CHAPTER SEVEN

WHO'S COSMO

"What do you mean ' there's a darkness in Blue Valley?" Melaina asked as she put the cat onto her bed making it jump back into her arms. "You know what I don't want to know right now. I just had a horrible night so we'll talk in the morning."

"It is the morning." The boy teased.

"You know what I mean." She spat before picking up the cat. "Now take your car and come back at a decent hour. Blue Valley won't be in shambles by 9AM."

The boy took the cat before letting out a sigh. "Yeah it's a little 'late' but meet us at Marty's at 10AM latest."

Within moments the same purple and blue smoke from earlier appeared, swarmed around the two before they disappeared.

"It hasn't even been six hours." The girl groaned before moving the tech to her desk.

She rubbed her eyes before letting out a yawn and walking over to her bed. As she pulled the covers away she saw the same cat she gave to the strange boy that was in her room.

"The hell?" She whisper yelled as the cat slept. "I'm to tired to move you so you'll stay the night. But tomorrow you go. Capeesh?"

The cat simply switched the sides it was lying on so the curly haired girl took that as a yes. She got into bed and pulled the covers up to her shoulders before feeling the cat snuggle up to her. She froze in shock for a moment but then felt an overwhelming feeling of comfort come from this feline and in moments she was fast asleep.

For the first time in days. No. Months, Melaina slept properly. No nightmares, no waking up in a pool of sweat or late nights because she couldn't sleep.

When she awoke she still felt the cat snuggled against her chest and she wasn't bothered at all.

After getting ready for the day the girl headed downstairs to see her younger sister eating a bowl of cereal while sitting on one of the bar stools.

She looked up and noticed her come in. "Morning sleepyhead."

"Good morning kiddo."

"I noticed you slept well last night."

Melaina went to the fridge and pulled out a breakfast burrito. "Yeah I guess I did."

"That's good...cool...cool...cool."

Those words made Melaina turn to her sister. "Hestia, you only reference Jake Peralta when something is bothering you. So what's happening?"

"Did you leave the JSA?" The curly haired girl froze, took a deep breath and put the burrito on a plate and into the microwave.

"How do you know about that?"

"Mike called me yesterday. He seemed worried about Courtney and the team. He kind of blames himself." The 14 year old explained.

"Why would be blame himself?"

"Well you missed a lot. He basically got the Thunderbolt to work and then managed to help the team find out where the Shade, blah blah blah, stuff happens the team gets their asses kicked and get pissed at you."

"Well tell him it's not his fault." She responded.

"That's what I said then Courtney tried to come over here earlier to talk to you but before she could say anything Josie whisked her away." The younger girl informed her older sister. "Why is Jo acting well weird?"

"I don't know and at this point I really don't care." Those words made the young girl freeze.

"You don't care? But it's Melaina and Josephine you two are literally Tiana and Charlotte. How could you not care?" Hestia blurted.

Melaina looked at her phone, she had to be at Martina's in 20 minutes. She quickly stuffed her face before washing her hands at the basin while taking in her sisters words.

"It's a lot more complicated than it seems Tia. I wish I could explain but what can I explain what I don't understand."

"Is it that bad?" The girl asked.

"Yep unfortunately." Melaina dried her hands. "I'm gonna meet up with Tina and the rest of the gang. Talk later?"

"Yeah sure. I'm gonna go see August and take him to meet Mike. He hasn't called me back which is kind of weird." Tia explained.

"Text me when you get to him." Melaina said quickly before running out of the kitchen.

After packing a small bag, Melaina was at Martina's rented home for the summer within seconds.

She walked in to see Martina, CJ, Daisy and the boy from earlier conversing with each other in the living room.

The boy spotted her first and walked up to her.

"I don't think I've properly introduced myself." He bowed in front of the girl with a small smirk while Melaina raised her eyebrows and pursed her lips. "Dominic Kalino Kekoa. My friends call me Kai."

"Melaina Astrid Prince-Dumont ." She introduced her as she mocked his bow. "My friends call me Melaina."

"I see you've been aquatinted to Cosmo." Kai added as he glanced behind her.

"Who's Cosmo?"

"The ginger fellow who's probably been following you since our meeting earlier." He explained as the cat came and rubbed herself against her leg making her freeze.

"What the- I locked her in my room!" Melaina exclaimed as she picked up the feline.

"If you haven't put it together yet. She isn't a normal cat. Maybe not even a cat at all." He finished before walking her towards the others.

"So what's up? Why do we need to have an emergency meeting?" Melaina asked the group as she sat down in between Kai and CJ, she put the cat on her lap.

"So this morning we came over to not only warn you but tell you about Eclipso." Tina started as she glanced over to Kai.

"This big bad guy has been at the top of wanted list for every single witch Coven known to the world." He said before he mumbled a spell and a board appeared in the living room. "I present to you." He started before flipping the board to reveal a bunch of old pictures and sketches of the being. "Eclipso."

"He says while doing bloody jazz hands." Daisy commented.

"I'm trying to lighten the mood." He emphasised making her role her eyes. "Anyways. We think we think Eclipso may be in Blue Valley."

"Why do you think that?" Harley asked the boy.

"Glad you asked. Well for one the covens of the world have finally marked a confirmed location of this little devil after a couple years, it's hard to say."

"Why did it take so long to find him?" Melaina asked the two magic folk.

"That's the thing about the bastard. A witch or any person of magical decent can only track him when his powers are active, whether he's in the diamond or not that's the only way someone can track him." Kai explained.

"Which is why the Coven only found him now, someone pulled him out of his hole and now he's going to do something really bad." Marty added making the group share a look.

"What can he do? Like what are his powers?" Daisy asked the two.

"We don't know exactly but from what we've been told and been allowed to read, he can make you see your worst nightmares." The boy told them.

Melaina began to look down at Cosmo, who over the short period of time where the curly haired girl had been stroking her, had fallen asleep.

If the girl was being truly honest, she didn't want anything to do with this, she really didn't.  She stroked the cat as she let out a sigh.

"Melaina?" Marty called making the girl lift her head up to face her, feeling her friends stares.

"Yeah?"

"I know you just left a team." The latina started.

"Wait you left the JSA?" Harley asked in shock.

"Yep." She answered bluntly.

"Aren't they like your friends or something like that?" Daisy commented.

"I mean Josie can't be in a hundred percent evil witch mode, right?" Harley questioned.

"I don't know." She quivered before clearing her throat. "I'm sorry I just can't be involved in any of this at all right now. I really don't want to wear that suit."

"Mel I know you're not in the mood for any of this but we really need your help. You're the only one of us who's lived in Blue Valley long enough to actually know the dark corners of this town and where he might be hiding." Kai insisted making Marty add on.

"Once we know more Kai and I will call our coven elders and then we'll be done. No more Scooby gang."

"Fine." Melaina groaned before picking up Cosmo, then an idea came to mind. "How old does a witch have to be to become an elder, maybe we could get a bit of advice from one?"

"Over a hundred at least but we don't know any near by. The best ones we know are either in Salem or New Orleans." Kai added.

"I know an elder. Who I actually know quite well." Melaina explained with a smirk

Little did Melaina know, things were about to get much worse and bringing Molly into it would do more harm than good.
