Seattle Grace Hospital was buzzing with excitement as preparations for the 12-person kidney transplant that would be happening. Surgeons who were lucky enough to be apart of it were telling all those who would listen, the patient were undergoing the last tests they needed too, and even they were beyond excited to either receive a kidney or give one.

Oliver Lee-Sunny, his hands shaking with a mix of nerves and anticipation, couldn't believe he was part of Dr. Miranda Bailey's transplant team. This was the kind of surgery that surgeons dreamed about, and he was ready to prove himself — as an intern, this was a dream come true.

Oliver suited up in his fresh scrubs, taking off his stethoscope, the familiar weight of it disappearing from around his neck. He placed little protective booties over his shoes and then tucked the last bit of his hair into his light blue scrub cap.

"Alright, team, we've got six patients and six donors depending on us." Miranda Bailey spoke, and she spoke with a smile. Something that almost feels like a fever dream — she was excited, "we are going to have no casualties, got it?"

He glanced over at Meredith Grey, who was busy reviewing charts and prepping for the procedure. She caught his eye and gave him a small, yet slightly awkward, smile. Things between them were good, a little weird as Oliver had admitted to her that he and Venus were still friends — which had her slightly fuming.  Besides that the two were in a steady place of dating but not dating.

Inside operating room four was a whirlwind of activity as the transplants began. Oliver was assigned to assist Dr. Bailey, a small little hand out showing the trust she had in his abilities

His hands moved with practiced precision, something that he had never done in real life before other than on cadavers and fake plastic teaching bodies.

He was nervous now, as he turned towards where Meredith Grey had just placed the healthy kidney on a small table. It laid in a small metal bowl, full of ice and clean sterile liquid of some sort.

When his glove hands gently wrapped around the kidney, the world around him seemed to still as he took small steps.

And then the world sped up way too fast when the kidney slipped from his fingertips and went falling to the ground.

"Oh no!" Oliver cried out as he dropped to his knees and picked up the kidney with watering eyes. He stood on what felt like numb legs and stared at his resident. "Bailey ..."

"Put it back in the dish!" Bailey shouted as she took a quick step towards where Oliver had been standing, when she reached him and peered over his shoulder ay the kidney in a dish, she was fuming. "Oliver!"

He turned towards her, tears in his eyes, as he sniffled slightly, "I'm so so sorry. I can go."

Her heart melted, and she gave him a sympathetic look in her eyes. "It's okay —" she took a deep breath, a small part of her wondering if she should even say what she would say next. "— it's okay, Sunny. Now pick it up again, and let's start this over."

Everything went smoothly from there. As the final sutures were placed and the last patient was wheeled out of the operating room, all the transplants had gone smoothly beside the little hicup Oliver had, and every patient was stable.

He's honestly surprised he's still alive. If that kidney was ruined, he was sure Bailey would have reached through his skin and pulled his own out for the patient.

"You messed up." Bailey spoke softly, moving towards here Oliver was sitting against the wall, knees to his chest as he worked at riding what had happened from his mind. "But it's okay." She slowly crouched and leaned against the wall beside him, sharing a small look before she looked ahead and continued to talk. "When I was an intern, my resident had me preform a kidney transplant, we'll help with one. I was tasked with suturing everything, and i accident stuck the needle through my glove and into my finger and almost all the wha through. Was so nervous that I just pulled it out and didn't say anything."

Oliver turned his head, eyes widening as he felt a little less embarrassed about what had happened. "Did you not get into trouble?"

"Oh, absolutely." Richard spoke as he neared the two, smiling from ear to ear. "I tore her a new one, where do you think she gets all her speeches from?"

"The patient was okay?" Oliver questioned further, almost asking if his patient was okay.

"He was, and so is yours Oliver." Richard confirmed before he extended his hand and allowed for Oliver to grasp his hand and stand up, alongside Bailey who did too. "Mistakes like this, it builds the best surgeons. Congratulations on your successful surgery, Lee-Sunny."

Oliver thanked him with tearful eyes before he turned and walked away towards the locker room, where he changed his scrubs and dresses in his pyjamas. He knew he would be going straight home, so it worked out more than fine to drive home in them anyways.

"Hey, Oliver." George waved as he stepped towards each other. "There's a movie out, would you maybe wanna go see it?"

Oliver, who didn't have any plans this evening, other than the three day old pizza that was probably so gross in his fridge, nodded his head. "I'd love too."

Both George and Oliver found themselves sitting in the back row of the movie theatre, two large bags of popcorn, and shitty blankets that Oliver had in the back of his car thrown over George's lap and wrapped around Oliver's shoulders,

Oliver didn't say it, but this had helped him end his day on a good note, and he'd forever be thankful for George and what he would do for him.
