subject 003.
xavier matthew mckalister
age: 16
xavier wasn't a 'bad kid', he was just a product of his environment.
and living in the suburbs of oklahoma was a good until his mom left xavier and his older brother samuel, in the care of their dad.
the feeling of abandonment was evident for twelve year old xavier, and living with an emotionally and physically abusive drunk of a father only made it worse.
as soon as samuel turned eighteen, he packed up and left xavier to fend for himself. from that moment on xavier was used to do many things he didn't feel comfortable with, like stealing and other things his father forced him to with his abilities. if the boy didn't comply he was meant to do, brute forced was always used. harsher than anything his brother received.
one night xavier couldn't take it anymore. he couldn't sleep from the constant partying and moaning from the parties his dad threw every night.
he came downstairs and was used to the beatings but what happened next was completely different and xavier had no idea what to do.
"get fuck out my house! i can't stand you anymore! it's your fault she left! it's all your fault!" his father shouted, shoving the boy afterwards.
so he walked as far as he could in the cold night until he saw the nearest phone booth.
"hello?"
"s-sam, i need you come and get me." xavier said through the pay phone.
"who is this? xav?" a girl asked, which he recognized the voice of his brother's best friend and girlfriend, isabella.
"i-izzy? give the p-phone to s-sam, p-please." xavier said on the verge of tears.
"hey bud are you okay-"
"just come and get me, it's cold." xavier stuttered.
"your outside, xav it's freezing. tell me where you are?"
"s-south ave. how f-far are y-you away?"
"just tell me what happened." samuel asked.
"i-i c-can't." xavier cried, which automatically told samuel something was terribly wrong.
after that night samuel took xavier in, they never talked about that night, as much as isabella told them to. samuel always replied 'with time it'll heal.' but the untreated trauma formed into rebellion and defiance. it started with hanging with the wrong crowd, skipping class, stealing, doing graffiti, breaking curfew, and anything that would worry any guardian.
samuel was some relieved when an officer showed up at his doorstep with his younger brother. xavier didn't to look at his brother, already knowing his usual disappointed expression.
"samuel mckalister?" the officer said.
"yes, thank you sir for returning my brother. i apologize for any trouble he caused." samuel said as the officer nodded.
"it's fine. be good to your dad kid, he cares a lot for you." he says, making both brothers shudder. xavier walks in as isabella pulls him for a hug.
"xav, are you okay?" she asks as xavier nods.
"xavier you gotten escorted by the police, again! this is the third time this week!" samuel said, after closing the door. "they can take you away if they deem me unfit to take care of you!"
"i know, i'm sorry." the now sixteen year old xavier said.
"well your always 'sorry'. when will you start to grow up? be a man!" samuel shouted. he wasn't mad, well he was frustrated with xavier but more so with his actions than anything else. samuel. didn't understand why his brother was being so difficult.
"i had to grow up when you left me in that hell hole with him!" xavier yelled as samuel scoffed.
"both of you stop it!" isabella said getting in between the two brothers.
"what did he do that was so horrible to you? last i checked i was the one taking the beatings for you!" samuel said, his words cutting through xavier like knives.
"you know what sam...fuck off! don't talk to me. ever again for all i care!" xavier shouts and with that xavier walked out of the apartment.
"xav wait!"isabella called after him.
"don't even bother, he doesn't have to come back for all i care." samuel says as a look. of anger flashes over his girlfriend.
"what the actual fuck sam?"
"don't be like that! xavier has been ungrateful to us both!" samuel mutters, further angering isabella.
"that's your little brother, not some criminal! you have no idea what happened to xavier when you left!"
"so your siding with xavier now?
"no i'm not but sam you need to find him and apologize." isabella sighs. "i know you both have had it hard in life but xavier is still hurting. that's why he's doing all these things, he needs you more than ever now."
"go fucking find him or i'm kicking your ass out." isabella says as samuel nods, leaving to his car.
samuel felt like an idiot, he should've listened to isabella when she said they needed to talk. maybe he. wouldn't have been in this position if he knew how xavier felt. that's what samuel was determined to do when he would find his bother.
meanwhile xavier was making his way across town, it was getting dark and he surely didn't wanna see samuel again. he didn't wanna further bother anyone but he needed somewhere to stay for the night.
'it's my fault i drive everyone away.' xavier thought to himself. he had so many feelings of rage and sadness that he couldn't filter out.
"fuck!" he screamed as the black crows flew away.
everyone around him made him feel as if he was destructive so he acted that way. that's why he acted out, he deciding to give everyone what they wanted.
the boy spent the night a youth center he's stayed at when he was younger. back when sam left him to fend for himself all those years ago. he slept there turning his phone off, blacking out after his head hit the uneven pillow. that morning xavier woke up, quickly leaving and meeting up with his best friend whom he told everything to.
"yo xav! we're gonna go around south ave and 'paint', you coming?" his friend, brian said.
"why not?" xavier said, as the boys walked to their destination.
they started to spray paint until out of the corner of their eyes blue and red lights flashed.
"damnit," brian crused running off.
xavier ran but didn't make it far, until he was caught, pinned down and somehow brought to the facility.
today is the day he'll have his first session with dr. sarah miller.
'at least i'll have someone to talk to.' xavier thought to himself as he walked behind the guards into a room with a huge glass window.
covered with plants, test tubes, books, and the most comfortable couch you could imagine.
"hello xavier," the woman greeted. "how are you this morning?" she asked politely.
"as good as anyone being held against their will in solidarity." he faked smiled.
"why am i here?" xavier asked, getting straight to the point.
the brunette woman took her seat in front of his and grabbed a pen from the coffee table in the middle of them. she scribbled something before looking at her phone and then back at xavier.
"xavier you're a very special person, given extraordinary gifts by the universe. in your case invisibility and time manipulation."
"how do you know that?" he asked in disbelief, only he knew what happened that very night.
"when your special xavier, your gifts don't go unnoticed." she said, continuing on to other questions.
"let's see what you can do, huh?" she smiled, xavier looked down at his cuffs.
"take them off." she ordered one of the guards and he did so.
"you think you can control them or-" she began looking up from her notebook as she's sees (or lacks to see) that the teenaged boy in front of her was gone.
"impressive?" he asks dryly, picking up a pen from her desk, spinning it in between his fingers.
"very," she says, scribbling away. "can you turn other things invisible?" she asked.
"not that i know of." he answers, revealing himself once again.
"and what about your time manipulation? can you control that?"
"that happened once and i don't even know if i even did that." he spoke coldly.
she scribbled in her notebook once again. he hated it, he wanted to know what she was thinking about him. maybe she saw him as destructive to.
"i need a blood sample, it'll be quicker to do it now than later."
"whatever." xavier said looking away.
"i know this isn't the most ideal of situations but i promise you, this is the best option for you right now." she smiled, before looking back at her notebook.
"you like spray painting right?" she asked.
"i guess." xavier shrugged.
"i'll see about getting you a big enough canvas to work with, how's that sound?" she smiled as finished the blood work.
"fine, i guess." he mumbled looking back at sarah.
"good, i'll see you again on thursday morning." she spoke as the guards placed the teen in the strange cuffs again escorting him to his cell.
