chapter seventy one
When dinner ended, Adena made sure to thank Kreacher for the meal who was cleaning the table, before joining Regulus who was climbing up the stairs.
"I'll show you the library and the book I want to give you," he told her.
They arrived in the library situated on the third floor. The place wasn't too big, but it was full of all type of books, probably including some about Dark Magic, thought the girl. As Regulus was looking for the book in particular, Adena was looking through random books. She opened one that was indeed about Dark Magic, quickly reading what it was about, and frowning a little when discovering its content.
"What did you find- oh you shouldn't read that," chuckled the boy.
She gave him the book with a laugh, and he gave her the one he was holding.
"It's old and dusty," she stated, wiping off the dust on the cover.
Adena read the title, Discovering the stars and planets of our Galaxy, before opening the book. The first pages represented the system solar, with each of its planet tracing their trajectory around the sun magically. She was really fascinated as she looked at it.
"Do you like it? There's more." As he said that, the raven-haired male turned a few pages where they discovered a constellation and every star surrounding it. The best thing was that they were actually shining as if she was observing the sky.
"Wow, that's so beautiful. I've never read a book like that, I really like it," murmured the girl, amazed.
"I'm happy if you like it," murmured back the boy.
"Thanks." And she placed a kiss on his cheek.
"Can you go up to my room to take my broomstick while I'll go tell my mother we're leaving?"
"Okay." She left the room with the book in her hands and climbed up the stairs until reaching the room. Re-reading the sign on the door made her chuckle and she thought she had the permission to enter and did so. Adena found the broomstick beside the closet, in one corner of the room. She left after that, climbing down the stairs quickly, and finding Regulus and his mother in the living-room. He noticed her and said goodbye to his mother before joining the girl.
"We can go?"
"Yeah!" said the girl with a happy smile on her lips.
They went down and left by the front door, which Adena had never took. She discovered the outside of the house, which looked rather miserable in comparison to the sophisticated rooms she saw inside. She quickly followed Regulus who was walking down the street.
"It's a shabby neighborhood," stated the girl.
"I know but my mother likes this house since it's been owned by our family for decades."
They walked for a while, Regulus having his broomstick in one hand, receiving weird stares from the rare Muggles passing by but he didn't seem to care. This place of London seemed calmer than the other neighborhoods at least.
"The sun's still up so I guess some people might be out, so we'll have to fly high."
"We'll have a better view." And she smiled amusedly.
They walked until finding somewhere deserted and hidden enough. He climbed on the broom, Adena coming behind him and holding tightly onto him. She couldn't help remembering the first time they did that, and it seemed like Regulus did too.
"You know how to hold me tight now," chuckled the boy.
"I was shy before," muttered the girl, and Regulus chuckled some more, before flying into the air, surprising the girl who let out a frightened squeak.
"I should have told you, oops." And he laughed as he continued his way up, until they were flying through the clouds.
"That's really high..." uttered Adena with shock.
"Yeah, let's fly here until the sun sets."
The weather was hot since they were close to the setting sun, but it was so pretty. They were flying above London, and it was such an impressive sight to witness.
"When we finish Hogwarts, will we fly together again?"
"Of course, we'll fly again."
Adena felt lucky to experience that. It was such a pleasing moment, where she discovered many things again. From that high, everything was so different. The feeling of freedom was back into her, it was such a wonderful moment.
"Can I fly too after?"
"Yes, we'll just have to go back down or at least on the roof of a building."
"Okay. But you can continue for a while, I'm fine like that," she said, smiling against his back.
They had left the city of London and were now flying above nature. They didn't have to fly as high and could now admire the countryside's landscape. The sun was really setting now since they had been flying for a while, but it still felt so good. The orangish sky was so beautiful to watch. They were flying slowly, being able to watch the sun set as slowly in the horizon, replacing the warm colors of the sky by darker shades.
"During holidays, do you go out to fly?" asked the girl.
"Sometimes I do. It helps me clear my mind and I can enjoy the fresh air."
"You go out like that and you've never come pick me up?" exclaimed Adena, offended.
"I don't even know where you live exactly, and I think it'd be too far."
"I live by the coast. West side of London."
"Okay, flying to the west but I think that'd be a little far still. Like hours."
"Too bad, I thought you'd be saving me from a depressing summer next year too and we would run away on your broomstick," said Adena in whining voice.
"I'll try my best," laughed Regulus.
"You're the best boyfriend," said smugly the brunette as she squeezed his waist affectionately.
They eventually made their way back to London when the sun was completely set, and the stars had taken their place in the sky. As Adena was focused on the bright sky view, Regulus suddenly picked up his pace. The girl let out a small scream of shock and one of her hand detached itself from the hold it had on Regulus so it could keep her dress down.
"What are you doing numpty? Hold me with both hands!" exclaimed the boy.
"But you made my dress fly up with the speed you twit!" screamed back Adena.
He had slowed down so the wind would stop making her dress fly up and so she could hold onto him more securely once again. Regulus eventually stopped on the roof of a high building of London. He got down, and Adena did the same suddenly she looked up to meet Regulus' angry glare. He had his arms crossed on his chest, and had a scolding look on his face. Adena had the same expression as him.
"Your safety, Adena."
"But my dress flew up- "
"We were higher than the buildings, do you really think anything could have been seen? We couldn't even be seen."
"Right but I have manners and that was a reflex," spoke the girl, glaring at him.
"Tch, idiot."
"You could have told me you were about to do that, silly," sighed Adena with an exasperated look on her face.
"I thought it wouldn't have surprised you," said the raven-haired boy with a chuckle.
"Well it did." And she sighed again in an exasperate manner. She was climbing back on the broom as she said that. Regulus rolled his eyes and climbed behind her. His hands circled her waist, and he placed his chin on her shoulder.
"You better not distract me. I haven't done this since last time."
"I'd rather avoid creating an accident," uttered the boy.
Adena started flying after that. It was late now, they had been out for hours, yet she didn't take the direction of Grimmauld Place. She flew around London, as easily as last time, at mid-pace so she could feel the wind in her hair. She felt so free. And she was happy to share this moment of pure joy and freedom with Regulus. She always had her best moments in his company. He was the one making her discover and feel all of that after all. She only realized at that moment she wasn't thanking him enough for everything he had consciously or unconsciously done for her these past months.
They flew for a while, and Adena didn't want to go down, she just circled the city, always admiring the bright lights and the beautiful sky with as much awe in her hazel eyes. And suddenly they passed by the Big Ben. Regulus was the first to notice.
"Happy birthday, Adena," he murmured in her ear.
She was surprised and just looked at the clock. It was in fact past midnight.
"Thank you, Regulus. And I mean for that wonderful moment we just had too," she whispered back.
"Why are you thanking me now? Isn't the present you really want, coming later?" he whispered again, softness dripping down his voice which made chills run down her spin. She had mentioned her wish hours earlier, and he hadn't forgotten, he had understood her, and was even reminding her.
"You're right..." she said, suddenly a little flustered.
"Do you want to comeback then?"
"Hmm, yes, let's go."
