sparks Loki's interest in her, and why he eventually chooses her as his companion. Liv uses her gifts and Loki's thirst for power to manipulate him into doing what she wants. Eventually, they become more than just companions.

Starts in Thor: The Dark World and continues through Thor: Ragnarok. Whether it will continue even further to Avengers: Infinity War is optional.
