chapter sixty one

It was a calm morning in the Potions classroom by the end of March, until Slughorn suddenly interrupted Adena and Regulus' studious work.

"Miss Winsten, Mister Black! I'm planning a party very soon, something a little fancier than usual, to celebrate Slytherin's future victory of the Quidditch cup. I have a good feeling this year... Oh and I invited important guests, if you know what I mean my boy," said Slughorn joyfully, while giving a wink to the teenager.

"What does he mean?" asked the girl as she watched their teacher inviting other students.

"Some famous Quidditch players he wants me to meet..." sighed the boy as he started mixing the potion.

"He really wants you to get into Quidditch."

"Yeah, but I can't tell him I don't want to become a professional player, he'll be disappointing."

"Well, I guess it's better that way then... Do you think I can bring Jacob along since he wants to be professional?"

"Sure, at least they would've come for a good reason."

The last Quidditch match of the season was supposed to happen mid-April and would confront Gryffindor against Slytherin, the ultimate rivals. The Slytherin team has been training non-stop while their housemates started dueling more frequently in the hallways with the Gryffindors, resulting in nothing more serious than students having blue hair or abnormally large teeth.

The sun was back during April. It was shy but still present. Adena was taking a stroll in the park with Candace, something she had not done in a while. The wind was still wincing, but it felt good to have some fresh air.

"I suppose you didn't start studying yet."

"Exactly. You know me, I'm so lazy," laughed the blonde girl.

"You'll pass anyway... you're like Jacob, you can pass without much studying. That jerk passed with six O.W.Ls and even got an Outsanding in Care for Magical Creatures. That wasn't even surprising for us, but McGonagall was surprised to see him in class this year."

Candace laughed before saying, "But he still wants to be a professional Quidditch player, right? Then it doesn't really matter if he doesn't get good marks."

"Yeah right... By the way, have you thought of your project?"

"Yeah, a little..." she muttered with a sigh.

"What? What's the problem?"

"McGonagall told me I should get at least five Outstanding or Exceeds Expectations. And Transfiguration and Potions aren't my top subjects you see..."

"Oh... wait, what would you like to do?"

"Hm, Healer."

"Really? I'd like to do that too!" exclaimed the young Ravenclaw with enthusiasm.

"Seriously? Wow I thought I'd like better something Astronomy-related," exclaimed next Candace, her eyes wide in surprise.

"Well, Healer is my second option. But I still have time to think."

"Hm."

"If you work hard, I'm sure you'll get good grades. You can ask Lily for Potions and maybe Briella for Transfiguration. She's good right?"

"Yeah, but I can also ask one of the boys..." laughed the girl.

"Well, I guess so... they're that good?"

"Oh yes, James, Peter and Sirius have a certain talent for Transfiguration."

"Then ask them!"

"Yeah, I'll ask them, thanks sis."

Soon enough, it was the day of the last Quidditch match. Adena had never seen the school as excited. Everyone was singing chants for the team they were supporting, and as always, the Slytherins alone were as loud as the rest of the houses. The girl wasn't too fan of this noisy atmosphere, but at least the competition energy around the Great Hall at breakfast was entertaining. The girl spotted her boyfriend by the exit door, he was waiting for her, and upon noticing, she quickly finished her tea, before running to him.

"Oh, I should have given you my Slytherin scarf instead of wearing your Ravenclaw one," he said, disappointed, as they walked out the room. Once far enough he planted a sweet kiss on her lips that made her smile widely. He then took her hand and started walking again.

"I'm not supporting your team. Neither I am supporting Gryffindor. I stay neutral with these colors."

"So, you mean you don't care if I win or lose," he scoffed as he said that.

"No, well, I'd like you to win. I'll show support only to you."

"That's unfair for the others."

"I don't care, only you can make a difference."

"That's true... So, you think like Slughorn that we'll win today?"

"Yes, totally. I know Gryffindor's a good team, but they don't have you. You're a better seeker."

"Well, maybe..." he couldn't admit that these compliments as a seeker made him a little shy coming from Adena. The girl had learned a lot about Quidditch, and he could only feel happy about her judgment.

"Do you want a good luck kiss or you're fine?" asked the girl as they arrived at the pitch.

"Oh no, I do need it. And a big one so I'll be confident for the whole match."

"Okay, I'll try my best..." And he stopped as she said that, turning around to face her. Regulus regarded her with so much intensity in his grey eyes that she couldn't help but smile. The brunette took a hold of his face gently between her palms before bringing it down until their lips met. She started kissing him softly, lovingly, and he responded in the same way. It didn't take long for his arms to snake around her waist, just so he could enjoy the few seconds of proximity. They kissed for a while; it was soft and passionate, and Regulus didn't want to let go. But Adena detached herself when she heard some noises coming from behind them, signaling the students were starting to gather.

"You should go..." the girl whispered looking into his eyes. "I'll watch you. I know you can win."

He nodded, pecking her lips one last time before saying, "Thank you."

She smiled at him before letting him go to the changing room.

Adena met with her fellow Ravenclaws and her sister. Some of her Gryffindor friends were there as well. She couldn't dare looking at either Lily or Sirius, so she stayed by Maylyn, Briella, and Remus' side.

"You were encouraging your boy?" asked Briella smirking.

"Hm, yeah."

"I'll take that as a betrayal, Miss."

"Stop that Briella, you know Adena doesn't even like Quidditch," said Maylyn laughing.

"I'm sorry Adena, but I'd love to see your boyfriend lose today," said Jacob from behind.

"Don't be too disappointed if he wins then," she said with a smug look.

"Tch, as if, I trust my Gryffindor friends," exclaimed the blond boy encouragingly.

"I like this one, Adena be more like him," said Briella and Adena rolled her eyes. She looked down to focus on the players that were coming on the pitch. Her stare found Regulus and his found her. Just knowing she was there for him boosted him and made him want to do his best.

As they started flying in the air, the crowd went wild. The whistle blew and Adena felt like she had become deaf. Everyone was screaming but the energy was so entertaining. Even if she stayed quiet, she loved this atmosphere.

Gryffindor had just scored another point. The Slytherin keeper was good, no doubt, but the Gryffindor chasers, especially James Potter, were very good too. At least the Slytherin chasers weren't bad. Adena watched as Austin Wilkes scored another point, making them equal to Gryffindor. The Slytherin beaters, Weston Burke and Harold Nott, were sending bludgers left and right, making the crowd growl in irritation but that didn't stop the Gryffindors from scoring again. The seekers were nowhere to be seen, most likely up in the clouds. Both scores kept going up, the two teams were unstoppable. The brunette watched in awe as the players flew at fast speed and scored perfectly. Both teams were great for sure, she couldn't determine which one was the best.

Suddenly, a little golden ball came flying in front of them. The Golden Snitch was right here but none of the seekers was there.

"What the hell are they doing," said Jacob confused. But just he finished his sentence, a broomstick flew down from the clouds towards the little ball. Regulus, closely followed by the Gryffindor seeker was flying down their way, but before he could come too close, the snitch flew to the side, making him turned smoothly but still at a fast speed towards it. The Gryffindor had a hard time following the movement which slowed him down a little.

"Damn, Black's good," grunted the blond boy. And Adena felt proud. She watched him with shinning eyes as he chased the snitch at full speed.

Just as she did, the commentator yelled, "And Gryffindor scores again! One hundred and seventy to one hundred and eighty for Gryffindor!"

The crowd erupted in cheers but Adena focused on Regulus flying gracefully in the air, he was so close. The Gryffindors could score as much as they wanted, Regulus would make his team win before they could take too much advance.

The Gryffindor seeker was now at Regulus' side, both were focused on the snitch, their arms out to reach it more easily. It flew up. The raven-haired male managed to make his broom changed of direction so it could follow it. The Gryffindor difficultly joined him after a while, but it was too late. Just as he reached Regulus' side again, the Slytherin took more speed until his hand could grab the golden ball.

The crowd became quiet for a moment, not sure of what was happening until the commentator screamed: "Regulus Black caught the golden snitch! Slytherin wins the match and the Quidditch cup with three hundred and thirty points to one hundred and eighty!"

The crowd of Slytherins erupted in cheers upon hearing that. Regulus got down on the ground and was welcomed by cheers and embraces from his team. Adena didn't even look at her friends or her Gryffindor companions and just climbed down the stairs. She could now hear yells of disappointment coming from the other houses. As she arrived on the ground, she made her way to the pitch entrance, and watched the Slytherins arrived back, Austin Wilkes holding the cup proudly under the loud cheers of their housemates. By the time they arrived, Slughorn was already there, coming their way, exclaiming with excitation how proud he was.

"Please my boys calmed down a little, the photographer is coming for a picture," exclaimed joyfully the teacher, really delighted to see his students so happy.  The photographer came to them when they seemed ready, and he took some photos. Slughorn had never looked so proud, thought the girl. Once he was done, Regulus walked up to Adena, not caring about the team still cheering.

The brunette embraced her boyfriend in her arms, holding tightly onto him as she said with excitement, "I knew you'd win! You're amazing!" Her eyes were shining as she said that, and Regulus was really touched by her words.

"Thank you for supporting me," he whispered before quickly kissing her.

They let go of each other but not completely, they still had one arm around each other. As they turned around, they were surprised by the flash of the photographer.

"I couldn't help, you two looked very adorable," said the old man with a chuckle, his wrinkled eyes smiling too. Adena blushed at his words but was still smiling, nonetheless.

"Don't be embarrassed," whispered the boy by her side as he poked her cheek.
