chapter sixty three
By the beginning of May, the weather became much softer. Many people, including Candace and her friends had started basking in the sun since the air became hotter as well. Now that the Quidditch season was over, Adena had much more time to spend with Regulus. Both of them found time to complete every essay they had on time. Instead of spending free afternoons in the boy's bedroom, the two teens were now enjoying their time together outside. The nature was so pretty at that time of the year, Adena found it peaceful. They were together under a tree, the perfect place to be under its shadow while the sun managed to shine through the branches. The girl was currently sitting against the trunk while her boyfriend's head was lying on her lap. The two were laughing together while homework was on the side and her hand brushing through his locks.
"Honestly, I feel so sorry for Flint. Like her parents couldn't think of someone better for her."
"Apparently no, they had to choose the most hideous boy of her age."
"For real, Alvin Purvis is the ugliest and the stupidest guy I've ever seen. Poor girl," said the girl laughing again.
"Just like Wilkes and his fiancée. At least it's not sure for Flint, she's lucky."
"Happily, you won't have to end up with the first girl chosen by your parents."
"Yeah actually."
"Wait, so it happened to your parents as well?"
The boy sighed and then said, "My father and my mother are second degrees cousins..."
"Merlin's beard what! But that's horrible!" exclaimed the brunette with shock, before laughing again.
"Something like that must have happened in your family for you to end up with a blood as pure as mine you know..." he muttered, feigning vexation.
She scrunched up her nose in a disgusted manner before her laughter exploded again.
"You must feel lucky to have found me then. You could have ended up with one of your hideous cousins!" she whispered in a teasing manner, referring to his cousin Bellatrix that he mentioned before.
"Most of them are too old and anyway, my cousins aren't all hideous you know! Do you remember Narcissa Black?"
"Not sure..."
"She's older than us but you might have seen her in first year. A Slytherin, tall blonde girl," told her the boy.
She started thinking then replied, "She was in seventh year, right? Well, I remember, why?"
"She's my cousin. And she ain't ugly."
"Makes sense, you have the same name. And I admit it, she's good looking."
"She's actually a Malfoy now. And she's one of the best cousins I have, unlike her sister Bellatrix, who's completely mad as I told you but very devoted to the Dark Lord nonetheless."
"Don't mention her again!" whined the girl before laughing along with her boyfriend. Suddenly he turned his eyes towards a group of people and then whispered, "Your sister and Sirius are looking at us."
Adena looked up from his face to watch them in fact fixing them. She took out a piece of parchment from her bag with a quill where she wrote some words. She enchanted the paper with her wand, making it fly towards the group.
"What did you write?"
"Go study you lazy arses." And the boy snorted.
"As if they didn't have better things to do than spying on us seriously. We have the most annoying siblings."
The girl hummed, watching them read her note with a chuckle but then Regulus spoke up again. "By the way, you were right. I'm really lucky to have found you. My mother is probably looking for a girl to marry at the moment, I really can't wait to tell her to stop because I have you."
She looked at him with a smile. He reached out his hand to delicately brush a light strand of hair that has fallen on her face.
"That's a good thing. I'm happy you don't have to go through that."
"Yeah, I'm happy too. By the end of school my mother will know about you and you'll have to meet her. Okay?"
"Okay, I can do that."
The next weekend, no seventh year was found in the park. No fifth-year was found neither. For the others, just the usual end-of-semester exams that they were used to. Adena wasn't worried at all, nor were her friends so they would rather enjoy a walk under the afternoon sun before dinner.
"Do you smell that?" said suddenly Jacob as they were walking.
"Yeah, you stink," replied Jade.
"You twit! It smells like summer and holidays and pretty sun-kissed girls in dress!"
"Will Jacob finally find himself a girlfriend this year? I take the bets!" said Eugenia.
"Five galleons he won't," rejoined Isaac.
"Yo, buddy, you're supposed to support me!" muttered sadly the blond boy.
"Better than a lie though."
"Y'all mean, only my little Noah, Millie and Adena are nice to me."
"I bet 10 galleons you won't find a girlfriend and that you'll get rejected at least three times," interrupted the brunette.
"Damn why are only Noah and Millie nice to me."
"Because they're nice to everyone," said Isaac.
"One day you'll find yourself someone, don't worry!" exclaimed Millie in her usual optimistic ton.
"Yeah Jacob don't lose hope..." added Noah. Adena couldn't be sure if the shy boy still had a crush on Jacob, but he surely was a supportive friend, even now.
Since she didn't bother with studying, Adena could also take some strolls with her boyfriend since he wouldn't do much neither.
"The summer break is in a month, but we'll make sure to meet, okay?" asked hesitantly the brunette.
"Of course, we already have one meeting planned with my parents."
"My parents will obviously want to meet you too, and maybe your parents also..."
"Really? Who would want to meet my parents..." said the boy thoughtful.
"Hm, apparently they went to school together."
"I didn't know. I'll ask my parents about that."
"I think my father knew better your father. They were both Slytherins, almost the same age."
"He must remember him then."
"Regulus?" she asked suddenly.
"Yeah?" answered the raven-haired male, looking down at her as they walked.
"Can we meet on my birthday as well?"
"Yes, of course, we'll see each other for your birthday."
"Perfect! I wanna spend the whole day with you!" exclaimed the Ravenclaw, feeling already excited about her upcoming birthday.
"But we'll meet each other before, we'll have time to plan the day."
"Hm. It already sounds like the best holidays I'll have in years."
"No more loneliness. No more days only sleeping."
"Yeah I know. Thank you. I really can't wait," she murmured, snuggling close to him.
"Me neither. That'll be a funny summer you'll see, and for once you won't want to go back to school too soon."
"Especially since it's our last year, ugh. We're about to graduate and I feel old."
"You're sixteen..."
"Yeah, but the idea of graduating soon makes me feel old..." muttered the girl sadly.
"But you still look young and fresh. It'll be long before you become old silly..."
When exams started, the whole atmosphere in the castle was tense. Adena wasn't really nervous about her own exams , but she was mostly stressed for Candace taking her N.E.W.Ts. By the end of every test, she would ask her how it went and if she did good. The blonde girl was never really confident and so Adena always tried to reassure her because she knew she had capacities. Maylyn who was much more optimistic about her own exams managed to make her relax.
The end of June and of the school year came quickly after all the sessions of exams were complete. Since she knew she would meet Regulus very often during the holidays, the brunette mostly spent the last days of school with her Ravenclaw friends.
"Guys we have to prepare our meetings for the holidays," said Jade one day at breakfast.
"Who's travelling this year?" asked next Isaac.
"I'm going to France for the last week of July," said Eugenia with excitement.
"Really? That's so cool. Bring back some souvenirs please?" asked Millie with soft eyes to convince the girl.
"Yeah, I'll bring back some stuff, don't worry."
"Okay, so except me and Eugenia, we're good."
"We'll do our school shopping together, right?" said Adena and everyone nodded their heads.
"Let's do this at beginning of August then?" proposed Jacob.
"Okay, we should visit Noah and Adena for their birthdays as well."
"Yeah, that would be so cool!" exclaimed Noah, looking joyful.
"Hm, not for me... I have plans for that day..." murmured the brunette.
"Okay, then the day after."
"No. I'll be sitting the Apparate license exam."
"Okay, we'll see later," laughed Jade.
"Actually, you can pass by any time since I'll be alone, just send a letter before."
"I've never been to your house actually, but you live by the sea, right?" asked Eugenia.
"Not far from the coast yeah, but I've only visited the sea when I was young."
"It'd be fun to go."
Adena hummed, smiling at her. Everyone felt enthusiast, and she was too.
author's note: there's currently a freaking riot in my college right now. no okay i'm maybe overreacting but basically we have some political issues right now and a young politician visited us today and said we should rebel and since we're just a whole bunch of wild students who are used to rebel and demonstrate, about 900 of us agreed and now we can't enter the campus. in the past it lasted for months and i don't know how it'll be now but more cancelled classes means more time for writing haha
