CHAPTER THREE

EVERYTHING IS HUNKY DORY

Melaina groaned when she felt the light hit her face. "Ugh! Mom!"

"You need to get up. They'll be here soon." Diana told the girl as she pulled the covers over her face.

"I don't want to." She mumbled.

"I know you don't honey." Diana said as she sat down on the edge of her daughters bed. "I'm sorry we changed things last minute, I know how much you wanted to go out of town."

"No I needed to get out of town. I can't stay here anymore, it's driving me crazy." Melaina responded as she moved the blanket to her chest.

"I get it I really do but maybe this might be the distraction you'll need to feel a little better." Diana told the girl. "But you really do need to get up because they'll be here in about 30 minutes."

After Diana left her room, Melaina dragged herself out of bed to her bathroom to take a quick shower and then change into her pair of white docs, black wide legged pants, faded pink shirt which she tucked in and an oversized denim jacket and quickly combed out her hair.

She quickly cleaned up her room before leaving her room. She briefly passed Josephine who she barely looked at before heading down stairs and the brunette being right behind her.

The two heard laughter from the residents of this home and from three other people that one of them didn't recognise but the other who did rushed down stairs.

"August King, wow you have grown." Melaina gushed as the 14 year olds boy ran into her arms.

"You look the same." The brunette said bluntly making Melaina lightly shove his shoulder.

"Good morning my young apprentice." CJ greeted as she put her arm over her shoulder.

"Melaina dear it's so great to see you." Hadley King greeted the girl.

"Likewise Miss King. How's the moving process going?"

"Richard is coming here with our things today and then we'll start to settledown." Hadley answered as she had a sip of her coffee.

"How are you liking Blue Valley so far?" Edward asked his friend.

"It's really quiet and actually really peaceful I mean we're all used to metahumans running around everywhere. Here there's no bank robberies or end of the world scenarios." Hadley told him making her two children smile. "We actually better get going back to the house to make sure everything is ready for when our stuff get here."

"I will call you later." Harley said as she stood up while August and Hestia did a handshake.

A few hours later Melaina walked with CJ, her two cousins and friends from Themysciria as she showed them around the town.

A few hours prior moments after the Kings left her aunt Lisa arrived with Willie and Wylan and her mother joining them was the leader or queen of Themysciria herself Hippolyta and two of the women of that island and their children who Melaina met during her time at Themysciria the year before.

"Is it always this quiet?" Daisy asked in her British accent.

"Nope, it used to be but now it absolutely is not now." Melaina replied earning a look from Harley who understood what she meant.

"Can we eat something I'm hungry." Wylan said.

"You're always Hungry." Willow stated as the group crossed the street.

"Richies is just around the corner so stop whining Wylan." Melaina teased making the group laugh.

As soon as they got in they found a table to sit at and ordered a few plates of fries and drinks

"So how has our little cousin been over the past... year?" Willow asked.

"It has sucked... so much." Melaina told them honestly as their fries and drinks came.

"It can't have been that bad?" Wylan said as he ate a fry.

"Oh but it has been." Melaina said gaining most of their attention. "Henry's dead, Joey's dead and I'm probably an accomplice to my boyfriends dad's death so yeah. Everything is hunky dory." She added as she raised her glass.

Daisy and Marty remembered her talking about this during he visit to Themysciria, at the time she surprisingly was, looked, seemed a lot better than she was now.

Now it seemed like she was, well worse than before like she was falling down a hole but was covering it with the cheerful town and sarcasm.

Harley noticed the sudden tension as the group began to quiet down. "Nope ... no, no, no! We are not going to talk about any of that right now because it's Summer andย  we all need a break from the superhero life drama." Harley started making the group smile a bit. "So a toast. To an amazing summer in a small town."

"To an amazing summer in a small town." They all repeated before they raised their glasses and clinked them in the air.

Josie had decided to go to Blue Valley High to meet up with Courtney and Yolanda to walk back with them.

"Jo do you think you could do some spell to actually make sure that Jennie is who she says she is?" Courtney asked her girlfriend as the three walked through the street.

"Court..."Josephine sighed.

"Please... for me." The girl begged as she intertwined her fingers with Josie's.

"Ugh fine." The three girls slowed down to a pause on the side wall before Josie's eyes glowed their reddish burgundy colour.

As the girls kept watch Josie saw a bunch of different images from when Jennie was a baby to her days in the group home.

"Yep she's definitely his kid." Josie told the two as the red in her eyes faded, Yolanda smiled in relief but Courtney scowled.

"Hey Josie, can I ask you something?" Yolanda asked the brunette.

"Yeah sure."

"What's happening with you and Melaina? You two have been extremely hostile with eachother since Christmas." Yolanda pointed out making Josie purse her lips.

"I just don't think we can trust her as much as we used to." The girl answered.

"What why?" Courtney asked her.

"Her relationship with Cameron, I'm just worried that her love for him will cloud her judgment." Yolanda and Courtney shared a look. "All I'm saying is that Melaina has been in love with Cameron since we were kids and now, especially since his dad, she might be willing to do anything for him."

"Okay, sure." Yolanda said sounding unsure of what the girl was saying, not believing that she would say those things about her own best friend.

"Speaking of Melaina, let's go get her fromย  Richies." Courtney said as she took out her phone. "She texted me earlier and said she would be there if we needed anything."

"Why is she at Richies?" Yolanda asked.

"She's with her cousins and friends."ย  Courtney explained.

After a few more minutes of walking the trio made it to Richies and found Melaina laughing with a group of people the three had never seen before.

"Hey Melaina." Courtney greeted making the chatter die down.

"Hey Court." Melaina responded before Daisy cleared her throat. "Oh my manners, these are my friends Daisy, Marty and Harley and my cousins Willow and Wylan. Guys this is Courtney, Yolanda and Josephine." She introduced point from the British girl from the left, to the Afro-latina, then the red head and to the two beside her.

The group awkwardly waved at the trio and the three did the same.

"Really don't want to interrupt this gathering but Melaina we have a thing we need to go sort out." Josephine told the girl making her furrow her eyebrows. "That kind of thing."

"Oh crap okay. Uhh Ceej when you are all done take them back to my place." She said as she pulled out some cash and gave it to the red head. "See you all later."

The four made their way to the Pit Stop where things were about to get way more complicated.
