- hey !

- hey you, smiles Kit. how are you ?

- pretty good, and you ?

- good !

- where are you !? i mean, the wall behind you seems... different.

- yeah, laughs the boy. i'm at my parents' house.

- ooh, little Kit missed his mom.

- shut up, says Kit.

- he needed help to do his homework.

- hey ! shouts the boy.

- shut up, laughs Max, whispering. Sebastian is sleeping.

- what ? he is sleeping on my sofa ?

- it's not your sofa, you only spent one night on it !

- oh, i'll come back, then.

- no, first, you have to invite me, answers Max.

- okay, fine. but you know, i'll never let you come back at nyc, i'll kidnap you.

Max laughs but she sees Kit's face becomes serious and he asks :

- like, would you really like to come to london to see me ? you don't have to...

- yes, obviously ! why are you so skeptical ?

- because... i don't know, i am the one who came to nyc to spend time with you, i am the one who calls every night... i'm scared of, you know, starting really like someone who don't care about me.

- i really like you, Kit, okay ? i mean, you won't have to kidnap me, it's me who won't want to leave.

- Kit ? are you okay baby ?

- hum ? says Kit, looking up from his phone.

he crosses his mom's eyes, really confused.

- you seem strange since this morning. is everything okay ?

- yeah ! yeah, everything okay, don't worry about me.

his mom looks at him, one hand on her hip, dark eyebrows.

- okay, sighs Kit. i met a girl, few months ago. she is the most beautiful girl i've ever seen in my life. she is so funny, so alive, so shiny and, when she smiles, the entire world is shinning, believe me. she likes skating, Harry Styles, to get on my nerves, make fun of me, playin... oh, she has such amazing blond hair, and she calls me Kitty sometimes, just like you, but, that's funny, because i like it. i don't know her friends because, you know, she lives in nyc and... why are you laughing ?

- that's funny, anwers his mom. what's her name ?

- Max. Maxine Davis.

- you really like her, do you ?

- i don't... yes, i like her. a lot. too much. i mean, how could you miss somebody evertime ? oh god, stop laughing !

- and what happen with this girl ? you seemed sad.

- she... i'm so tired of being jealous of everyone. i'm jealous of Will, because he's her bestfriend, i'm jealous of Joe, because they get along very well, i'm jealous of everyone. and, i really think she is in love with Sebastian.

- why do you think that ?

- you don't understand... you didn't see them. they met, what ? one month ago ? they talk everytime by texting, he came in nyc to surprise her and... just the way they look each other make me die.

his mom smiles ans strokes his hair.

- you know, maybe she is in love with him, or with you, or with her neighbour, or with her classmate. you don't have any ideas. you'll learn it later but, you know, people are really gifted to hide their feeling. especially love.

Kit doesn't even answer, thinking. what if she was with another boy in nyc ? he doesn't know her life, her friends. what if everything they shared was... nothing for her ? he finds her so happy when she's with him, but if it was the same with everybody ? he wouldn't support that, he knows it.

- but you know, says his mom before leaving the room, of this Max is the girl you've called last night, she is in love you, believe your old mom. she must be. the way she laughed it's... if she doesn't love you, she is the most talented actress of this world. better than you.

- mom...

definitely my favorite chapter, the last scene makes me smile sooo much
