chapter fifty two
The next morning, most of the students were packing their stuff to go back home. Everyone was feeling excited regarding the Christmas holidays. But Adena was feeling rather gloomy. At breakfast, she stayed quiet, like for the past days since she was still in conflict with Jacob. Once she finished her meal, she quickly left the Great Hall. She just hoped Regulus would join her soon. She walked outside, observing the snowflakes falling slowly from the cloudy grey sky. Hogwarts' landscape was beautiful no matter the season in her eyes.
"You'll catch a cold," said a familiar voice in her ear, making her jump. Regulus wrapped his arms around her body from behind, caging her in his warm embrace. The boy placed his lips on his girlfriend's cheek before resting his chin on her shoulder.
"You packed already?"
"Yeah. The girls and I woke up early so we could relax before leaving."
"I didn't do it yet."
"We have to be in the train in one hour."
"I know, but I prefer spending this hour with you."
"Numpty go pack your stuff," she whispered, turning around so they would be facing each other.
"I will if you wait for me at the castle's entrance."
"Okay, now go!"
Instead of moving, he gave her a kiss. "I can go now."
When Adena went back her common room, she ignored everybody, retiring in her room for a moment before leaving. She took out her winter clothes which included her cape, scarf, and beanie. The weather was chilly, and she didn't want to get sick. It didn't take too long, and she quickly went out again, passing through the crowd of Ravenclaw students before getting into the hallway. She walked to the entrance and sat down, continuing to watch the snow fall. Regulus joined her later on, dressed the same way as her. The male sat down at her side.
"Aren't you freezing there?"
"Not really, but I think I should learn a warming charm. Are you cold though?"
"Not that much..."
"I can still warm you up if you need," murmured the young girl.
"Oh, well think I'm cold now."
These words made Adena laugh. She glided closer to him, before her arms snaked around his waist, letting her head fall against his chest.
"Your hair is back to normal," said Regulus as he passed his fingers through her curls.
"Yeah, happily it didn't last long."
"I prefer it that way too..."
They stayed like this for a while before students started leaving the castle in order to go to Hogsmeade's train station.
"Adena... we have to leave..." whispered Regulus. The girl tightened her grip around his body.
"I'll be with you during the train ride too."
"Can we sit together after?" said her muffled voice.
"I'll go the same compartment as the boys, is that okay?"
"Yes, as long as you're here."
And she finally lifted her head up, meeting her boyfriend's stormy eyes. She then detached herself from him before getting up. The Slytherin did the same thing as well before talking a hold of her hand. They rode together to Hogsmeade but decided to not get in the train too soon, knowing they would meet James Potter and Lily Evans in the prefect's carriage. As they waited, they enjoyed a few kisses. Barely anyone was waiting outside, they were basically alone.
"I love you, you know?" whispered Regulus, his lips brushing against hers. She blushed at his words before kissing him again, showing her own way of loving since she didn't dare letting it out yet.
"I know you do," she whispered next.
"We're meeting again in fifteen days," said Regulus and she smiled.
"It will go fast I hope."
"Yes, don't worry." He placed his warm hand on her cold cheek before offering her a loving kiss. She felt so happy while responding to his kiss but of course it wouldn't last long. A 'ahem' could be heard not too far. They detached themselves, their eyes reopening to see Jacob in the distance, being dragged in the train by Eugenia.
Adena sighed. "He still wouldn't talk to you?" asked the boy.
"No..."
"He's so stupid."
"A little sometimes."
"Let's go now." She nodded, standing up, their hands still locked. As they were walking in the hallway, the door of a compartment opened up to reveal Jade and the other Ravenclaws behind.
"Adena, can we talk?"
"Okay." She turned around to face Regulus, saying, "Wait for me." And he nodded as she entered the compartment.
"So, Jacob here has something to say," said Eugenia.
Jacob got up before muttering a quick, "I apologize for my stupid behavior."
Adena looked surprised as she asked, "Why did you change your mind?"
"Eh.... You look surprisingly happy with him."
"Thank you for realizing it. Apology accepted." And before she knew it, she was engulfed in a bone-crushing hug by the blond boy, shocking everyone especially the Slytherin outside the compartment. He quickly let go of her and when he looked up, he met the angry glare of Regulus through the glass door.
"And we all apologize," murmured Jade.
"Thanks guys. I have to go now." And she smiled at them before leaving.
Once outside, Regulus took a hold of her hand as she led him through the train.
"I guess you're back on good terms."
"Yeah, I missed him. It'll be back to normal," said the girl happily. And the raven-haired male felt happy about her sudden joy.
Adena glided open the prefect's carriage door.
"Good morning Adena-!" exclaimed Lily Evans before her smile dropped.
"Good morning Lily." She addressed her a polite smile as she talked even though she obviously remarked the drop of mood. As she passed by James, she only gave him a scornful glare. The girl dragged her boyfriend behind her, knowing not a word would be exchanged with the Head Girl and Head Boy. The atmosphere in the compartment was tense but she didn't care. She sat in front of Noah, Regulus next to her.
"Oh, Adena! You talked to Jacob?"
"Yes."
"And so?"
"It went fine," she answered smiling at him.
"Yes! I'm so sorry for what happened. And sorry Black."
Regulus only nodded at him before turning towards the brunette. "What made him change his mind?"
"Apparently he noticed you make me happy," murmured shyly the girl.
"Really? He's not that stupid after all," smiled Regulus.
Ivanna Flint joined in late as the meeting had already stared. She excused herself to Lily who looked mad for being interrupted and then continued talking.
"We still have to wait three hours."
"Just take a nap it'll go faster," said the brunette as she placed her head onto her boyfriend's shoulder.
"Oh, you two are so cute," teased the blond girl.
"No," they both said at the same time.
Adena and Regulus started chatting quietly together, including Noah in their conversation from time to time but not Ivanna since she had fallen asleep.
She quite enjoyed the ride but as seconds passed, she felt more anxious. She could hide it rather well, however. She just got closer to Regulus, loving that he instantly wrapped his arm around her. The brunette loved feeling secured in his embrace, just as much as she loved his comforting touches in her hair. It was the most subtle and discreet displays of affection they would dare doing in public. Sometimes, she could feel someone stare at her and when she would look up, she would notice either James or Lily looking in their direction. It was annoying but it couldn't make things worse than they were already with her sister. When Regulus and Ivanna had to leave, she gave him a sad smile.
"Meet me in my compartment when you're done, it'll be in the middle of the train."
"Okay..."
He gave her a loving look before standing up and leaving.
"You're not coming with us?" asked Noah now that they were alone.
"No. I was still on bad terms with Jacob when I asked Regulus if I could join him and anyway I'd like to enjoy the remaining hours we have together, even though we'll be surrounded by a bunch of Slytherin males."
"Ugh, sounds scary."
"Yeah I know. But as long as I'm with him," she murmured, looking at the empty packages of chocolate frog.
"Wow, you really do like him. I'd never thought I would witness that."
The girl's cheeks turned pink. "Of course, I do..."
He laughed and they continued talking until it was their time.
They got out and started walking, checking every compartment in case there was a problem.
"Do you wanna meet with the others during the holidays? Eugenia's doing something."
"They didn't tell me anything."
"Don't be stubborn and come. Well let's ask her now." He noticed they were arriving at their compartment, so he opened the door.
"Eugenia! Tell Adena about your pajamas party."
The red haired girl turned excitedly towards her, exclaiming, "For the day before coming back, I invite you all do to some shopping and then we'll have a pajamas party! Please tell me you can!"
"I guess I can." And Eugenia cheered with enthusiasm.
Noah and Adena returned to their duty, chatting a little as they walked and when they have been doing it for around an hour, they parted ways. Adena looked for Regulus' compartment and when she found it, she timidly opened the door. The five Slytherin boys presented there turned their heads towards the newcomer.
"Hi," she murmured before sitting close next to Regulus.
"What is she doing here?" asked Barty Crouch confused.
"Black, isn't she the girl you snogged?" asked Austin Wilkes.
Adena blushed at his words.
"She's my girlfriend," replied Regulus, glaring a little at him.
"Oh, too bad, I guess I won't have a chance with her," let out ironically the boy before chuckling in a low voice.
The girl must admit she felt a little uncomfortable. This place was full of boys she didn't know so it felt weird. During the ride they talked. Regulus was the quietest of them all. Even quieter than Rabastan Lestrange. Adena obviously didn't talk at all. She knew they all forgot about her but at least she was with her boyfriend and it's the only thing that mattered at the moment.
"Black, are you attending the next meeting?" asked Crouch sitting opposite him.
The raven-haired male looked up at him. "Of course."
Adena, feeling clueless tugged lightly on his sleeve, muttering, "What's that meeting?"
"You didn't tell her?" cackled Wilkes. And they both looked up at him, before looking back at each other.
"You remember about my projects?"
"Joining the Dark Lord?" And Regulus nodded before continuing.
"Well I'm attending his meetings with the boys here."
"Okay, I see."
"She has a better reaction than I thought. Since I don't think she supports us I guess she's really into you," concluded Wilkes, laughing again.
