CHAPTER NINE
WHEN DID YOU GET A CAT
The moment it was office hours for Molly Parker the newly formed team had planned to meet there at noon.
Melaina had found herself tinkering away with her project. Earlier that morning she received a part from Bruce which she took from her mail box an hour ago and she had been figuring out how to add the component to the rest of...well it.
Melaina didn't really know what she was making necessary. Was she making a suit? Yes. Did she know what part of the suit she was ok exactly? No.
All she had of the suit was the hexagon chest plate. Although she had to hide the machinery that came in bits and pieces because she didn't want her family or Josie finding out.
She had finished building the chest plate a few hours ago and now she was trying to make sure each piece folded out of the chest place perfectly and shaped around the mannequin of Bruce's body.
There was a case with the mannequin that she had to put together to test the suit properly.
She grabbed the black case from under the bed. Like the case with the components and other stuff this case had a password. She typed the password into the small screen on top and it clicked open.
After putting the mannequin together she noticed something, this mannequin wasn't in the build for a man, it was in the build for a woman. She shrugged it off and put the chest plate on making four straps instantly wrap around the upper body.
She held the keyboard in her hand and quickly checked the program. Everything looked right. So she pushed the red inner hexagon making it light up.
"Yes!" Melaina said in excitement as a small smile formed on Cosmo's face as the ginger feline lied on the girls bed.
The technology came out of the chest plate and formed a suit on the mannequin. From the top down; a mask covering the mouth and covered the rest of the body down to the feet.
The girl held the keyboard to her chest in pride as she looked at the sleek design. As she was putting the keyboard on her carpet she noticed a note inside the mannequin case.
Your mom mentioned that you got into the family business.
Take it from me.You can never have to many suits.
There's another case coming with a few more things you can add, go crazy kid.
But stay out of trouble or else your mom will kill us both
yours truly
uncle bruce
A smile formed on her face as she read the letter. This entire thing was for her. She'd have to make adjustments but at least her months of work would pay off.
As she traced her hand over the suit as she noticed her smile in the reflection.
Melaina was pulled out of her trance when her dad knocked on her door. Quickly she tried to push the inner hexagon button again but the suit decided to glitch and not go back into the chest plate.
"Damn it!" Melaina huffed before quickly standing in front of the mannequin. "Come in!"
"Hey honey, we're back." Eddie said as he walked into his second daughters room to find her trying to block his view of something.
"Already?"
"We said we'd be gone for a few days." He reminded her as he tried to see what she was hiding.
"Oh...okay." The girl responded quickly as she tried to hide the suit from her dad. "Well you and mom probably have to go unpack so-"
"Your grandmothers saw you working on something, you're really bad at hiding it." He cut her off making her frown and step aside to reveal what she had been working on.
The man was in shock. He knew that she had been tinkering in her room for a couple months but he assumed that it was just a school project, until Atlanna had called him telling him that she saw his daughter bring in a huge black case. Diana recognized the described case to be something from Wayne industries.
"This is-"
"Needs a lot of adjustments and it's really glitchy I know."
"Amazing." She smiled. "I mean it took me years to properly design and build better battle suits for the other creatures of the deep but this is amazing Melaina.
"Thanks dad. It's not ready yet but it might be soon."
"I think maybe you can add this too it." The prince said before revealing a shiny blue case with a trident symbol. "A little piece of Atlantean technology to make it feel more 'homey."
The girl took the case before quickly pulling her father into a hug. The hug surprised him but he hugged back.
"When did you get a cat?" He asked the girl when he noticed a ginger cat sound asleep on her bed.
"That is a very long story but thanks for this." Melaina said to her father.
"Uh if it's okay? Your mother and I want to have a family dinner tonight. Your mom is cooking."
"Yeah that sounds great. I'll see you later." Melaina responded before he left the room.
The girl checked the time on her phone and realised that she had to get ready to go see Molly with the rest of the team.
She quickly packed away the components and tools she had spread across her carpet. She tried again to press the button but it didn't go back so she quickly covered it with one of her trench coats and put it in the corner.
The fifteen year old quickly checked herself in her mirror to make sure she looked presentable. Once she made a few adjustments she grabbed her phone and dashed downstairs and ran out the door.

Melaina paced up and down in front of the American Dream building where they planned to meet up because they didn't know where her office was.
She stopped pacing around when she realised where she was standing.
In the exact same place she stood last time, the day everything changed for her.
Melaina froze in her place as she watched Jordan Mahkent's skin turn to ice as he let out a scream before the pick up truck hit the man and he shattered. The man become no more than a couple shards of ice.
The emotions that Melaina felt that day but didn't show in that moment began bubble up but before she felt everything explode, she felt someone shake her gently.
"Melaina." Daisy shook the girl.
Melaina gasped as she realised what was happening and who was actually there. "Yeah?"
She looked down and felt Cosmo nudge her ankle with her paw. "I'm okay Cosmo." She picked up the cat and kissed her head.
"Shall we?" Kai said as he and Marty joined the three.
Harley, Daisy, Kai and Marty followed Melaina through the streets of the town. After a few turns the group made it to the office.
The group was buzzed in and walked into the waiting room. "Melaina-" she greeted before noticing the group. "And friends. I'm sorry my trip took longer than expected. London witches are a bit much sometimes. So what's up?"
"We have a slight hiccup." Melaina told the witch as she moved Cosmo to her other shoulder.
"Hiccup and when did you get a cat?"
"You call a spiritual demon being on the radar a 'slight hiccup?" Marty pointed out as she looked at her friend making her shrug her shoulder.
"Spiritual demon?" Molly's face shifted from a confused one to a slightly shocked one. "You don't mean Eclipso?"
"How do you-"
"I'm over 300 years old of course I know who that bastard is." Molly pointed out. "How did he even get out?"
"He hasn't, but someone has pulled him out of his hole. Now the diamond is in Blue Valley and we're trying to figure out how to stop him." Kai explained to the elder.
"Well the thing is, Eclipso is a complicated problem. Taking him down will make me have to check some very old books and consult with some other covens and I'll get back to you in a couple hours." Molly assured to the kids.
Kai turned to the brunette."Thank you Miss Parker, now we must-"
The seventeen year old was interrupted by the sound of squeaking and scratchy magic, the sounds of metal being forced against each other.
That caught everyone's attention as they grimaced at the noise. Martina pulled out a metal sphere with a crystal in the centre. The crystal was glowing black and the rings inside the magic sphere were spinning profusely making the noise.
"Martina switch the bloody noise off!" Daisy said as she covered her ears with her hands.
"I can't. After you all left yesterday, Kai and I cast a spell on this detecting sphere, to detect any activity of Eclipso's diamond. It's just been used." Martina explained as she took the sphere in her hands.
The witch closed her eyes as the spinning rings slowed down and the crystal dimmed down. She opened her eyes and the glowing purple in them dimmed down as well.
"It was used at the school on this teacher and the JSA just got there." Martina added on before stuffing the sphere into her pockets.
Out of the corner of her eye Melaina noticed Mollys face shift at the mention of the JSA. "Molly?"
"You need to get to the school right now." The elder told the teenagers.
"Why? What's going on?" Harley asked.
"Josie can't get near any of the darkness that's just been freed. If she does-she didn't tell you about what she found out?"
"She hasn't exactly told me anything since Christmas so..."
"I figured out why she's been acting out but you have to get Josie out of there. She can't get near any of that darkness." Molly repeated to the kids who just watched her with confused looks. "I'll explain everything later but now you have to run and go save them, all of them. Before it's too late."
The look on Mollys face showed how urgent this was so within seconds the group dashed out the door and ran down the street.
Hopefully they weren't to late.
Because after today, nothing will be the same.
