chapter sixty five
Adena exited Regulus' house to go back home for a while, just to take a fancy dress and leave a note to her parents. In the meantime, the young boy decided to have a conversation with his mother.
"Mother, what do you think of Adena?"
"She's a pure-blood. She's smart and rather pretty as well. And she seems ready to carry out our name. I approve of her. However, I'll appreciate her more once she stops having connections with Mudbloods. Just make sure she gets rid of those and then we'll talk seriously about your future," had said his mother with seriousness, her stare piercing through his, but he didn't flinch, having been used to it over the years.
"Thank you, Mother." And she left the room while Regulus waited for Adena.
The young girl arrived a few minutes later, a dress in her arms.
"I'll bring this to my room, and then would you like to visit the house?"
"Yes, I'd like that." She smiled at him and he grabbed her hand, Apparating in his room in a second.
"Wow, that's... very green," said the girl upon discovering the bedroom.
"Slytherin pride is common in my family."
She walked around the room, looking at every detail, like the perfectly cleaned desk or the green walls reflecting the Slytherin pride, and she could see the crest of the Black family, and their motto 'Toujours pur' on the opposite wall.
"You can leave the dress on the bed."
Adena walked to the bed, putting her dress carefully on the perfectly made bed, and her eyes caught something on the wall. The photo of the couple taken after the victory of Slytherin was there, next to the photo of his team; it made her smile. However, her smile quickly faded away. On top of that were stuck some press articles, all related to the Dark Lord.
"When were you planning to tell me about becoming a Death Eater in some days," spoke the girl sternly, still looking at the articles.
"Hm... about that, I'm sorry you got to know about it from my mother. To be honest I didn't really want to tell you because I know that it worries you and you think it's dangerous..."
His voice sounded uncertain which made Adena looked up at him.
"Do you really want to become one of them? Are you ready for that? You're so young." She didn't try to hide her concern as she spoke to him.
"I want to make my parents proud," he answered with seriousness and determination.
"This doesn't answer my question."
However, the boy didn't say anything more and just avoided her cold and concerned stare. He didn't want to speak his thoughts out loud and only hoped she would understand by herself. At least, the brunette calmed down a little, then sighed before approaching him.
"Can I still visit your house?" she asked more softly.
"Hm, yeah." He took a hold of her hand, leading her outside. When she closed the door, she noticed a sign on the door that said: 'Do Not Enter Without the Express Permission of Regulus Arcturus Black'. It made the brunette smile.
"Do you want to visit Sirius' room too?"
"Sure, why not."
They entered the room and Adena widened her eyes in surprise.
"I guess the decoration of my room was also born after that..." said Regulus referring to the Gryffindor-related stuff everywhere in the room.
It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. When she got closer, she noticed some Muggle posters of motorcycles and young women and swimsuits which made her frown.
"Sirius has some strange taste in terms of decoration..."
"I know," sighed the boy behind her.
"I prefer much more the photo of us," said smiling the girl as she turned to him and he smiled back, liking that it made her happy.
They left the room, Regulus closing the door behind.
"About the conversation with my mother, I hope she didn't make you uncomfortable," said the raven-haired male as they climbed down the stairs to the second floor.
"That was unexpected I must say."
"I tried to dissuade her from doing so, but as you may have guessed already, it's not easy to make her change her mind."
"Yeah I could have guessed."
"But at least she got pleased by your answers. You seemed a little tense, but you managed to show confidence and seriousness when you talked. She liked these qualities."
"Really? I just tried my best, imagining what she'd like to hear," replied the brunette, a little surprised.
"That was great don't worry."
"But she knows I have half-blood friends though, and about my aunt too," muttered Adena as she furrowed her brows.
"Well, yeah."
"Did she mention it to you..."
"Yes, but it doesn't matter. Don't feel pressured about that." He regarded her kindly while saying this, hoping to cease her doubts.
"Okay, thanks."
They left the room of the second floor, now going down to the first floor since Regulus didn't want to bother his father in his study.
"You didn't tell me about your aunt," said suddenly Regulus.
"Oh, yes... I thought you'd preferred not hear about her since she's a blood traitor for you and your family."
"Well right. But you're not in contact with her apparently."
"No, she left for France after marrying that guy. I wonder how your mother heard about that though..."
"Pureblood families can't hardly hide their secrets. And my cousin Bellatrix went to school with her so she must have talked about it to my mother."
"I see, as long as it doesn't bother you..."
"No, it's fine. You don't see her anymore, it's all that matters." As he said that, Adena didn't feel any disdain in his voice and she was glad. The girl could say anything, she still had good memories of her aunt.
When they got down to the ground floor, Adena didn't dare walk on the first step of the stairs, her shocked eyes looking at the opposite wall.
"It's a family tradition. You'll get used," said nonchalantly the boy as he walked down the stairs. However, she didn't think she could ever get used to that, these house-elves' heads. They walked to the dinner room where Kreacher was cleaning.
"You can take a break Kreacher."
The elf nodded before bowing his head in front of his master.
"The cake served earlier was very good. It's my favorite," told him Adena.
"Kreacher is happy Miss Adena liked it," answered the elf, again bowing his head until his nose almost brushed the floor.
"How do you like Adena?" asked Regulus to the house-elf.
"Miss Adena is very kind to Kreacher," he answered.
"Thank you Kreacher." The girl knew Regulus really liked his house-elf, so she was pleased by his words.
After visiting the whole house, which Adena wasn't sure she liked considering it was very dark and gloomy even though it was very sophisticated, they got back to Regulus' bedroom.
"I'll tell my mother we're ready just take your time to put on that dress," was all he said before leaving. She couldn't help but look around some more. She also took time to look at the streets outside. The neighborhood seemed located outside the center of London, which was less busy but on this sunny evening, many people were out.
After finishing, the girl got out and walked down the stairs, not really knowing where her boyfriend was. She was surprised when she got face to face with Orion Black who was just getting out of his study. He stared at her then got down. He seemed like a secretive man; she hadn't heard him talk once since she got here.
She followed after him, thinking he knew where to go. And she was right since the rest of the family was waiting in the living-room.
"You're lucky we always leave early," said Walburga, not hiding her irritation. Adena just quickly walked up to Regulus, not daring to meet her cold stare. The next thing she knew, she was Apparating by the side of her boyfriend.
