You did not completely understand his morals, but Dabi was someone you could connect to. He was hurt, broken by years of abuse and trauma, severe anger issues fuelling a need to be on the top. He was a classic villain, but he was safe. You weren't all sunshine and rainbows either, an underground criminal with a history, but your roots weren't in dangerous crimes and bad ideals, you were more along the lines of making enough to survive. You had met Dabi two years prior to the USJ attack. He saved you from a hero, and since then you have been 'friends' (he didn't like that term). He took care of you defense wise, giving you a place to stay when you needed it, and protected you from people like Toga who would try and take advantage of you. Along the way, you grew closer. Although you weren't involved with Shigaraki's whole plan, Dabi quickly became the only person you could trust. You started staying with him more, disappearing for smaller portions of time. He was like home to you, so you told him that. The guy wasn't too skilled in feelings of any matter, but he knew he offered you protection out of care. He cared for you, and he could recognize that, so that was a start. Dabi knew you weren't in for Shigaraki's plans, so he decided to put you first and separate you from the group.

"Look, what the League is getting into now is dangerous. It's not safe for you to stay here anymore. I got you a place where you'll be safe, just until this is over."

"Dabi, I trust you. I want to stick by your side."

"But, I'm not sure if I can protect you if you get hurt, or your name gets out to the media and those heroes. I don't know what I'd do if you got hurt."
