²⁶ Jealousy and Picnics

"That sounds like what your mum said the day you were born."

─────☆─────

☆    "RIN!" EUPHEMIA Potter called.

The Potters and the Black were at the table, having their breakfast when a knock sounded at the front door, and Euphemia had gotten up to answer it.

"Yes, mum?" she went up to her.

"It's for you," She gestured towards the door. "Your boyfriend is here."

"But my boy-" she exchanged a brief look with Sirius. "nevermind,"

She went to the door, eyes widening when she saw who it was.

    "Leonard!"

So did Sirius' eyes when he heard the name, straining himself to eavesdrop on their conversation a bit more clearly over the noise of scraping plates.

The shock and surprise were evident on Rin's face at the sight of her ex, but she quickly wiped her face void of any emotion.

"Why are you here?" she asked, her voice freezing cold,

    "Nesrin- Rin- I am. . . sorry."

    She rolled her eyes.

"I am!" Leonard exclaimed. "You must listen to me! Please! I still love you!"

Sirius slammed his cutlery on the table and stood up, hurrying to the doorway to give Dexter a punch in the face, though stopping when he heard Rin speak.

"Unbelievable" she scoffed angrily. "Leonard, do you even hear what you're saying? You cheated on me! I hate you, you disgusting pig!" She yelled.

"And you did not love me!" Rin continued. "If you did, you would not have done what you did!"

"I'm sorry!" He cried. "Will you please forgive me?" He asks, producing a bouquet of flowers out of nowhere. "Cheating on you was a mistake!"

"Oh yeah?" Rin took the flowers out of the teen's hand, glowering at the hopeful look appearing in his eye.

"That sounds like what your mum said the day you were born." She smirked and tore the bouquet in half.

All was silent for a tense moment until Sirius burst out laughing, giving away his position.

The teens at the door swivelled their heads to see him.

"Brilliant joke, Rin" Sirius grins. "Oh, wait-" His smirk deepened. "A joke? That sounds an awful lot like your existence, Dexter!"

Both the Black and Potter burst out in laughter, unable to hold it in anymore.

"Fine, then." Leonard gritted his teeth and turned away and walked off, muttering maledictions under his breath.

    "That was pure gold-"

"Gold?" Sirius whispers, cupping Rin's cheeks and placing several kisses on them, making her redden. "Gold sounds a lot like what you are."

"Stop!" Rin squeals when Sirius peppers kisses up and down her neck. "Someone might see us!"

    "So? I don't care."

"But I do!" Rin pushes him off of herself, fixing her hair, and Sirius frowned, then the both of them walked back in.

"Where's Leonard, dear?" Euphemia asked her daughter when she entered the kitchen, Sirius following in after her. "Why didn't you invite your boyfriend in?"

"He's not her boyfriend," Sirius said hotly, crossing his arms in front of him, Euphemia looked at him a little confused.

"He's right, mum." Rin cast a worried glance at Sirius, subtly squeezing his hand, his shoulders became less tense.

An action that did not go unnoticed by the mother.

"We did break up." Rin quickly let go of the boy's hand when she saw her mother eyeing their fingers laced through the others.

"Pity," Euphemia smiled, still a little confused by what had just happened between the two teens in front of her. "Sorry about what happened, dear."

"Don't be," Rin chuckled darkly. "He cheated on me,"

    "Merlin's beard!"

"I know, mum. I found out on the night of the Christmas dance, too."

"How dare that boy!" She gasped, a hand covering her mouth.

"But I'm okay now," Rin grinned, casting a soft, quick look at the boy beside her.

    "Of course, you are."

─────☆─────

It was past midnight, and Sirius was on his way towards Rin's bedroom from his room, a bright flame dancing inside the lamp in his grasp.

Sirius won't ever admit it, not to a single soul, but he was a little jealous when Dexter had appeared at the house.

    Just a little.

Though he had no idea why he felt that way. He had nothing to be jealous of. Rin was his girlfriend, not Dexter's.

But knew why, of course, deep down in his heart.

Rin had always been a little anxious that anyone would find out about their relationship.

She freaked out a little when Lily saw them together, but in the end, she had to tell Dorcas too, but they were her best friends, so it was kind of okay for her.

He could only imagine what she'd do when she realises that Remus knows too.

Why was she so opposed to the idea of anyone knowing about them?

He shook his head of the thoughts, reaching Rin's bedroom door and slowly creaking it open.

He set the lamp down and bent down to her ear.

    "Rin," he whispered.

She stirred a bit but did nothing else.

Sirius' eyes trailed down the bed, freezing when he reached a particular area.

    "Blood-" he gasped.

"Rin!" He yelped, shaking her harshly, panicked. "Please wake up! You're bleeding!"

"Gah!" Rin shot up her bed, bonking her head against Sirius'

"Ow," she muttered, rubbing her forehead. "Sirius!" She looked surprised to see him in her bedroom.

    "Why are you here?"

"Blood!" He said frantically, paying no heed to Rin's question.

"What-?" Rin glanced down at her sheets, her cheeks reddening at the sight of the rather large blotch of red on it.

"I'm not dying or anything, Sirius." She got out of bed, heading towards her bathroom.

"It's just that my time of the month started."

"Oh," he blushed and turned his gaze away.

"Anyways," Rin smiled at her boyfriend after exiting the bathroom. "Why are you here so late at night?"

Sirius just held up a basket in his hand for her to see. "Midnight Picnic part two?" He grinned sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.

The huge beaming smile from her was gorgeous to Sirius.

    "Rin?"

    "Mm?"

The couple were resting on the trunk of a tree and staring at the stars, their hands intertwined.

"I have something to tell you,"

    "Go on,"

    "Remus knows about us."

"What!" She twisted away from Sirius, a horrified, shocked look on her face.

    "How?! When!?"

    Sirius frowned at her reaction.

"The night we had our first midnight picnic-"

"That long ago! Why are you only telling me this now?! Merlin, Sirius! We weren't supposed to let anyone find out! We already broke the rule with Dorcas and Lily, but now, Remus knows too! Why didn't you tell me sooner?!"

"Why are you so against anyone finding out about us?!" Sirius snapped, a furrow forming on his face.

"Are you-" He hesitated. "Are you ashamed of me?" He asked softly, a miserable look on his face.

"No- of course not- why would you think that-" Rin gasped, taking his hand in hers, making him look up at her.

"Because you act so. . .horrified whenever someone finds out about us, you blow up whenever the subject is brought up-"

"That's not because I'm not ashamed of you, Sirius!" Rin cried.

"I'm just being cautious! There's a high chance James might find out about us from someone else, and that might cause us to not be together anymore, James would make sure of that. And I, for one,"

She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him softly. "Would not want that to happen," She whispered against his lips.

Sirius smiled and reciprocated the kiss, wrapping his arms around her waist.

"Don't you think it pains me, Sirius?" They break their embrace, Sirius looking at her questioningly.

"That I cannot hold hands with you in the halls, in front of pubic?" She continued. "That I cannot kiss you unless we're alone in a locked room, or we cannot go to the Slug Club parties and dance together-"

"Ah," Sirius grinned. "The Slug Club parties! That's the only thing I'm happy about not doing in public with you! To think, you'll have to go alone and without a date, can't even dance with anyone-"

    Rin groaned. "I hate you!"

Sirius laughed, squeezing her cheek with his hand. "You love me, really."

Rin nuzzled into his palm, a soft smile present on her face. "Yeah, I do." She whispered.

Both of them tensed as the words left her mouth, their eyes wide as they stared at each other.

Sirius abruptly stood up, eyes still wide and surprised.

Rin attempted to get up after him. "Sirius- I-"

The boy didn't say anything but just left.

    "Sirius!" A panic-stricken Rin yelled, watching his figure retreating in the dark, turning into a small blob until it completely disappeared;

Leaving the poor Rin outside, tear-filled and alone.
