IT HAD ONLY TAKEN a few days for Lorelai and Corpse to overcome the awkwardness that came from their very brief misunderstanding. There was no regret from either side, however, because even if neither of them said it, both of them knew they needed to have that conversation. They had been drawn to each other whenever they were going through something, so addressing why that happened was imperative to their future friendship.
This takes them to the present, where Lorelai leans on the counter in her bathroom, applying her mascara as Corpse laughs at her through her phone. They were on FaceTime (does it even count as FaceTime when Corpse's screen remains black?) and apparently Corpse found amusement in watching Lorelai get ready. It's Halloween, and in honor of the holiday and the special stream they had planned, Lorelai was dressing up for her stream. The process behind her costume, however, was a bit too funny for Corpse.
"Corpse, shut the fuck up," she giggles, lowering her hand and glaring at the phone propped up on her countertop. "You're unhelpful."
"If you wanted help you would've called Rae or Marzia," Corpse points out with a shit eating grin for no one but himself to see.
Lorelai rolls her eyes and finishes her mascara. Corpse had guessed she was going as Coraline the moment she shoved her hair into a wig cap and put on the short blue wig. Even though she had still been in her jeans and black tank top, Corpse had just known.
"So, based on the fact that you called me, I'd say getting help wasn't your main focus," Corpse says.
"Shut it," Lorelai replies, her cheeks turning pink under her blush.
She drops the mascara tube onto the counter and runs her fingers through the blue strands of her wig. Corpse watches with a warm smile, admiring the way she seemed so at peace in the moment compared to the distressed and annoyed Lorelai from a few minutes ago when she had been struggling to do her left eye with her right hand. A few more seconds pass and she reaches for her phone, picking it up off the counter and walking back into her bedroom with it.
"Alright, it's time for the full fit," Lorelai smiles.
She sets her phone down on her desk so that all Corpse can see is the blue glow of her monitors on the ceiling as Lorelai grabs her yellow raincoat. The raincoat, which was bought at a home improvement store five minutes away from her house and was in no way stylish, had been altered by Marzia to not drown Lorelai's figure. When they first bought it, they had bought an XXL because that was the only size in stock, yet with a bit of sewing and altering from Marzia, they had gotten it to fit her. It wasn't perfect, but at least Lorelai no longer looked like a real life Ms. Pac-Man blob.
Lorelai props her phone up against her computer and smiles at the camera. Corpse drinks in her appearance from her large smile to the way the sleeves of her raincoat were just a little too long. She turns for the camera with a giggle before sitting down in her chair and starting up her computer and monitor,
"So? Thoughts, feelings, opinions?" She asks.
Corpse can't hide the tenderness in his voice when he replies, "you look pretty."
"Thank you," Lorelai says, her smile somehow growing even larger. "Hey, what time is the game starting?"
"Two."
"What time is that for you?"
"Six."
Lorelai nods, briefly acknowledging the fact that Corpse had translated the time for her. When she had been asked to join the Halloween stream, it had been clarified that they would do it at a time that was in the evening for the west coast but also not terribly late for Lorelai. Deep down she knew her friends would rather have their Halloween stream later in the night, and she truly did feel bad about making them do early streams, but when she told them she was okay with not joining the stream so they could do it at a later time, they had strongly protested it.
In all honesty, Lorelai had no clue what the game they were going to be playing was. She hadn't heard of it before or played it. But at least it was a large group of streamers, and at least they were all supposed to be getting drunk. It was highly unlikely that they'd be playing seriously.
Lorelai grabs the bottle of vodka sitting on her floor (another great idea from Lorelai Kunz) and moves it onto her desk. "So what'd you get for tonight?"
"Wine," he replies, eyes darting to the red wine bottle on his desk. "I didn't peg you as a vodka drinker." His eyes notice the bottle Lorelai just placed on her desk.
Lorelai shrugs. "Eh. I'll drink anything for the most part. I just get drunk quicker with vodka."
Corpse nods, a soft hum of understanding leaving his lips. He starts to boot up his computer as the clock on his wall ticks dangerously closer to six. Unlike Lorelai, he wasn't dressed up in a Halloween costume, but rather still wearing his black sweatpants and sweatshirt. He hadn't even bothered to tame his hair which was obvious because of the curly locks of hair dangling into his eyes.
Maybe he should set a reminder to get his hair cut soon.
"Hey, I'm gonna go start my stream," Corpse says, watching as Lorelai diverts her gaze from her monitors back down to her phone, "I'll see you in game."
"Bye, Corpse," she smiles.
The call ends, and she shuts off her phone. With a deep breath, she opens up her OBS and starts to do her final checks. The checks are trivial things like making sure her scenes are set up and her sub count is accurate, and in ten minutes, she's clicking her mouse over the 'go live' button and watching as people flood into her chat. Her waiting screen is showing with music playing (a specially curated Halloween playlist she made for October which is currently playing 'The Monster Mash'), so Lorelai leans back in her chair in preparation to wait for viewers to roll in.
Her phone buzzes sporadically for the next five minutes as other friends start their streams. Her patience runs out when she notices Fuslie go live, and she replaces her waiting screen with her full facecam scene.
"Hi, chat," she smiles, waving sweetly at her camera. The chat explodes into hearts and 'happy Halloween's, and Lorelai lowers the volume on her music to be able to be heard better. "Happy Halloween! As you can probably tell, I'm Coraline! And it's actually not Halloween for me anymore, it's November, but I'm playing with Americans, so you do what ya gotta do."
She watches her chat happily.
"Now, chat, I won't lie, I'm not sure what game we're playing," Lorelai admits. "But I know some of us are drinking, so I've got some vodka, and we're just gonna wing it."

CLIP FROM LORELAI !
"big brain corpse"
"No, we didn't," Corpse replied as the protests of the locked out streamers could be heard in the room they were hiding in.
"Who's in here?" Lorelai wondered aloud.
"The temporal differential we call wakefulness is the cosmic interaction of subatomic particles operating on a quantum level," Corpse says before walking out of the room.
Lorelai fixed her chat with a confused stare. "What?"
"That's what Lud says," Faye chimes in, following Corpse out of the room.
"What the fuck?" Lorelai asked. "What did he just say? What in the ever-loving fuck just happened?"
CLIP FROM LORELAI !
"drunk lorelai"
"Corpse!" Lorelai exclaimed with a giggle, a smile appearing on her face as she moved her character closer to Corpse. "I thought you died!"
"Nope," he replied. "Wanna see what I found?"
She nodded. "Sure."
The two streamers head to the room with the PA system; Lorelai's eyes widened as she looked at the machine. She quickly raced up to it, scanning it over for a way to use it.
"What do I say?" She asked, turning to look at Corpse's avatar for a response.
"I don't know," he replied.
Lorelai nodded and turned on the system. "Hello! Hi! I really like vodka, guys. I thought everybody should know. Oh! Hi, Edgar!" She picked up the pug and holds him up to the stream, forgetting she was on the PA system. "Everyone say hi to Edgar!"
The time ran out and Lorelai turned back to Corpse.
"How drunk are you?" He laughed.
"Great!" Lorelai exclaimed, her answer confusing Corpse and coaxing more laughter out of him. They were going insane.
