"yamayama-kun, if you're here to tease me about yesterday, i just want to let you know i am so sorry."

"erena-san."

"i have no idea how i messed up your birthday, yesterday was such a random day too-"

"erena. listen."

the shorter first year promptly stopped her babbling at kageyama's use of her first name. she blushed, bright hues of pink instantly appearing on her cheeks. "y-yeah?"

"it's fine, really," kageyama nodded. "it happens to us all sometimes and you've been busy with school work; it would make sense for you to forget things once in a while."

"i guess," she muttered, clutching the hem of her skirt. a few moments passed in silence as kageyama got his usual milk carton. 

suddenly, she pressed her hands to her head and let out a frustrated scream. "of all the things i forget, i forget that day of your actual birthday! and i prepared such a sentimental gift too!"

"erena-san, it's really alright," he smiled his small smile. "yesterday was a special day too, which is probably why you got if confused. yesterday was the anniversary of the day we met, so your gift was really meaningful."

"oh," she tilted her head. "it was?"

kageyama nodded. "which means i need to get a gift for you. erena-san, i apologize since i'm broke. it seems like a k-kiss will have to suffice."

"h-huh?"

without warning, kageyama leaned forward and planted a gentle kiss on erena's burning cheeks. 

"o-okigottagobacktoclassnowbye!" kageyama said hastily, his cheeks flushed too as he ran off. 

"BYE!" erena accidently screamed before also running off in the opposite direction, tenderly touching the place on her cheeks where his lips had touched. a gentle smile graced her lips.
