chapter six
Adena was feeling quite excited regarding Candace's birthday. She couldn't wait to see the happiness glimmering in her green eyes as she enjoyed herself with her friends. She had just come out of the shower and was now putting on her classical black pants and her white blouse, just a casual outfit for the day, even though she knew she would have to put back on her uniform to execute prefect's duties that night, which was already annoying her. Her roommates were waiting for her outside the bathroom, all of them attending the Quidditch match as well. As she finished putting on her sweater and brushing her brown locks all tangled from sleeping, the girls were debating over the results of the match. They were obviously going to support Gryffindor like most people, as they couldn't stand any Slytherin. When asked about it, Adena just said nonchalantly that she didn't care, which wasn't much of a surprise for the three girls.
The girls met up with Candace and her Gryffindor friends in the courtyard. Lily, Briella, Rosie were there and this time Maylyn too. The boys were apparently already in the bleachers. Adena immediately caught up with her sister upon arriving, wishing her a happy birthday with a quick hug as the young girl wasn't used to that much physical affection. The Ravenclaws wished her a happy birthday as well and after that they all started walking to the pitch.
Adena stayed close to her sister as she gave her the small present she had bought.
"Aww thank you sis, you're the best."
Her eyes were shinning with excitement like a child when she opened the little bag to discover the pendant. Her smile was so wide as she spoke again, "Merlin's beard! I really love it, it's so cute! I can't wait to show off!"
She knew her little sister wasn't the type of person to express her feelings so openly, she always acted so detached but that present was just a sign meaning she actually cared.
After some minutes of walking they arrived at the pitch. They climbed up the stairs until reaching the Gryffindor boys at the entrance waiting for their housemates.
"I wonder where the boys are," suddenly mumbled Jade, referencing to their Ravenclaw fellows. Just as they arrived up the bleachers, the four of them spotted three guys sporting the Gryffindor colors and waving flags excitedly.
"Aren't they your friends?" exclaimed Sirius with a laugh.
Jacob, Isaac, and Noah were there, screaming like crazy the victory of Gryffindor even though barely anyone was seated yet. These guys were more excited than the Gryffindors themselves present there, they even regarded them with judgmental glances. Jade had to come up to them, telling them to calm down, more like yelling at them so they would understand. They ended up all seating themselves around the Ravenclaws boys, which was a great spot to watch the match. Very quickly a mass of people started joining them, making everything noisier. Adena already regretted accepting her sister's proposition to come as she could just be lazing around in her room instead.
The players soon started arriving, making the crowds erupt in energetic shouts from both sides. Adena could admit that she was actually in awe as she watched the players from both teams flying in the air. Flying on brooms had never been her favorite activity but seeing those people do it made her think that it must be a great feeling.
She was probably the calmest watcher as she was still sitting. She didn't need to stand as from their high spot they could clearly see the match. But something suddenly made the brunette jump up from her seat as she scanned the players. The Slytherin seeker was actually Regulus Black. As she wasn't much involved in Quidditch nor in Hogwarts' life, that was a surprising discovery. She would have never thought he would be into that kind of things. But she remembered now he looked rather thin but well-built.
And as the young girl's eyes were fixed upon the raven-haired male, lost in her thoughts, the whistle suddenly blew, making the match officially start. Unconscious of her own actions, her admirative gaze followed Regulus through the air, observing as he flew so freely. She wasn't bothering to look at the other seeker or any other players as she was fascinated enough by the young Slytherin. She was sure, nobody could fly as elegantly as him, just like nobody could walk as elegantly as him. What an odd but fascinating boy, she thought.
She eventually started paying more attention to the match even though her stare would randomly find Regulus among the other players, as if attracted by him.
Both teams were doing well she noticed. One scoring after the other but Adena didn't bother cheering as she had said before, she didn't care at all. Quidditch was pretty boring she thought, she just wished she could be under the warmth of her blankets since the wind was so chilly once again.
After a while the match finally ended with Gryffindor's victory. Seventy to one hundred and eighty. The Slytherins had scored more and there was a tight at the end, but Gryffindor ended up winning. As she watched the frustrated Slytherin players coming down on the pitch, she thought it was somehow sad, but it was just a game anyway. The supporters' constant screaming had been tiring and she was happy to go back to the school.
Candace was walking back with her and talking as always. She then said, "Would you like to eat with me for lunch, please say yes and I'll stop being annoying."
She had her puppy eyes and was pouting, obviously trying to persuade the young girl by her cute looks. Sometimes Adena just wondered if she was really the youngest of both.
"Okay, if you really want to, but don't be annoying," had she said with a stern voice.
With that they both made their way to the Great Hall, being closely followed by Candace's group of friends.
Adena, Candace as well as her friends were sitting together at the Gryffindor table. The young Ravenclaw kind of felt uneasy at this table, but Candace's friends were all being cheerful in order to make her feel more comfortable. As the brunette was being scolded by her sister for not finishing her meal, the Gryffindor boys started approaching them with excitement. The whole team, along with Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, started sitting with the girls, talking right away about the match. Sirius had seated himself at Adena's left but she didn't mind that much. However, she felt like someone was staring at her. She only had to lift her head up from the plate for her surprised gaze to meet Regulus Black's cold glare who was seating right in front of her at the Slytherin table. He focused again on his plate as she did the same, feeling rather confused by his strange behavior.
After finishing lunch, Adena went back to the Ravenclaw tower to start her homework as she would be busy this evening. She thought about Regulus again and why he was acting so weird. Did he hate her, now. Whatever, she told herself, she had to go back to her Arithmancy essay.
As the conscientious and studious person she was, the young Ravenclaw had completed most of her homework by the time dinner was ready. It was in that kind of moment she realized that fifth year was somehow difficult. She had to be more hard-working. That was why her lazy sister got her O.W.L.s with mostly Acceptable. She had to go back to her room to put back her stuff and leave her glasses on her bedside table as well as dress up in her uniform to complete her prefect duties later on. When she entered the room, she noticed her three roommates chatting excitedly.
"Are you going to dinner, Adena?" asked her redhead comrade.
"Yeah, it's time."
"Let's go then girls, I bet the hall will be super loud," said Millie.
The brunette nodded and went to the bathroom to quickly change herself into her uniform before placing back her casual clothes perfectly folded in her closet. With that she was ready to leave with the girls.
Upon arriving, the four girls noticed their three comrades at the Ravenclaw table, talking rather loudly since the hall was indeed full of noises. Jacob waved enthusiastically, letting them know they had kept them seats. And so Adena sat next to Isaac, and her eyes travelled around the room, noticing everyone was into excited chatters, either happy for Gryffindor's victory or for their party coming up, or could be both. She turned around and noticed her sister being just as energetic which made her chuckle lightly before digging into her meal, some lamb chops which happened to be her sister's favorite meal. She could easily guess Candace had recently visited the kitchens.
Adena lightly chatted with her comrades during the meal but mostly stayed quiet, focusing on her food. Her eyes were searching around the table, looking for a certain male. After spotting Dale Penley, her fellow prefect, stuffing his mouth with pie, she got up and went to him.
"Hi guys, sorry for interrupting. "
All boys eating with Dale looked up at her, wondering why she was there.
"Penley, I guess you're going to the party after dinner, so is that okay if we meet outside the Gryffindor common room at curfew?" asked plainly the young girl, not bothering to show any interest as she didn't really affectionate him.
"It's okay for me," said the boy after swallowing his food.
She nodded curtly and quickly went back to her place not wishing to spend any more time with Dale and his friends that she considered rather stupid. She wondered many times how such idiots could be in Ravenclaw. The Sorting Hat can do mistakes like anyone after all.
author's note: i hate dale penley 😀 (this might be a spoil oops)
