⁰² Letters and Dexter
"Strong, smart, beautiful and kind of a badass."
━━☆━━
☆ A FEW weeks after Sirius had moved in, both James and he had been woken up by an overly enthusiastic Rin.
"Come on! Come on! WAKE UP!" She yelled, running down the halls of the Potter household. "We're getting our O. W. L results today! WAKE THE BLOODY HELL UP!"
Both boys groggily got up, groaning and grumbling at her for disturbing their slumber and gathered in the kitchen to eat breakfast.
They were met by an overly cheerful Rin, who was bouncing her leg up and down and staring out of the window.
Euphemia Potter who was in the middle of handing James a plate stacked with pancakes and whipped cream when she was suddenly interrupted by a scream from Rin, making her accidentally flip the plate into the air surprise, making a pancake fall cream-first onto Fleamont's face, then sliding down leaving his whole face covered with cream and falling with a splat.
There was a pin drop silence.
Well. . . except for the hooting sound of the owl that brought the children's Hogwarts letters, demanding them to pay it.
Fleamont then groaned loudly and slouched up to his bathroom to clean himself.
The others in the kitchen burst out laughing and Rin attempted to slow down her laughter by stuffing pancakes into her mouth.
Euphemia wiped away her tears of laughter and took the letters from the owl and paid it.
"How does Dumbledore know that Sirius is with us?" James asked, eyeing the letters in Sirius' hand.
"He's Dumbledore," Euphemia replied. "And James, don't talk with your mouth full."
"Mum, are we going to Diagon Alley to buy school supplies tomorrow?" Rin asked, re-reading her shopping list.
"No, we aren't," Fleamont said, suddenly appearing behind them. "Euphemia and I have to do that raid tomorrow. You know, auror work and all that. We could go today if you'd like."
"Ooh yes!" Rin said, scarfing down the rest of her breakfast and quickly standing up. "May I be excused?" Then not waiting for an answer, "Kthxbye!" She kissed her dad's cheek and ran into her room to get dressed.
━━☆━━
At around eleven-thirty, it was time to go.
"Can we go now!?" Rin asked her mother, standing in front of the fireplace and tapping her foot impatiently on the floor.
"Wait a moment!" Euphemia huffed, thrusting her hand into her purse and taking out three pouches filled with money and giving it to the three kids. "That's the extra money. Use it to treat yourselves."
Sirius opened his mouth to protest but Euphemia just waved her hand and patted his head.
She took a handful of Floo powder and stepped into the fireplace, yelled "DIAGON ALLEY!" was disappeared into the flames.
She was followed by the other three children, and at last, Fleamont.
"Come on kids, let's split up. Give us half of your list. You three go and buy your books. We'll meet at the Leaky Cauldron for lunch at one-thirty, and then buy the rest of the stuff together" Fleamont said.
"Let's got to Flourish and Blotts first," Rin said excitedly, grabbing her brother's and Sirius' arm and dragging them towards the store. "I've been waiting forever for the last book of the Peter Johnson series to come out. Lily sent me a letter saying that it came out last week!"
"Ugh! Where's the book?! Hasn't it still been released in the wizarding world yet?!" Rin groaned, frantically searching the muggle section bookshelves with James and Sirius snickering beside her.
"What book are you searching for, Nesrin?" A voice behind them asked.
The three of them turned and were met with a tall guy with bright blond hair and dark eyes.
"Leonard!" Rin squeaked, her rosy cheeks turning darker.
Leonard smirked and held his hand out to James. "Hey, I'm Leonard Dexter. A pleasure to meet you. Especially you Rin."
Rin blushed even redder and looked away.
James glared at him but didn't shake his hand. "How old are you, Leonard Dexter?"
He smirked confidently. "Same year as you."
Sirius frowned at Leonard. "Oh? Well, then why haven't we ever seen you before?" He asked, though a little less angrily than James
He flicked his head, trying to get his blond hair out of his face. "I'm a Hufflepuff. Probably explains why."
James glared even more but he ignored him, turning his attention to Rin instead.
"So what book were you looking for?"
Rin blushed even more, if that was even possible, "The Peter Johnson books," she replied. "My friend Lily told me that the last book of the series- The Final God was released last week. I can't seem to find it here though."
Leonard laughed lightly. "The Peter Johnson books? Oh, they're awesome! My favourite character is Annabelle Chance. She kind of reminds me of you- strong, smart, beautiful and kind of a badass."
"Thanks!" Rin said giddily.
Leonard continued on "The Final God won't be coming here to Flourish and Blotts," gesturing around him.
"Oh," Rin said, a little disappointed.
"But," Leonard smiled. "They are available at that muggle-wizard bookshop down the road."
"Really?" Rin grinned
Sirius furrowed his eyebrows a little, not understanding what was so great about these Peter Johnson books.
"I was about to go there, actually, after I finished buying my school books. Want to come with me?" He asked.
"Oh Merlin no!" James growled, finally regaining his senses and taking a step forward. "She's going nowhere with you! I'm not going to let my sister run off with some boy!"
Sirius found himself agreeing with James and nodding.
Rin scoffed angrily. "And who are you to tell me what to do?! You don't control me, James! And yes, Leonard, I will go the bookstore with you. I just need to buy my school books too, and we will be off."
Half an hour later, they were done buying books.
Both James and Sirius were spying on them the whole time.
Well, James was. He was just forcing Sirius to too.
Leonard and Rin began to walk towards them.
They panicked and hid behind stacks of books.
Luckily, they both walked past them.
"James!" Rin cried. "Sirius!"
The boys emerged from behind the books and walked towards them.
"Yes, dear sister?"
She narrowed her eyes at them. "I'm going to the other bookstore with Leonard. Do not; I repeat, DO NOT follow me. Get that?"
She smiled, satisfied at James' nod and walked out of the bookstore with Leonard trailing after her.
James waited until they were out of sight and then smirked. "You didn't say no to any take backs!" He grabbed Sirius' arm and discreetly followed them.
"Have you read that book called 'The Error in our Celestials', Rin?"
"Er, no actually. I'm planning to read it after I finish the Peter Johnson books. Have you read it? Are they any good?"
"Very good. You definitely need to read it. You-" Leonard stopped and turned sharply, looking over his shoulder.
"What's wrong, Leonard?" Rin asked, touching his arm.
"Nothing." He narrowed his eyes, scanning the surroundings behind him. "I thought I heard something behind us."
James and Sirius, who were hiding behind a bush, let out a breath they were holding.
"Thank Merlin they didn't see us! This would've been a lot easier if I had my invisibility cloak with me. Now let's-"
"Are we sure mate? Why are we even doing this?!"
"To make sure that Dexter won't try anything with my sister!"
"Then why are you pulling me along?!"
"Cause you're like a brother to her too, Sirius!"
Sirius groaned a little but agreed nonetheless.
They turned to follow them again but Rin and Leonard had vanished.
"What- Where- They must've reached the bookstore while we were talking!" He grabbed Sirius by the front of his shirt and dragged him toward that direction.
Rin blushed as the hands of the pair brushed together. He didn't pull away though, but instead, he grabbed onto her hand and interlaced his fingers with hers.
"HE'S BLOODY HOLDING HER HAND!" James whispered angrily, seeing red and getting up from their hiding spot.
"Whoa, calm down Prongs! You don't want them to spot us, do you? How'd you think Rin would react if she found out we were following her even after she told you not to?!"
"Bu-But- He's holding her hand!" James whined like a five-year-old, stomping his foot.
"I know mate," Sirius rolled his eyes at him. "I don't like it either. But let it be."
They had to spend the next few minutes watching Leonard and Rin be all touchy-feely and buy the book.
"Crap! They're coming out!" Sirius shrieked and pulled James away from the window.
"Oh! It's nearly one-thirty!" They heard Rin. "My parents told me to meet them at the Leaky Cauldron for lunch!"
Leonard pouted. "I thought that you would like to eat lunch with me!"
Rin's eyes went wide in surprise and Sirius felt James stiffen beside him.
"Like a... Like a date?"
Leonard smirked. "Well, only if you want it to be."
"YES! I mean... sure, yeah. It's cool. Whatever. I'll just need to tell my parents that I'm eating with you!"
James was fuming in anger and was about to get up and object when Sirius stopped him. "Let them be Prongs." He said even though he felt a little angry himself. "They're still going to eat at the same restaurant, right? This way you will be able to keep an eye on them."
James grunted but agreed.
"Mum! Dad!" Rin yelled, spotting them talking to a couple outside the leaky cauldron.
"Hello dear," Her mum said, smiling at her. "These are our colleagues from work," She gestured to the couple they were talking to "Mary and Richard Dexter!"
With a start, Rin realised that the couple was Leonard's parents. She opened her mouth to say something but was cut off by her dad.
"They'll actually be eating with us. We were just waiting for you to come so we could all go inside. Actually, speaking of, where are your brother and Sirius?"
"Here!" Sirius said, suddenly appearing beside them with James.
"Can we all go eat together now?" James asked, glancing at his sister.
"Well yes..." Mrs. Dexter said, searching the area around her. "Now we just need our son Leonard to be here. Where is that boy?"
Well shit.
Looks like she would not be having her first date now.
"I saw Leonard going inside, Mrs. Dexter. Shall we go eat now?" She said glumly.
'What the hell?!" Leonard mouthed to Rin, his eyes flitting towards his parents who were walking alongside her's.
She sighed and shook her head, while James smirked and hi-fived his mate in satisfaction.
"Its okay, Rin," Leonard whispered into her ear, stabbing a piece of chicken onto his fork. "We could go out for our first Hogsmead visit; there will be no annoying parents there."
Rin smiled slightly at this and continued with her food, but this time more cheerfully.
Though unfortunately, James had heard the conversation between them and was already planning out ways to sabotage their first date.
Leonard would not get away this easy and be allowed to date his sister.

I kinda wrote this a long time ago and thought it was such a cool and long chapter. But now later, while I was adding all the gifs and stuff before publishing, I'm like, What the flobberworm even is this?!
Anyways, fans will know what Peter Johnson refers to.
The error in our celestials is the fault in our stars, but I haven't read that book yet.
