chapter forty six
The two teenagers were still busy reading books when someone appeared in front of them, where they were hiding in an aisle of the library. Regulus and Adena both lifted up their gazes to see who had interrupted their calm moment.
" 'Dena, here you are, I've been looking for you- What are you doing here? And what are you two doing together?" spat Sirius as he looked at the surprised faces of both teenagers.
His eyes glanced at them, falling on every detail that could give away anything as they wouldn't talk. Of course, she was holding a book, but his eyes found the strange things first. There was barely any distance between them, and Regulus' hand was still tangled in Adena's curls.
The two were avoiding his piercing stare until he suddenly said, "Reg." For the first time in so long, Sirius was calling him again. "You love her, right?" He continued looking deep into his grey eyes.
And Regulus didn't say anything, just returning the cold stare. "Damn you do love her. Among all the girls it had to be Adena." And he laughed sourly before leaving. He didn't want to make a fuss in the library, he had to calm down.
There was silence between them, neither daring to speak after what had just happened, until Regulus did.
"What are your feelings for me?" suddenly asked the boy.
For a moment she didn't say anything, wondering what she should say before murmuring, "I really like you."
He nodded, his emotionless expression not giving out any of his feelings regarding this confession.
"I fell in love with you, Adena."
Adena couldn't hide her reaction as her eyes went wide. She almost wasn't sure if she heard right even though Regulus was so close to her. As if hearing her thoughts, the boy spoke again in seriousness.
"I'm in love with you."
She felt at loss for words. She couldn't calm down her heart that had gone wild. Without realizing it, she had lifted her hand up to place it where her heart was, feeling it thump strongly. Regulus removed her hand so he could place his own there instead. She didn't mind the sudden contact, nor did she mind showing him her true feelings.
"Thank you for liking me." And he placed a kiss on top of her head. His hand gliding down to play with her strands of hair again.
Adena felt relieved. Even if it didn't last long, Adena and Regulus spoke out about their feelings. Was it that obvious to the point that even Sirius had noticed? She wished he hadn't, she wished he hadn't come there. It was frightening her a little, since he could talk about this to her sister. She felt nervous about facing her.
That night, the Ravenclaws organized an unplanned party. As per usual most fifth-years and above from all houses would come. The brunette had asked Regulus if he wanted to come and happily, he said he would after his patrolling shift.
And now, Adena was in her common room, discussing with the others, the party slowly starting. She had a cup of Firewhisky in her hand, but she was only taking sips from time to time.
"It's rare we organize parties, I'm actually super excited," said Eugenia who had drowned her first cup already.
"Yeah, it feels weird, we haven't done it in so long."
"Is there any reason?"
"I'm not sure. It's just some seventh-years who said it to basically the whole school yesterday."
"Oh look! I'm surprised Jacob doesn't seem too hammered yet!" laughed the redhead girl.
The brunette spun around to see Jacob just dancing with some Hufflepuff girls and yes, he still looked in control of himself.
"Hello girls! Make some space!" exclaimed Candace who had just arrived. She was accompanied by her Gryffindor girl mates. Except for Lily who was patrolling that night. They sat on the floor and the sofas.
"Our common room is much more comfortable," murmured Mary Macdonald but she was still perfectly heard over the music.
"But it's not as pretty!" replied Eugenia.
"I agree," rejoined Adena sipping on her Firewisky.
"Don't tell me you've been sipping the same Firewisky for an hour," sneered her sister, laughing.
The Ravenclaw shrugged, saying, "Maybe. I don't drink as much as you, you know."
"But you're being too soft. Live your youth." And she accioed a bottle towards them so she could put some more into her cup, which made the youngest sigh.
"Okay but I'm not getting drunk tonight..."
"Try your best," laughed the girl.
However, some hours later, Adena found herself dancing with her Ravenclaw friends. She couldn't remember how much she drank, but apparently just enough to accept Candace's proposition to dance. She was feeling bubbly. It was like she didn't have any control of her actions, and she could do anything she wanted. Not that she would do it of course. But joining her sister to dance was one of the things she could do. She was laughing as Jacob held her hands with excitement. He loved having drinking companions. The blond boy had said Noah and Isaac didn't like dancing and he was sad. The young girl had grabbed Noah's hand to drag him to where people were dancing, not caring if he wanted to or not.
"Dance with your boy," had she murmured before laughing and his face went red. The girl then directed herself to the table where he used to be, taking her cup there.
"Damn Adena, you're really drunk tonight!" said Isaac with a laugh.
She widened her eyes before replying, "Really? I'm just having fun!"
"Look who's there!" pointed the boy behind her and she instantly turned around, noticing Regulus was walking towards them. Adena quickly closed the distance between them before throwing her arms around his frame, her face nuzzled in his chest. His grey eyes went wide with surprise and met Isaac's brown shocked orbs who was sitting there, watching the two.
Regulus' hand patted the top of her head as she exclaimed, "I'm happy to see you! Come drink with me and Isaac!"
"How much did you drink?" murmured the boy.
"Not that much..." she answered, and he sighed, dragging her to the table for her to take a seat, him sitting by her side.
"Hey Black."
"Hey Greenwood. How much did she drink?"
"I told you not that much..." pouted the girl and unconsciously his hand went to caress her soft brown hair not caring if Isaac was there. It was obvious by now he cared a lot about her.
"I'm not sure. At least one cup, probably two or three since she can't handle alcohol very well. But I'd say two half cups is enough to get her in this state."
"Candace told me to live my youth so I'm having fun."
"You can have fun but at least not drink more," he said softly as he looked at her. "I even saw you dancing. That really doesn't resemble you," he concluded smiling as her face took some colors.
"I'm not like myself these days anyway..."
"What's going on between you two?" asked suspiciously Isaac who was witnessing the exchange. Sure they had been close for a while but not that close.
Regulus turned his grey irises towards him, wondering what to reply. "Nothing important."
"It seems like the opposite to me. Adena has changed. Even if she tries to hide it, we aren't blind," he said looking at the girl's face that she had placed on the Slytherin's shoulder. He wasn't sure if she was listening as she was quietly looking at him.
Regulus sighed but before he could say anything, Isaac interrupted him, "Look, I don't know what's going between you two, but something's there. She may not realize it, but I do care about her, like the others, so as long as you're not a jerk with her it's fine."
"Is that a warning?" asked the Slytherin frowning.
"Not really. Not coming from me, but you should be glad I'm more acceptive than the others. I don't know you, so I don't assume anything, but the others do."
Adena suddenly spoke after he finished his sentence, "Isaac. I love you but don't be mean to Regulus. He isn't bad..."
"I won't be mean if he isn't mean neither, don't worry."
And she smiled a little at him, her slight blurry gaze because of the alcohol looking at him.
"Can we move? I'd rather sit on a sofa, my back hurts in this position," whined the girl, straightening up a little.
"Okay, come. Bye Greenwood," he said taking a hold of her hand.
One of the blue sofas was empty. Many people preferred dancing.
"Merlin's beard! Jacob and Noah are kissing in the dancing crowd!" exclaimed Adena with wide eyes. The raven-haired male turned towards them, looking rather surprised too.
"Don't expect me to do the same." She gave him a pout and sad eyes, but he just laughed, bringing her to the sofa.
Once sat side by side, the girl said with a proud smirk, "Isn't our common room beautiful?"
"Yeah, but I still prefer Slytherin's."
"It's all dark and scary."
"Like the Slytherins," chuckled the boy.
"No. Not you!" And he sighed with a smile. "Regulus! Look at Jacob. He's so funny! I love him so much," laughed Adena as she watched her friend doing all sorts of clowneries now.
"What? You 'really like me', but you love that guy? And the others?" said Regulus with a frown even though his words were meant to tease her.
She turned her face to him then put her legs on top of his lap, sitting closer to him.
"There are guys I love like Jacob but you're the only one I like, like you. No matter what I say, you should know you're the only one I like that way."
"I'd rather hear you say you love me," he offered her a little pout, playing with words even though he was serious and she laughed, again, placing her palms on his pouting lips to hide them.
"Don't make me say it! I'm not in the best state to speak out my feelings!" she said, removing her hands.
"Your actions tell well enough already..." murmured the boy as his eyes looked at her legs on top of his where he had placed his hands before. He then looked into her eyes, her shining hazel orbs, displaying warmth and affection every time he looked into them. She was so pretty, he realized again. And then his gaze fell upon her pink lips as she murmured, "Regulus, give me a kiss please."
"What? Here? You're joking?"
She gave him a pleading look with a pout as she continued. "Please."
"Don't look at me like that. Damn alcohol does have a strong effect on you," scoffed the Slytherin, but looking at the floor with sudden embarrassment.
"Nobody cares. It's only you and me."
His heart skipped a beat as she whispered that, placing a hand on his cheek. That kind of sentences made him wonder if she was really drunk. He had no idea how, but her voice so soft had enchanted him and he couldn't fight against the attraction. Placing a hand on her neck, Regulus brought her closer, until their lips found each other. And she was right, it was only him and her in that moment. They closed their eyes and forgot everything. Their movements were slow almost sensual, rediscovering each other. Infinite affection was dripping through their kiss. They were telling each other so many unsaid feelings. And once again, it felt liberating for both of them, the effect of a kiss so strong, it ignited a fire in them.
As the two were kissing, they were unaware of several pairs of eyes on them.
"Hey, Candace, isn't that your sister snogging some guy?" asked James.
"My sister what?" yelled the blonde girl with surprise as she turned around.
"Oh fuck," whispered Maylyn.
"Damn Candace, my brother and your sister are snogging?"
"It's that prick? I thought you were supposed to talk things out with her!"
"Told you it was too late. My stupid brother is already head over heels in love with her. And don't act like you didn't notice the change in Adena too."
"I still had hope she wasn't into that prick," she muttered through gritted teeth.
The two teenagers broke apart, sighing contently. Adena brought her other hand up, her fingers softly caressing Regulus' face from his temple to his cheek and then his jaw. She had an adoring look in her eyes and for the first time in his life Regulus felt loved.
"She looks happy though..."
"She's fucking drunk Maylyn."
