chapter twenty seven
The Ravenclaws were walking to the Quidditch pitch. Upon arriving on the Quidditch pitch, they noticed it was already crowded. They still managed to find some good spots for them to see the match.
"Oh, it's gonna start soon."
"Is Jacob a good player?" asked curiously Adena.
"He's very good. Definitely one of the top players of the school. If Potter is the best chaser then Jacob is right behind," said Noah with bright eyes.
"Noah's such a fanboy," muttered quietly Eugenia at her side, and the brunette chuckled.
"Hey! I'm just a supporting friend!" Noah's cheeks turned pink and he frowned at her.
"Oh, they're coming!" exclaimed Millie excitedly.
Adena's eyes turned towards the pitch where the two teams were walking. Her gaze found Regulus, walking behind his housemates, his own eyes roaming the crowd, looking for a certain girl. The brunette made sure to stand to the front, so he would notice her quickly and he did. He gave her a quick smile before returning to his focused self.
The players climbed on their brooms before lifting themselves up in the air. And when the referee blew the whistle, the crowd erupted into loud excited screams. Adena just stayed quiet as she watched Regulus starting to fly gracefully in the air, almost dancing with the wind. She looked at him with admiration just like last time, kind of wishing she could do the same as well. When the young Ravenclaw was lost in her thoughts, one part of the crowd exploded in cheers once again.
"Adena, did you see Jacob score?" said Noah joyfully at her side. She turned to him, seeing him look at the match with stars in his black bright eyes.
"Yeah, I did..." She decided to pay more attention at her housemate since he seemed so good. And she must admit she was impressed. He was chasing after the quaffle with so much speed. She had never seen his face contorted in such seriousness. She could tell he was a good player. And he scored again after she thought that. She clapped cheerfully, actually happy for her team but especially for Jacob. She watched for a while before her gaze returned to the Slytherin male, who was looking for the golden snitch. The way he flew so beautifully with so much speed as well, brought a bigger smile on her face than when Jacob had scored. Both teams scored as often. They were on a tie; ninety to ninety, but Ravenclaw scored again after that. Then it was Slytherin's turn to score as well. Adena thought this could go on for long if the snitch wasn't caught very soon.
It continued for a while, one hundred and thirty to one hundred and fifty for Ravenclaw but suddenly the commentator's amplified voice screamed, "Regulus Black has caught the golden snitch! Slytherin wins with two hundred and eighty points!"
Many groans were heard among the crowd but the Slytherin's roars of victory were much louder. Adena's eyes spotted Regulus flying in the air, the golden snitch in one hand. He slowly got down on the ground, receiving many compliments from his teammates. The brunette didn't waste time and decided to go down the stairs to reach the pitch, ignoring the calls of her confused housemates.
Adena was nearing the pitch, but she stayed outside, waiting for Regulus as the other students went back to the castle, either not bearing the cold anymore or just being hungry. The Slytherin must have seen her leave the bleachers as he got out the changing room pretty fast, and all dressed up in his normal winter clothes. He smiled at her when noticing her.
"So, you actually came."
"Of course, I told you! And I don't regret it, you were very good up there."
The boy's lips turned into a bashful grin as he then said, "But your team lost."
She shrugged a bit. "I don't really care, I told you I wasn't into Quidditch, I'm more worried for Jacob however, he was so confident..."
"He seemed pretty good today, but I'm sure he'll find back his confidence soon enough. He isn't the type to give up easily right?"
Adena nodded but her face turned confused when Regulus frowned at her. "You don't have a scarf to cover your neck?"
"Uh, I forgot it."
"Winsten, you'll end up very sick one day."
"I'm fine! It's not cold anyway-"
"Are you kidding me? It's freezing!" his voice and the look on his face gave Adena more chills than the weather, however.
"I'm fine- what are you doing?" she watched him, her brows furrowed in confusion, as he removed his own silver and green scarf, putting it around the girl's neck, tightening it just enough with a knot. His bare hands were slightly brushing across her jaw as he did.
"Your skin's as cold as ice," he hissed, glaring at her but she diverted her gaze to the floor.
Hearing noises coming from the changing room, Regulus wrapped an arm around her shoulders, bringing her close to him as he turned around to leave.
"Let's go before the others come out."
As they walked, the Slytherin boy muttered quietly, "I won't always be there for you so take care of you."
"I know, but I also knew you were there today, and see, I ended up fine," she said with a small laugh.
"Whatever... Would you like to come to the Slytherin party tonight? Before patrolling of course."
"Oh, can I? They accept people from other houses?"
"They accept anyone whose blood is pure and whose connections are pure as well," muttered Regulus.
"My connections are pure enough for me to be accepted?"
"Uh, yeah, I guess. I mean, hanging out with two half-bloods doesn't make you a blood traitor apparently..." he said hesitantly.
She only hummed. She didn't have to confront Regulus about his views and opinions regarding blood status, but she was glad he remained polite about that since she in fact liked hanging out with two half-bloods.
When they arrived in front of the Hall, he let her go and she smiled at him before reaching the Ravenclaw table.
"You're finally here. We thought you were going to wait for Jacob- you're wearing a Slytherin scarf?" Jade asked suddenly.
"What? Oh that? Hm, yeah," she said, quickly removing it so she could dig into her food, looking as innocent as possible.
"Who gave it to you?"
"Nobody."
"Oh, you found it?"
"Yes, exactly."
"I bet it's Regulus Black's," said Eugenia, smirking a little as Adena's wide eyes turned towards her.
"It's none of your business, just eat and focus on cheering words for Jacob," she hissed as she placed the scarf carefully next to her.
Some minutes later, the Ravenclaw team entered the room, intensifying the gloomy mood at the table. Jacob sat next to Noah who placed a comforting hand on his back, rubbing it a little.
"You were great today! We all watched you! Adena watched you too as well!"
She swallowed her food and replied, "Yes I did watch you, you were going so fast I was actually impressed."
"You were watching when your eyes weren't on a certain Slytherin seeker..." muttered the redhead girl with a teasing tone. But suddenly Jacob banged his fist on the table, surprising the people around.
"All because of that fucking Black!" grunted the blonde male. He was rarely angry, but nobody wished to see that.
Adena frowned at his words but didn't say anything.
"Fuck Black! And fuck all those Slytherin gits! I wanna shove the quaffle up their ars-"
But the rest of the sentence was muffled by Noah's hand, and everyone was glad he did.
They all continued eating quietly after that, and when they finished, they all started leaving just as quietly. Adena had put back Regulus' scarf around her neck, unconsciously nuzzling her face into the soft fabric, sensing how it was warm on her cheeks and that the slight scent escaping from it was comforting.
As they exited the Hall, the brunette heard a voice behind her, "You look good in green."
She turned around as her fellow Ravenclaws left.
"No. Blue is my colour."
"I disagree," answered Regulus with a grin.
"Whatever, I don't care about how I look. Here, thank you," she finished, giving the scarf back to him.
"So, you needed it."
"Uh, well, a little."
And he laughed as he directed himself towards his common room. Adena made her way to the Ravenclaw tower after that.
