chapter fifty seven
By the end of January, Ravenclaw and Slytherin had a match of Quidditch. Adena's heart was torn in two. One side wanted to cheer for her house and her friend especially since she wasn't that much into the sport and the other side wanted to cheer for her boyfriend. She had decided to walk with him to the Quidditch pitch, which hadn't pleased Jacob who had muttered, "Stop betraying your house and fraternizing the enemy." And she only rolled her eyes before quickly joining Regulus waiting by the door.
"Good morning Regulus."
"Good morning Adena."
"Are you nervous?" she asked as they walked together in the snow.
"Not really. Last time I've been nervous was for my first match in third year."
"Are you confident then?" she then asked curious.
"Neither. I'm just neutral, I'm never too confident but I can't say I'm stressed."
She nodded and they quickly arrived at the changing room. Before entering he turned to her, nonchalantly asking, "Good luck kiss?"
She grinned widely before bringing his face to hers, his cheeks feeling cold under her palms. The brunette kissed him sweetly, like she knew so well how to do it. Over the past four months she had built up the confidence to kiss him by herself, as she liked, desiring to show her love. And just like many things including Regulus, it had become a natural thing.
After a few seconds, a voice from behind yelled, "Black! Stop snogging with your girl, we're waiting for you to start the meeting!" It was Austin Wilkes which was also a chaser and the captain of the Slytherins. Upon hearing the voice, the two teenagers detached themselves from each other, feeling rather annoyed.
"I gotta go."
"Good luck, I'll be watching you," she said as they parted ways. She made her way to Ravenclaw bleachers. A few people were already there but it was mostly empty.
Adena was soon joined by the others. Her sister and friends also came to support the Ravenclaws.
"Don't you have homework to do? I thought seventh-years were pretty busy," asked the brunette to her sister.
"I don't know what you're talking about..." answered the blonde.
"Quidditch day is vacation day," said Maylyn with a wide smile.
"Gryffindor isn't even playing."
"I wouldn't be fun if it was only for the matches of our team."
"Hush, they are coming!" said Jade by their side. Adena went to the barrier, her eyes stuck on the Slytherin seeker at the back of the team. She couldn't wait to see him fly again. As he walked, he looked up at her and she sent him a bright confident smile. She fully trusted his capacities.
The game started under the cheers of the students. Excitement was at its high. And people wouldn't stop screaming as the match was full of actions. Jacob scored three times in a row. He was really one of the best players of the school. Even Adena was fascinated by all his twirls and his speed. She now knew more about this sport and she could see why Jacob was considered one of the best. After a while, Slytherin started scoring again which enforced the determination of the Ravenclaws. None of the teams was weak, both were strong and Adena started thinking that the Ravenclaws may be stronger. For once she felt proud of her house. From the other side of the bleachers, she suddenly heard shouts from the Slytherins. They were all pointing to the sky. Everyone looked up to see Regulus chasing after the golden snitch. Seeing that, the Ravenclaw seeker, a short fourth-year Adena didn't know the name of, flew in his direction. But as she was reaching his side, Regulus caught the snitch.
The Slytherins erupted in loud cheers. Adena wanted to follow the lead but she couldn't help looking at the disappointed faces of her friends. The Ravenclaws may have been better players, but Regulus was the best seeker. The feeling of disappointment spread through her, conflicting with the pride she felt for her boyfriend. The students started leaving, feeling completely depleted about Slytherin's victory, while the winners were screaming in joy and pride. Adena followed her friends through the crowd but left them when arriving down. She went to meet with Regulus. Perhaps he was celebrating the victory with his housemates and it increased the feeling of disappointment in her. She was surprised when she saw him outside the changing room while the Slytherin team was still cheering outside.
"What are you doing here?" asked the girl, not expecting to see him there.
"Waiting for you of course."
"But... the team's celebrating..."
"Maybe I didn't tell you this but Quidditch isn't that important for me. I like it but that's all. Celebrating for five minutes is enough and they planned a party for tonight anyway."
"Oh, I see. You did really great, I'm proud of you. I think you're a good player."
Regulus was surprised to hear that. He placed his arm around her shoulders as they both walked back to the castle.
"Really? Thanks."
"Don't you want to continue after Hogwarts?"
The boy, surprised again by her words chuckled a little.
"You think I should? Slughorn thinks so too. He keeps asking me."
"Really? And what do you answer?"
"That I'll think about it, but you know what I want to do."
Without realizing she sighed a little at his words.
"What? Is something wrong?" he said worried.
"Not really it's just that it worries me. Becoming a Death Eater and all, I'm just scared for your safety."
Adena wasn't judging him for his choices at all, no, she only worried for his safety.
"Don't worry, if I'm loyal everything will be fine. My cousins and their husbands are loyal and are some of the Dark Lord's favourites. It'll be the same for me."
"I see... as long as you're safe, it's all that matters to me," she whispered, side-hugging him as they arrived at the castle.
"Thanks for caring," he whispered back, bending forward to kiss her temple. They walked up until reaching the Great Hall. "You're coming to the party tonight?"
"Really? Okay then."
"Tell me if you'd rather do your homework..." he said teasingly.
"Stop! I'm just a good student."
"Okay okay," he said and planted a kiss on her lips after that, to which she responded softly.
"See you tonight then."
"I come by at 11?"
"Yeah, let's meet in the dungeons at 11," he said then leaved her to enter the hall, and she followed behind, directing herself to the Ravenclaw table.
She sat in silence. Everyone was quiet, the atmosphere felt tense. Some of her housemates gave the girl some hateful glares as they knew she was dating Regulus and she had entered the room with him. Adena was confused. Why so much hatred for a stupid sport. She really had a hard time understanding others sometimes. In a way, she was glad her boyfriend wasn't too seriously into Quidditch. It should stay as a fun hobby so people wouldn't be so hurt and create such a stupid rivalry. Sadly, Adena's friends were very much hurt by the defeat but they weren't giving her glares at least.
After studying in the library for the whole afternoon Adena went to dinner only to notice the tension was still present. Jacob was quiet as well, he couldn't stop talking about how he wanted to 'kick those jerks' arses', every time he walked past a Slytherin in the corridors. The atmosphere in the common room wasn't much better so the girls stayed up in their bedroom for the evening.
When Adena had to leave to meet with Regulus, the girls asked some questions.
"Are you sneaking out past curfew?"
"I am a prefect Eugenia."
"Is that why you didn't put on your pajamas yet..." asked suspiciously Jade.
"I can change anytime."
"But you won't meet your boyfriend wearing pajamas..." murmured Millie with a smile.
"No, I'd preferred not to," sighed the brunette, smiling nonetheless.
